AMC Eagle Kammback, produced in '81 and '82.

Weird bit of history but apparently the Gremlin ended in 1978 and was given a revised nose and liftback design as the new for 1979 Spirit. The 1981 AMC Eagle SX/4 was the all wheel drive version of the Spirit liftback. At the same time the old style Gremlin body was brought back in 1981 as the all wheel drive Eagle Kammback.

I remember seeing the Eagle SX/4 liftback during that time but it sold in much bigger numbers than the Eagle Kammback - which I'd never seen until finding a pic on a message board.

Edited to add: just found a link to a very good article about the Gremlin/Kammback here.

While all that was going on with the Eagle line, AMC partnered with Renault. No wonder buyers didn't shop or even notice the Eagle Kammback back then! Parked next to a Fuego on the dealer lot, who would have noticed? Or cared?:P

We looked at these back in 1990 (ended up buying a Nissan PU instead).

at the time, could get a RWD 4 cyl. with a stick shift. Later they went to the jacked up quasi-SUV 4WD version.

Those were very unconventional - 4WD option, 3 swing-open doors (no sliders).

Ironically the Mazda5 has sliding doors on both sides now.

Looks like a Gallardo Spyder, but I'm not sure whose in particular.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,672
Yes, it's a Lamborghini Gallardo Spider now owned by Top Gear TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson and it's for sale.

  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,133
I'm going with Maserati Quattroporte, I think I see 2 sets of door handles. 1968?
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
sharp eye! Also I failed to notice that its a single rectangular headlight, not dual headlights.

As a Q4, it's definitely not worth fixing. I'd salvage the engine, though.

Yup, it's a first Gen(1963-69) 1964 Maserati QPorte with the Frua coachwork . US models had four round lights but according to Wikipedia all markets got the round lights after '66.

Austin Healey 100 (I think the 3000s had a hood scoop)
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,672
Yes it is an Austin-Healey 100 but more specvifically it's what is now known as a 100/4 to distinguish it from the six cylinder A-H 100/6s.

The hood scoop one key visual indicator of the six cylinder cars the other is the ovoid grille shape. Four-bangers all had the shell-shaped grille. but it's difficult to tell a late 100/6 from a 3000 Mk.I

Then there's the model codes that hard-core Healey types use, IMCDB id's the pictured car as a BN2 (mid'55-mid'56)

The BN1 had a 3-speed overdrive and the BN2 has a 4-speed. There were lots of other differences but not to the casual eye.

The BN2 just screams "sportscar"--- fold down windshield, wire wheels, no windows, big torquey 4 cylinder engine.

Looks like a VW Fastback, Rambler Classic, and Buick in the curb lane, a VW Beetle in the center, and a Oldsmobile 88, a Buick Electra 225, a Pontiac and a Ford? in the fast lane. And a VW going the other way.

You've pretty much covered the basics on those cars that can be identified but the black Olds, for example, is a 1961 with it's pointy-tailed rear fender. IMCDB sez it's a Dynamic 88.

The Black/Yellow Buick following it looks like a '67 and the Pontiac behind it is
a '64. The red VW is a mid 60's Beetle identical to my '65. That Blue Buick on the right looks like a '66 to me but I don't know Ramblers well enough to guess the year other than mid 60s like almost everything else.

The movie it's from was Bye Bye Braverman(1968) and it was filmed in locations in Manhattan, Queens and Bay Ridge, Brooklyn which would be my guess of where that still was taken.

I wonder who did the little secondary window first.

Always makes me think of this:

Which for 1968 was quite futuristic

The auto trans was killer. I've seen a 5 speed manual swap - that would be fun.

Good Touring car for snow country. C&D (IIRC, or was it R&T?) ran a test in snow and it won.

Funny part is a Subaru Justy came in 2nd. :D
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
The problem with the SVX, aside from being really tough to work on, is that parts are virtually unobtainium, and besides, there are many AWD sport coupes now that put this car in the dust.

Still, an interesting curiousity, and with a 5-speed, it might be pleasant to drive. It's no Sti, however.

OK, I'll bite... '57 DeSoto Firesweep. And a white Ford Ranchero in the background - maybe 1969.

I believe that one-off/concept was known as the Bertone Caraibo. It may have been done on Alfa mechanicals.

I think I found out. I zoomed in on another photo I forgot I had and saw that it was a Packard. I found 1936 Packard Dietrich Victoria online that looks very similar. I put my second photo on my blog if you want to look at it.

    Thanks!
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
I was also thinking Packard but I couldn't see the hub caps or the shape of the middle of the trunk.

You can see that the Buick looks very similar:
