"Sorry, Andy, but I'll have to disagree. The wheel covers and the brightwork behind the rear tires indicate a Polara. "

Front grille bordered by chrome, ends of front bumpers rising vertically, and white wall tires indicate 47-48.

If you're right some guy in Hemmings doesn't know what year car he is asking $118,500 for! HMN "1946 Mercury Woodie Wagon".

At least we're in agreement on something! It's a '66.

I pulled out a couple of old car spotter books I had tucked away and they did show the Polara has the brightwork behind the wheels and the Matador does not. 1960 seems like a weird year at Mopar. Chrysler and DeSoto looked decent, but Dodge and Plymouth were a little rude, if not plain old extreme.

    "Thar's not what Motorbase sez."

Sorry Andy, but 'Motorbase' is incorrect. Motorbase doesn't even list the Polara for 1960, only 'Polara500 '62-'64'. The pic is definitely a '60 Polara, not a Matador.

Looks like a Ford LTD ll, not sure of the year, probably late 70's.

My cousin sent me a pic and for the life of me cannot figure out what kind of car it is.

Those LTD IIs have a funny memory for me. I remember riding my BMX bike in the ice or snow when I was 7 or so, so maybe around 1984. One of those was parked on the street, I was going too fast, I wiped out, my bike slid under the car from the back, and I slammed into the rear wheel. I don't know if there was any damage - I got out of there pretty quickly. Fun times. Also, I remember those as the police cars in the first Rambo movie.

Correct! It's an LTD II. This one's a debut 1977 model.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,525
40s GM product of some kind, likely a Chevy due to the lack of bric-a-brac. I don't know more than that without looking through google.
  • uplanderguyuplanderguy Member Posts: 16,936
That '77 LTD looks so lonnnnggg to me, in comparison with the GM midsize cars of '73-77. I mean, the Monte Carlo and ilk had long hoods, but the four-doors didn't, it seems. I do remember the Ford had a short, stubby rear deck area. My friend's Dad, a Chevy and Buick Service Manager at the time, referred to those cars as "stubbies".

In reality, the LTD II was just a hasty reskin of the Torino. I can barely remember the ad jingle "Hey, is that you in an LTD II? You'll never know 'til you drive!" or something like that. I was only 12 when it came out.

a car chase pretending to be a movie.

Obviously the Charger ('69?) and the Dash is from the '67 Mustang 390.

'65 Galaxie coming up the hill? And a beetle infront of a 356 Porsche on the RH side parked.

and a large assortment of mid-60s american cars!

And look, the Charger is shedding hub caps which it does about 8 times over the course of the chase!

..and a large assortment of mid-60s american cars!

The taxi looks like it's a '67 Ford. Next to the black '65 Ford appears to be a '65 Plymouth and a grey mid 60s Caddy appears to be crossing the intersection.

Parked just behind the cab looks like a '65-'66 Plymouth or Chrysler. If you get the big picture you see a '66 Impala coupe just beyond the VW. That's about all I can make out.

Uh boy here we go again.

Porsche says the red cabrio is a 1952 356
which is the oldest Porsche in the US to be brought into this country via the official Porsche-authorized distribution channel, it once belonged to Max Hoffman the legendary importer who had a hand in the creation of the 356 speedster the 300SL and the BMW 507.

Porsche acknowledges an even older car in America, a 1950 356 Cabriolet originally sold in Austria but later sent to the US.

well, yer pic does appear to be of a split windshield model, which, according to wiki, ended in '52.

Didn't realize we were looking for actual individual cars here. :P

    It looks French.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
The wheel is from a Renault 16 but it's probablt the same one that goes on the Renault 5. Who else but the French?

I'll guess (not sure) Renault R8 for the white car, middle one, all the way on the left. We'll save the other white car for you-know-who and the red one is too easy for me.
  • stephen987stephen987 Member Posts: 1,994
The dark gray car to the right of the Red Obvious is a Fiat 600.

Yup, the clip is from The Saint TV Series.

There's another Alfa sorta visible in it, anybody see it?

Of the three blurry cars at the left edge of the shot, the middle one looks like it might be a white Giulia Ti sedan.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
I'm pretty sure it is a Giulia TI, the tailights and the indentation on the trunk lid match.

The Renault should be flattered. . . and the Alfa insulted.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
That blurry white car pulling away, to the right of the white Alfa, is a Ford Cortina.
  • stephen987stephen987 Member Posts: 1,994
Can anyone get a fix on the tall burgundy car just to the right of the white Beetle?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Not much chance of that, it's just a blur.
