My brother spend $800 putting a timing belt in Mom's Protege and then sold it for her for $800. Had, iirc, ~90,000 miles on it. A veritable, albeit stinky, creampuff. Can't remember the year now.

I could have pulled the headliner, seats and carpet out and let it air out in a hot Boise summer and probably gotten most of the stink out.

My wife had a '90 240SX with the motorized mouse belts, when we got married... I hated that car...

    Taurus SHO. '91?

Yup, I had one that looked exactly like it. I remember it as a great engine in search of a good car. It pretty much fell apart after about 70K miles.

At least back then you could tell an SHO from a standard Taurus. The current version looks indistinguishable from a Taurus SEL.

Extra points if you can identify the plane too.

For the plane, a Grumman, not a Goose, maybe a Mallard?
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
If it walks like a mallard, talks like a mallard, and flies like a mallard, I'd say that's a correct ID!

The car? A 1949 Mercury Woody is my guess. I don't think it had a special name--just Mercury Station Wagon.

Yep, I believe that is a Grumman Mallard, one of a long line of Grumman amphibians. At first I thought it was an Abatross but it's too small and too big for a Widgeon or a Goose.

As for the Merc woody, over at The Old Motor, they think it's a 1949 Mercury Eight.

Yup, a '63 Pontiac Catalina coupe, this is what the power hungry drove before the advent of the intermediate "muscle cars" in 1964.

This one has a 389 mated to a three-speed. Perhaps the original owner couldn't get a "four-on the floor with the three-post coupe. Note the dog dish hubcaps indicating a low trim level.

IMHO the '63 could be good lookers if trimmed out properly.>

IIRC, this one wears a "421" badge.

Not a powerful engine at all, but smooth. You can hardly tell a 1948 car from a 1938 car.

2 water pumps! And to think, in 1948 only one year away from the Rocket 88 and slab-sided styling, and few years from power steering ('51 Imperial?). The Modern Age was about to sweep cars like this away.

I've often thought that w/o P/S &P/B those gigantic cars of the late 50s would never have happened but then neither would the massive four-door pickups and SUVs so common today. Perhaps Power Steering and Brakes haven't been a net benefit.

It's 1984 Trimuter, as featured in Total Recall. Guy is selling a couple of other interesting "birds". A 3-Wheeled Honda, and a 1986 Kawasaki with a passing resemblance to a Piper Cub.

@magnette, you can paste the URL in the bottom of the pic box. Like so:

You can also open a couple of windows and just grab the pic from one browser screen and drag it over to the posting box. Or drop the URL in the box (that's the drop image/file part).

I'm picking up the code from the site, but it disappears when I try to post into the image box - before you had a system where there was an image button - is that not available?

    try again again

still won't work - I think I'm stuck with just my own photos to post. Every time I post the code in the box it just closes - what do you do after you have the code in the cream coloured part of the pic box?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454

Ah, I can see from "editing" your post with my host tools that you have some extraneous code in your URL. You need to get rid of the iframe stuff.

I can post your Flickr pic with your code, but I'd give away the car names. Note that Flickr has an imbed button that it defaults to when you pick share this photo, but you need to select the html button. What you're looking for is the part that starts "https://" and continues with "www.flickr.com/photos/michiel..." Just end your code with the .jpg part and delete the rest.

no - every time it closes the image box and I can't see what to do - the code is in there, it just won't let me post it and I can't drag the picture across either becaue the pic box closes as soon as you try to do that.

This is the first time I've tried to post a picture from another source - not one of my own - since this website was changed, and I cannot see how to get it into your pic box

I don't think Flickr will let you do it that way.

Ordinarily all you have to do is grab the pic with your mouse and drag it into the posting box - you don't even need to worry about the icon with the folded corner.

You may want to try a snipping tool.

I use flickr for mine. I just click on the photo and in the bottom right is an arrow for "Share this photo." A popup comes up with the link, but it defaults to "Embed," so you have to click the selection for "HTML."

Take all of that and simply paste it right into the body of your post. No need to use the link or picture options here on Edmunds.

    My example:

    image

Of course, that's also the default 75x75. You'll need to select a size a bit larger before copying the code.

BUT, if it is not your pic, you may not be able to do it, depending on the user's settings. For example, if I try to share a pic from a photographer friend on there, it tells me it is restricted.
