Indeed. The fake one on my '97 Outback was the worst.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670

This one might be trickier that it looks. It's a rare car.

It has the nose of a 365GTC and everything else is 275 GTS so I'm guessing it's a 330 GTS.

That hood blister makes me think it has a 6 cylinder engine, so I'm thinking grahampeters nailed it.
    Good hint from shifty, though.

FWIW four cylinder TR-4s and TR-4As had the same hood bump to clear the twin side-draft carbs. It wasn't on the TR-6 and that's too bad but I then always thought the TR-6 styling lacked pizzaz. It just goes to show that you should go to the Italians for styling and the Germans for mechanicals.

@ andys120 ---- oh, you are close. Good effort but not quite there. I warned you, this is a rare car. Only 20 made.

All right then, it must be a Ferrari 365 GTS which I forgot about because there was a better known 365 "Daytona" GTB/Spider (or something like that.

Yep, a 365GTS! Ferrari nomenclature can drive one batty.

I quite agree but Alfa-Romeo names are even more prolix.

    You mean you don't know that a 1965 Giulia Sprint GT isn't a 1965 Giulia Sprint GT Veloce isn't a 1965 Giulia TI Super isn't a 1965 Giulia Super?

OK, let me study this. Hmmm.....this is hard....I'd guess a late 60s GTV.

Ha! I knew I'd get that one by you. From that angle it looks like a GTV but NO. You're looking at a 1972 Alfa-Romeo GT Junior 1600, a model popular in Europe but never official exported to the US.

Of course like the GTV its styling is based on the Bertone- bodied Giulia Sprint GT of the mid 60s.

Oh no fair! You'd never see a Junior in the USA with dual headlights! B)

On some Alfas, you really need to see the back of the car and/or the engine to make a positive ID.

Here is one I saw in the news today:

    http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2015/05/05/texas-time-capsule-five-pre-war-automobiles-preserved-in-barn/?intcmp=features

I know it is pre-war, but I thought you guys would be interested.

Cool stuff. I didn't notice any pics of the Kozy Coach, I'd like to see that. Someone made a lucky investment.

That green car looks like some kind of customized mid 60's Cutlass, but the side marker lights throw me unless it's a resto-mod. But it's hard to get a sense of the car's size proportions against the large building entryway.

Nothing custom about the green car.
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
Well it may have European plates and nowadays so much of the business districts in different major world cities look similar, but I don't think it's a Opel or Vauxhall. Too big and doesn't look like their period styling to me. IIRC Opel's were involved with Buick and Vauxhall's with Pontiac, don't know if either worked with Oldsmobile back in those days. Maybe some kind of Australian Holden?
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,108
    Not Aussie.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,429
Neat. The market for early trailers like that is pretty hot right now, once upon a time, they had very little value.

For the mystery car, think about the origin of that plate.

The radiator mascot says pre-war Cadillac. I'd guess mid-30s possibly with a custom body by LeBaron.

Hint on the green car: GM
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,229
The green car is an Opel - I think its an Admiral Coupe circa 1972/4 but they also had a Diplomat and that might have included a coupe. Not sure about those big Opels as we didn't see them in UK - largest they sold here was the Commodore and I don't think it is one of those.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,108
Yep, it's the last Opel Diplomat A made (#347, talk about rare), a '67, owned by the current Opel CEO. Has a SBC for power:

I think I read Lebaron. I dunno, these cars don't look so "carefully stored" to me. But you can be sure that people spending this kind of money are going to look these cars over pretty carefully.

Citroen should sell in the U.S. We've got way too many boxy GM SUV's and pick-em-up trucks so a stretched-out Citroen C6 looks like apple pie and vanilla ice cream to this eastern Warshingtonian right now. :)

Well, we had bathtub Impala's, Packard's and Nash's over the years. Actually, I find Citroen's interesting, but they would need a dealer and parts system to support them over here.

    G'day

Not exactly common here in Australia, either. I think there about 150 Citroen C6 in the country and I can only find one for sale on line for AUD30k. Big French cars are a special breed, but you need to be prepared to maintain them. There always seem to be specialists in backstreet garages who have "the knack".

    Cheers

It's a 2006 Citroen C6. It was their "Executive" car designed to compete w the BMW 5 and Merc E-Class cars. It has been discontinued since 2012 and so far no direct successor has emerged. IIRC Monsieur Le Presidente now makes do with a DS5, a luxury hatchback.

    Sacre bleu, le infame!

    PS-The C8 was a luxury Minivan.

Well I guess he can't very well drive around in a Mercedes. Doesn't Renault make a large car of some sort?

Le Presidente does not "drive around" in anything, he is driven around. The current Renault "Executive" car is the Latitude and most assuredly his Excellency is not driven around in a Taxicab!>

    Renault Latitude Taxi (Singapore)

PS- the Latitude is built off the same platform as the Maxima and the Murano.

imageJudging by the building and cars, this is probably from around 1975 maybe early 1976 - and knowing the area, a few of these are still on the road.

    A little larger here

what always amazes me is how domestic it was back in those days. My old eyes can only pick out 2 that appear to be foreign (and I can't quite tell what they are!)

    Is that the kingdome?

Kingdome, I think. I like that yellow 72ish Dart.

Yep Kingdome, appears to be in the final stages of construction. I know it opened in the spring of 76.

Not just a lack of foreign cars, but a lack of Japanese cars - I see a few Germans in the pic, but only one or two that could possibly be Japanese, and they are so far away it's hard to tell.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,429
For foreign cars, the one I spot most is a W110 fintail - parked on the street behind what looks like a white Mercury Comet, in the middle of the pic.

There's a Beetle in the middle of the row at far left, Just below the fintail, between a big Ford and an International, there's something foreign looking. Going towards the right, parked beside a 67-68 Mustang looks like a Volvo, and another Beetle just above that. At far center right, near some people, there's a small car, maybe a Scirocco? On the right, up from there, there's a VW van in the parking lot, along with a fastback thing that is probably foreign, and a very small blue car that might be foreign. That's about all I can see.

Oldest cars are the white Comet, the fintail, and a 64 Impala.

I see a blue Benz and a black VW Beetle for the foreign cars.

EDIT: Fintail beat me to it!
