It gives new meaning to the saying "I wouldn't be caught dead in that thing". :P

I prefer a Cadillac that is more simple, and classically elegant:

I was thinking along those lines... but would head over to the Lincoln side

updated Ford Taurus, due next year, but don't think it will be a 2012 MY.

though that Black color (I have on my '11 Explorer) is sharp, it's in short/no supply right now from the tsunami.

Right Brian, it's the 2013 Ford Taurus which supposedly will share much with the Euro Ford Mondeo and the Aussie Ford Falcon.

A little off Lemko, it's a 1947 Pontiac Silver Streak Streamliner.

    Nice color.

The lack of black paint reminds me of the article in last month's Consumer Reports about how many parts are imported on cars built here. It was shocking...

Mustang, Camaro, or Eclipse - which car has more North American content?

    Surprise - the Mitsubishi.

Tundra pickup had more content than Chevy/Ford pickups, too.

    Highlander more than "domestic" SUVs.

Camry more than Buicks and Fords is competes with.

It was really eye-opening. The auto industry has become globalized, like it or not.

Don't forget Fordlandia and Belterra down in your old neck of the woods. Ford established those rubber plantations in Brazil in the 20's to supply rubber for Dearborn.

Hurst JEEPSTER Commando. Very rare car. Hemmings says about 100 were built and only 3 are known to be left.

    Does that make it priceless?

    Noooooo..................

I'm a little rusty on my arcane British saloons (no pun intended) but I'm gonna take a stab at this---looks definitely like a Riley, circa mid-50s, so I'd say either a Riley 1.5 saloon or a Riley Pathfinder.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,671
You're right Shifty, it's a 1958 Riley One Point Five (that's how it's spelled out on the front fenders). The 1.5 was a twin to the Woolsley 1500, both were essentially upscale Morris Minors.

I'll post the whole dash later.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
The Riley One point five was actually quite fast for its day, as it was the Minor body and steering - quite well thought of in the mid-50's - with the larger 1489cc engine from the next size of car and in Riley form with twin carbs too, so it's basically the same engine as the MG Magnette. That made it quite a useful car on rallies and for saloon racing in the era before Minis took over...

Is this a Sunbeam Rapier ? - my Dad had one of those, and the dash looks similar, although of course the wrong way round.

No, not a Sunbeam Rapier, but it is British and from the same era.

Oops, that was clumsy. I should have said "from the same era as this Rapier".......

.........as the Rapier covers many model years and body styles.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
ok - still convinced Dad had something similar, how about a Vauxhall Victor 101 FC ?
  • mac24mac24 Member Posts: 3,910
No, the Victor 101 had a strip dash and speedo.
I'd post you a pic but Tinypic just went down.

It's a '73 BMW 3.0CSi, featuring one of the best looking dashboards ever IMO. 2800CS and 2800/3.0 Sedans were very similar inside.

Odd indeed but I'm guessing the STOP lights and flashes as he comes alongside. Can anyone confirm this.

I was at a parade when I first noticed it. The cop car was blocking a street, so I suppose you could see the stop sign and know not to proceed. Nothing was lit or flashing.

The big blue car with a light bar on top (even turned off) would get my attention way before the stop sign on the hood. ;)

Ah, Wiki has a blurb on it:

"MSP vehicles also feature a clear plastic sign, referred to as a "hood light" or "hailer" or "shark fin" on the hood that lights up when activated. The historical use of this hood light dates from the time when a "side stop" patrol stop would be initiated by pulling up next to an offender and the Trooper would motion them to pull over in daylight; at night the hood light was illuminated displaying the words "State Police" and "STOP" (MSP no longer use the "side stop")." link

Notice the unusual domelight that is blue in front and red in back.
