I am posting text that I got from a post a while ago, instructing how to change the width of pictures so that they don't clobber the right margin of the messages. Hopefully this will allow people to post pictures and still be allow everyone to read the messages that come after

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------

Do right click on the picture and note the pixels in width and height.

    The maximum width is 650.

Post the link to picture. Select the whole thing and click IMG.

At the end will be a " and a > sign.
Between them insert a space and then the word width="650" height="XXX"

To determine XXX divide 650 by the width of your picture. That gives a ratio: e.g., .2359. Then multiply that ratio times the height of your picture. That is the XXX that gets inserted.

Be sure to use the quote signs around the numbers.

Your picture of the motor home is 1024 x 768

    So 650/1024 = .634765625
    Multiply that times 768 = 487

Thus you would put in width="650" height="487"

Take a bow williams2, not many would know one.

BTW 686s were made from 1936-52 (except 1940-46) and the last looked much like the first. They also came in cabriolet form.

Mr. Hotchkiss was an American who moved to France to produce weapons. His cannons were used to blow American Indians to smithereens as well as Germans. The company started making cars in 1903. Venerable old company.

  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Actually I was hoping someone would say it was a Mk.II ;)

Perhaps, Shifty, you could tell us what the differences pother than styling were between the Mk.II/4.2 and the S-Type.

Basically the cars are quite different although to the casual observer they might seem similar.

The S Type is really the sawn-off front of a MkII, made uglier, welded to the back half of a Mark X, also made uglier, resulting in a car that might be compared to taking a dog with a handsome face and short legs, and mating it to an ugly dog with long legs, in the hope of a beautiful result, only to end up with an ugly dog with short legs.

With 6 inches more overhang, and a body that looks like the front end and the back end were designed in separate countries by people who never communicated, the result is politely referred to by Juagar purists as "something gone horribly wrong".

Take the front of a 1962 Lincoln Continental, weld it to the back end of a '62 Imperial, and add a '62 Ford grille, and see how you like it :lemon:

Do you think? With those black-rubber-baby-buggy-bumpers and the back-to-back rear vent windows? That color is exactly like my friend's parents' former '78 Cutlass Salon Brougham, though. Like 'em or not, those GM cars had really nice interiors and were smooth and quiet, being body-on-frame.

    1979 Toyota Corona liftback.

Before replacing the aerobacks with notchbacks in 1980, Olds even made a 442 version of the 2 door aeroback.

Can you name this GM aeroback sedan from 1979 similar in color and purpose to the Corona?

The photo of the '79 Century Custom sedan drives home a point that always drives me absolutely nuts. That is, when a car is painted, or has other bodywork done, the way so many careless body shops just slap on the nameplate wherever they feel like it. On that Century, the rear quarter nameplate is SEVERAL inches above where it's supposed to be. Isn't the idea of good bodywork, so that you can't tell?!! I see this type of thing daily, on cars with otherwise good paint and nice looks. And that's something that can't be easily corrected, either.

This is an Allard Clipper - they only built about a dozen of these during the Suez fuel crisis in the late 50's (we had petrol rationing in UK for 1956/7) which was a bit of a departure from the usual Allards which were genrally fitted with larger engines ie Ford Zodiac, or earlier ones even had V8s...

Ah, the awesome Allard J2X, or more likely, judging by the chromed wires and fender-mounted turn signals, a modern recreation thereof.

it's a re-creation of the original, apparently supervised by Allard family members and recognized by the Allard registry. Uses GM power and a Tremec 5-speed.

But you know, it's not real anyway.

Interesting but slightly nasty little comment on their website:

"What happened to the Cadillac engine? In this case, we have erred on the side of reliability and performance and have done what the Cadillac racing teams have done… replace their Cadillac engines with a Corvette engine."

Hmmm! The first car on the left might be a 1950 Pontiac Chieftain two-door sedan, the second is a 1962 Buick, the third car is a 1962 Rambler Classic, the fourth car is a 1963 Buick Special, and the fifth car is a 1962 Pontiac, the back of the red car far to the right is a VW. The white car in the background blocked by pedestrians might be a 1955 DeSoto. The car between the Rambler and Buick might be an MG TF. I can't see enough of the red car behind the Special and '62 Pontiac to ID it. I think I can just about make out enough of a black 1961-62 Cadillac near the tree in the back on the left.

Great job Lemko. A Michigan school would be the only campus in America that had 90% domestic iron in the mid 60s. Where I went to school at least a third were VWs, British imports or oddballs like DKWs and Lancia Appias.

Because it's a a Mexican market Barracuda sold there as a 1969 Dodge Barracuda. Apparently not many cars were sold there as Plymouths but confusingly enough there were some Plymouth Barracudas sold there as well.. Ay yi yi! :confuse:

Coming at us: red '62 Ford Fairlane, blue '61 Chevy Impala,
red '64 Dodge taxi, maybe a white '62 Buick, blue '63 Impala just turning.

Across the street: '63 Mercury driving, unidentifiable wagon,
'64 Oldsmobile, maybe a '63 Olds just in front of the trolley.
Not a non-US made vehicle in sight!
  • uplanderguyuplanderguy Member Posts: 16,932
Good eye..but that's a '64 Mercury, not a '63. The front fender/wheel opening is different from '63 to '64. I believe the wagon on the other side of the street is a '62 Impala wagon, and I'm thinking what you think is a '64 Olds might be a '66 Buick LeSabre, with a newspaper box from across the street obscuring some of the rear-end panel detailing.

There was a slight difference but on my monitor the wheel well is not discernable.

The wagon ahead of the Merc looks like a Volvo to me. It's too tall and short to be US made. Sorry Grafer. ;)
