The Beretta was a sad namesake for the excellent firearms manufacturer. How about its four-door cousin the Corsica? It truly was a coarse car!

Certainly doesn't make me think of a holiday on a nice Mediterranean island...more like a weekend stuck in Hoboken :shades:

Indeed, Fabbrica d'Armi Pietro Beretta sued them, afraid the association with a low quality product would hurt their image. GM paid up and settled.

Looks like the Sunset Blvd. exit, circa '62 or '63.

Oh, the cars? I see a VW Beetle and an MGA, plus a Cadillac.
  • hudsonthedoghudsonthedog Member Posts: 552
The Beretta and Corsica (and Pontiac Tempest) weren't X-cars. The X-body ended with the 1985 Chevrolet Citation. The Beretta/Corsica were L-body cars which were a combination of N-body (Grand Am/Skylark/Calais) and J-body (Cavalier/Sunbird).

I remember a Car and Driver article mocking the whole conflict--in the form of a "comparison test" between the two Berettas.

I'll bet on the gun maker, unless he's a bad shot and the car can run him over. :P
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Even then the car would probably puncture a tire and crash. Both people would be dead, but the gun would be fine and the car would be totalled.

    Gun still wins. ;)
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Well it could JAM....or double-fire and shoot Mr. Beretta in the foot, thereby disabling him and putting him at the mercy of the car.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
The gun won't jam, it's a quality piece. That's why Chevy paid a settlement. ;)
  • fezofezo Member Posts: 10,386
We are back to the Corsica/Beretta.....

I had a Corsica rental in Florida one year. The one positive I can say is you could certainly get a speeding ticket in one. I did.

    Born to be a rental.

    Ferrari 599 GTO
and...ummm... gee... GT2RS??? something like that.

    '11 GMC Sierra 1500; '98 Alfa 156 2.0TS; '08 Maser QP; '67 Coronet R/T; '13 Fiat 500c; '20 S90 T6; '22 MB Sprinter 2500 4x4 diesel; '97 Suzuki R Wagon; '96 Opel Astra; '11 Mini Cooper S

You're right on both counts. Yeah the Porsche nomenclature for their track-day specials is pretty confusing but the latest is indeed a 911 GT2RS,.

I don't think I'd kick either one out of my garage.

    Cayman R.

I would have given it a different name. Sounds like a hopped up Civic, not Porsche...
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
One wonders why they didn't call it the Cayman RS (RennSport) unless they have an even hotter version in the works.

    Here's another cool Porsche>

I would have preferred Club Sport. Simple and appeals to the type of buyer who may actually pay more for pull straps for door handles.

The Cayman R is basically a Boxster Spyder with a roof and probably handles even better given that cars with metal roofs are generally stiffer and lighter than their topless variants.

I suspect a Lotus Elise/Exige would give a good account of itself against the 987 twins.

Anyone wanna name the Irish Green car w the Ducktail?

Probably a 1973 Porsche RS Carrera RS.

Yup, those are usually seen in white, orange or some bright 70s neon shade with Carrera in large script on the side.. The car shown was originally yellow but was repainted in Irish green--- very classy IMO.

I was going to say it looks like a Dodge Journey, but that front is different and it looks bigger. New Durango?

Two for two Brian. New Durango and new Murano convertible.

Lots of photos in the galleries over on Inside Line.

Weird. If you photoshop out the man sitting inside, I would think its kinda cool because I wouldn't realize its size. Scale that thing down to 2/3, start pricing at around $25k, and they might have a winner.

I don't mind it near as much as the posters at the story do. And I like the idea of the extra ground clearance. I could see hitting the forest service roads with the camping gear - be great for birding and wildlife spotting. Have to get inflatable kayaks I suppose.

And you just about could convert the interior to a hot tub when you get to camp. :P

But the pricing would scare me off.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
The only camping that thing is going to do is mall-camping I'm a-feared.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,528
Another lame poser wannabe for suburban dorks to cruise in between the office tower parking garage, IKEA, and their faceless tract house development. Just what the market needs.

Reminds me of a woman I work with who has a 2WD Xterra. I tease her about its lack of purpose all the time. But, she is kind of short, and likes to sit high. That says it all.
  • imidazol97imidazol97 Member Posts: 27,700
    >she is kind of short, and likes to sit high.

That was exactly what a friend of ours said about her Xterra. She liked the height of the seating position.

BTW, she traded it for a Kia Forte. She commented that it rights rough.

Wow! I love your descriptions! That's the way I feel about such vehicles, their drivers, and the environments in which they're found! You nailed it to a "T!"
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
I like the seating position in our minivan better than our Outback. A convertible that I could ease in to instead of climbing down into, like a Miata, wouldn't be too bad either. I do have a couple of decades on you. :P

    Looks like a Sterling 825 SL.....late '80's.

Known for taking perfectly good car components (Honda) and turning them into a unreliable disaster.
The assembly quality was atrocious, and they were plagued with typical British electrical issues.
It also had severe rust problems.

    start pricing at around $25k

    A tad more than that.

Keep in mind the regular Murano starts in the mid $28s, and an LE is $37k.

Sit down: they priced the convertible (soft-top) at an ambitious $46,390!
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,769
I'm sure. But my pricing statement was in regards to a smaller car version of that design.

Well, this is very unfamiliar stuff, but of the 8 vehicles there are 2 Volkswagens:
a VW Microbus in front of the bus and a VW Beetle Convertible last in line next
    to the bus.
