Mercury Comet, I'll guess 67...maybe a Cyclone or another big engined car.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Spot on Fintail, the Hemmings ad doesn't specify that it's a Cyclone but it is one of six '67 Comets sold with the 427/425 engine and the 4-speed.

Apparently it's one of the last Plain Jane Musclecars.

I thought those Ford style displacement badges just forward of the front wheel openings looked unusual. Probably not a Cyclone, just a stripper with a big engine.

Yegods...with those little tires, it must just sit there and burn a hole to China....Talk about nose-heavy.. Jack

hint: early 50s, Europe, produced in reasonable quantity, this marque no longer exists as individual entity and last made a car on its own in 1967.

Beats me, reminds me of a Crosley but that's not it.

There's Triumph running gear powering it (clue).

I know I've seen it before, I think I could go root through my old copies of "Autocar" and find it. I want to say it is fiberglass, but maybe not.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
You are getting warm Fintail, it is a 'glass body, and you might see it in an old Autocar,if it's an old enough issue.

The styling of the car ought to point you to which decade to look in. :P

Is a Peerless GT, ca. 1959, later sold under the name Warwick GT. Here's another look>>

I'd wager that it's a '92 or '93, probably a Cobra since you usually pick one that could be identified as a plain base model :P

I think '92 didn't have the Cobra, '93 did though. 230 horses or so too. So, '93 Mustang Cobra is my final answer.

  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
You're right on the money Brian. The '93 Cobra was nearly identical cosmetically to a standard Mustang GT except for the narrow slot of a grille
    above the front bumper.

Looks like an Acura NSX, though the Honda emblem is on the hood. Non U.S. market NSX?

    -Brian
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Correct again. The NSX was sold as a Honda almost everywhere but the USA, hence the big "H".

Very difficult if not impossible to tell, as those cars changed in almost no way through their production run.

However, the last 300SL rolled off the line in 63.

    I'll guess a 60.

Owing to technical difficulties I put those pix up too soon and you guys jumped all over 'em.

Now that they are all up, perhaps you can tell me the only model year in which ALL of these classic sports cars could be bought new. :)

OK then, so we have a 300SL roadster - 1957-1963

    Some kind of c.1960 Ferrari

    A first series E-Type - 1961-1967 I think

And a (model of) a Shelby Cobra, c.1963-1964 - it doesn't appear to be an AC.

1963 seems like a good guess, but it could be 62 or 61 I guess, although I thought Shelbys started in 63.

That's correct although few '63s were made since it's "replacment" the 230SL started in '63.

    Some kind of c.1960 Ferrari
For some of us that's the Ferrari of the late 50s and early '60s, it's the famous 250GT short-wheelbase Berlinetta, Ferrari's first big seller and a consistent winner in GT racing, made from 1958 to 1962. It was replaced by the 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso on the street and by the 250GTO on the racetrack in '63.

    A first series E-Type - 1961-1967 I think Yep

And a (model of) a Shelby Cobra, c.1963-1964 - it doesn't appear to be an AC.
Yep, that's an early 260 Cobra, introduced in 1962. Shelby timeline.

1963 seems like a good guess, but it could be 62 or 61 I guess, although I thought Shelbys started in 63.

By now you've figured out that '62 is the year I was looking for, the only one that production of all four of those classics overlapped. ;)

wasn't that in the background of another [icture recently?

I'll guess a '62 (my favorite year) Falcon. Futura sprint?

not a bad looking car actually.

    62 Sprint 260 V-8..Pretty little bugger
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Did you know these cars raced in the famous Monte Carlo Rallye?

(didn't win, but they were respectable enough and pretty fast...downside was inferior brakes and a lot of work to drive on the curves).
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Just for the record it's a '63 and the ad makes no mention of a V8 so I suspect it's a Futura, not a Sprint. It's the same car that showed up in the background behind the 1970 Goat in post #4099.

Looks like a Bentley Arnage (I see them now and then here), although they made about half a dozen trim variations - Red Label, Black Label, T to name some off the top of my head, and I can't tell them apart.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yep, it's a Bentley Arnage, MY '99. I can't tell if it's Red, Green or Black Label either.

Those wheels and the red mirror housings, along with the small wing denote that it is no ordinary Mini-Cooper. Who knows what they mean?

BTW, I can't see your picture in #4166.

They go too far on that one. The wing is hideous. I'm not crazy about the two-tone wheels, either.

That's Hudson's idea of what Hollywood would like...but they didn't.

Eckually, if you had a nice one you could get a fairly good price for it today. I'd guess 1952.
