To be fair, all cars then rusted - just on the Brits and Italians, you could actually hear it taking over :shades:

Fintails can rust with a vengeance and I know 57-59 Mopars can really be eaten up, along with late 50s and early 60s Fords.

    I think it's a just-postwar Delage, I don't know the model
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
    You're right, it's a 1946 Delage D6. Fin.

I'll take the newest - 3 1960's: white '60 Chrysler In front of something 'different), light '60 Oldsmobile 2 cars ahead, and the black '60 Studebaker Lark front left.

I think the odd man out there is an early-mid 50s Rolls Royce Silver Wraith.

    Sounds right.

Looks like a Fiat Uno that took too much HGH.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,447
Yup, it is a la Forza. Yours for $2,500 (I found it on Craig's).

same guy has a '91 Alfa 164L for sale that looked nice enough. talk about a glutton for punishment!

I was excited that I got the picture posting to work 1st shot.

Impossible to afford keeping both running. ;)
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,464
There's a LaForza sitting outside in my area - one of those cars where the vegetation underneath is much longer and more dense than that around it. Had that car came out 10 years later, it would have been a minor hit - in 1990 the mass market wasn't ready for a SUV any nicer than a loaded Exploder.

The 164 isn't a bad car. Typical electrical gremlins, but the drivetrain is fairly reliable.

I'd still like one for myself, but it seems impossible to find a clean one.

Dont' buy an automatic 164L--that's another weakness.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,447
    A 5 speed. Cheap!

I don't see the ad any more for the one that was close to me (the guy that has the La Forza too). And can't remember if it was a stick or AT.

190k miles on an Alfa. The owner deserves a medal.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
The bottom ends on Alfa engines are very sturdy.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Yeah, I would have expected the heated seats to catch on fire, or other electrical gremlins to creep up. He's advertising heated seats front and rear so they must work!
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
You have to have an experienced, honest, clever, sober Alfa mechanic in your back pocket before you buy one--it you do, all is well. If you don't, then tough luck.

You don't really believe Rush was smart saying what he did, do you? Contraception is as much a male as female issue. I seriously don't think most of us believe our wives or girlfriends are whores or prostitues because they use employer sponsored insurance to purchase birth control. Rush stepped in it big time and that's why he is profusely apologizing right now while losing even more sponsors. You can't help wondering if he's fallen back into that illegal pain drug mess again after doing this. Personally, I'd never sponsor any right or left wing demagogue show because you end up alienating more potential customers than any business gain it might bring.

    G'day

Actually the 164 was very pleasant to drive and a good motorway cruiser. It shared the basic platform with the Saab 9000 (another great long distance cruiser) Fiat Croma and Lancia Theta.

The Alfa had the lovely 2.0 l Twin Spark 8 valve engine which was particularly sweet; very Italian. Handling was good for a largish (by European standards) saloon.

I thought it looked best in a Dark Green although red Alfas are always popular.

Inevitably, they rusted and had electrical problems.

    Cheers

    Graham

We didn't get the twin spark here. All were V6s for us. But, yes, a nice drive. I was about to buy one back in... oh.... must have been around 2000 or 2001, but just couldn't cut a deal with the seller.

    1969 Impala SS427 Custom Coupe.

Up through '70, I like the Sport Coupe roofline better. This '69, although gorgeous, looks a little goofy since the "Impala" nameplate on the Custom Coupes is on the roof sail panel, hence leaving the "SS" looking to me like something is missing right above it, but it isn't. Sport Coupes had the "Impala" nameplate right above the "SS".

Hmm, Lotus did a lot of tuning for folks. The body looks British to me. I know they had ties to Isuzu (Elan, Stylus, Impulse) but no way is that body an Isuzu...
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,447
isn't that the mid-60's Ford that they rallyed? A version of the Cortina maybe? I know the name but am blanking on it. Jamie Kitman has one! and it has those little fins...

You're right Stickguy. The Ford Lotus Cortina Mk.1 was a race and rally champion in the hands of some of the worlkd's great drivers back in the 60's.

International Travelall. I know these go back at least to the mid fifties, but think this one may be from the sixties since its lines look a bit more modern.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,464
    I'd say that's a late 60s one too.

The earlier ones had more flair, and are very rare today:
