You got it! The Aston-Martin Lagonda proves the adage "There's nothing as old as yesterday's high tech." The first series had an LED dash then a CRT dash that was even more unreliable. Both are devilish to repair regardless of cost.

I think A-M was planning to bring back the Lagonda as some sort of SUV/cross-over thingie. I'm not sure if it even made it to market. I guess this is what Mrs. Bond will be driving when 007 is suckered into marriage, forced to leave MI5, and become a chartered accountant.

    1959 Skylark Buick Convertible

    Typo? That's definitely a '54.

My bad on the Corvette, I didn't notice that it had the rounded tail, could be anything from '58 to '60 (four headlights but not a ducktail.)

You're right on the typo or it was a Freudian slip.

The Corvette is a 59 according to the shop facebook page. I sure can't tell the many years apart.

Must be a Volvo from the emblem, not sure of the model or year....

Edit: It's a Volvo TP21 (Sugga) 4x4 Command Car from the late 50's

    A russian sports car? :P
  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
    Correct - in this case, it's a 1957 model.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
I sure can't tell the many years apart.

I was told be the owner of a '60 that you can only tell a '59 from a '60 if you know the colors available in each year, otherwise they're identical. Anyone know otherwise?

'58s are distinguished by chrome stripes on the trunk>

Well, if you are going to go through that to find what year it is, the easiest way to tell the difference would be to look at the vin.

The 59 seats had pleats going side to side.
The 60 seats had pleats going front to rear.

  • lemkolemko Member Posts: 15,261
The bluc car behind the girl is a 1950 Dodge. The car behind the Dodge appears to be a 1953 Chevrolet. The red and white car in the center is a 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air. Behind the '56 Chevy is a '57 Chevy. The black car way behind the '57 Chevy appears to be a 1957 Buick. Going the opposite direction is a 1955 Chevrolet. The cars parked across the street are a 1950 Ford woody, 1958 Ford, 1950 Pontiac, and what night be a 1956 Chevy wagon. The rest are too blurry for me to identify,
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Pretty good job Lemko as usual. I think the car parked to the left of the Chevy wagon is a '57 Buick and the tall dark car ahead of the '55 Chevy is most likely an early 50s Mopar.

Is that car an Oldsmobile? 1953?

The parking light looks oval and I think, think, I see a globe as the hood emblem.

I went back and looked and I think you're right. I guess I was a bit hasty. I saw what first looked like a round nacelle in the grill and immediately thought "1953 Chevy."
  • uplanderguyuplanderguy Member Posts: 16,936
By the swoopy cut of the tailgate/rear window, I think that could be a '56 Chevy Nomad parked across the street.

I know I'm out-of-the-mainstream, but I like a '56 Chevy better than a '57 (and I like a '55 better than either). I also like '58 Fords and I've only ever met one person that would admit to that! The Ford I don't care for at all is the '59. To me, too blunt in the front and the taillights look like pie pans.

I would be happier if the resolution were one step better on the picture.

Has anyone identified the third car going away from the camera, red bottom with what looks like a white convertible top with a small rear window?

At first I thought it was a Borgward P100, but I think it's too narrow. Maybe a late-series Hansa?

Toyota Crown, aka The Toyopet (RSD Series), probably a 1955-59.

And the answer is......1950 Oldsmobile Torpedo.

    image

No, I've never heard of an Olds Torpedo either but that's what this seller in Mexico calls it. He also calls it a Hardtop which it clearly is not.

I don't find Torpedo for 1950 Oldsmobile in google.

Does anyone have any links for this model?

Isn't 'torpedo' a body style? May just be the seller's name for the body style, not a real Oldsmobile model name.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Sure, the name "torpedo" was used for rounded streamiled bodies in the 30s and 40s, perhaps it's use has continued on in Mexico.

    Yep, Toyopet Crown.

"Toyota today celebrated the grand reopening of the Toyota USA Automobile Museum, which showcases more than 100 Toyota, Lexus and Scion cars and trucks dating back to the 1958 Toyota Toyopet Crown, the first Toyota sold in the U.S."

Looks like I had a bad link to the story. Trying again:

    Eww--an Ami 6?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Yup, just as it says on the [German?] license plate, it's a Citroen Ami 6.

The blue break (wagon) with the Cali plate is actually an Ami 8, the sedan versions of the 8 did not have the wacky reverse cut rear glass. The Ami 6 was informally known as the 3CV since it was the successor to the fabled 2CV and did in fact carry a tax rating of three HP.

Oddly the Amis went out of production a few years before the 2CV they were supposed to succeed. It's replacement was the Dyane which more closely resembled a Deux Chaveaux.

The Citroen tradition of outre rear glass treatments lives on to the present day..
