Driving the 1971 Ford Maverick From Fast Five (Inside Line)
Except for the fiberglass "Grabber" hood, the sheet metal on this one is original ('71 model, but manufactured in '70). Best watch the pins on that hood, or it'll fly off, like it did with our testers.
Not sure what the rather odd line lock is for though; guess it's either set up for competitive offroading or drag racing.
Is the center post for towing something, like a glider or a parachute?
- I haven't seen the movie yet, either, or I'd suspect we would have both known.
And it's a '68 IH.
Full story from Inside Line.
Shame about the Scouts.
Sometimes I wish the Internet wasn't so big. :P
"We don't care, because we don't have to"
Lots of people thought the slogan was actually advertised by AT&T---LOL!
That doesn't surprise me at all! :shades:

However, it's probably the most comfortable model to drive over long distances.
The Series I had a flat floor to which the thin seat base was bolted.
You sat upright with your legs straight out in front of you; leg muscle cramps and back pain followed shortly after.
The V12s were definitely no longer sports cars, at least relative to the earlier Series. They became GT cars and I agree, much more comfy and all that.
IMO the V12s were a great GT but earlier Series cars were poor sports models.
They certainly had the looks (one of the most beautiful designs ever) and the speed, but cornering and handling were mediocre and the driver could never become as one with the vehicle, as should be the case in a true sports model.
This was due in the most part to the very agricultural gearbox and clutch.
The Series I was the worst with the incredibly slow and heavy gearshift and long throw heavy clutch which wasn't hugely improved in later models.
Add to all that a front end that became very light when speeds exceeded 100mph and you had a car that was ego boosting to be seen in around town, thrilling on an open straight road until it got scary, a car that you couldn't fail to turn around and look back at after you parked it, and one you were glad to step out of after anything more than an hour's drive.
Too easy, I should have just posted the truck!
Did you get the car behind the truck?
I like to think of the early E-Types in the same was as the TR250 or TR6--they were a "man's car", and required a good deal of effort to get the best out of them.
I agree, and the MGC and Austin Healy 3000 could probably be added to that list too.
While Sprites and Midgets were small and light, I think the Lotus Elite, followed by the Elan, were probably the first of the more refined lightweight sports models that would displace their more manly predecessors.
I remember watching clubman races at Brands Hatch when I was young, where Minis, Lotus, and Hillman Imps would run rings round Jaguars and five litre Galaxies.
Certainly made a lasting impression.
Ah we should have put the MGC as a mystery car. You need a sharp eye to spot one vis a vis an MGB. (the hood).
Ok, let's try this. What indicates this as being an MGC rather than an MGB?
Right! :shades:
Actually you're management, so you can't post the answer unless no one else gets it. :P
Not sure, but looks like a Ford Zephyr....
Uh-ha, if you say so.
Not sure, but looks like a Ford Zephyr....
I think you're right. Body shape is the same as the Zodiac but it appears to have the Zephyr grille.
Looks to have torsion bars as opposed to coil springs....
