Chevy V8-powered Gordon Keeble. a pretty rare grand tourer made from '64-'67

Yes a Gordon Keeble. I'm not sure if this is one of the production ones - which were glass-fibre -or the prototype which was fitted with a steel body. They built a total of 99 I believe. And on the badge, for what was a fast car for it's day, was a tortoise.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
    Somewhat smaller.....

  • tmarttmart Member Posts: 2,403
No clue, but it's cute. Looks like a bumper car!

Yes, it looks like it is too small for the road, although a few years later bubble cars were even smaller, and the overall length is nearly the same as a 50's Fiat 500 although it is probably narrower. Actually they made a few thousand of these in France in the late 40's and early 50's. This make was established to make these cars, but used the former factory of another French make - one that was famous back in the 1900's for extremely large and expensive cars including limousines built for the Tsar of Russia...

No further guesses on the little French car? Well it's a Rovin D4 - the Rovin was made from 1946 through to about 1954, and the D4 was the last version from late 1950 - this one was actually provided with the largest motor they ever had, 462cc two-cylinder, producing 13hp. Over 1200 D4's were produced - mostly in 1950-2 as it dwindled thereafter.

Rovin made small cars in tiny numbers before the war, from the late twenties, in Paris, but the factory where they were made was not suitable for what was intended to be a production car after the war and instead the former premises of Delauney-Belleville were taken over, also in Paris, for this purpose. Delauney-Belleville had made large cars - mostly with round bonnets like steam engines - since about 1902, including some of the greatest cars of the pre WW1 era, some of which were sent to St.Petersburg for the Tsar. Later they had made commercial vehicles and buses.

There are a few of these Rovins still around - mostly in France, but I recall seeing one in Brussels at their car museum in the early 90's and another somewhere else.

that photo of my car posted here was not a red-light ticket!
all the info is in the photo: it was a photo-radar speeding ticket for 62 in a 50 on I-295 in DC.
Turns out it was my first ticket in the rarely-correctly-identified new car. For the second ticket on NY Thruway (written for 75 in 65), the trooper was mystified by the vehicle but neither he nor I was talkative... all business, all professional.

    1967 Ford Country Sedan Wagon.
(And their tail pipes did stick out that far.)

So that script says "Sedan" and not "Squire"? I would have guessed Squire - never heard of 'em being called Country Sedans before.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,517
Country Sedan was the middle range wagon, the Squire being the top of the line.
  • tmarttmart Member Posts: 2,403
Also, the Squire had "wood" sides, IIRC.

We were a Buick station wagon family growing up . Not that I'd much recognize one of those either....

Cool wagon, wouldn't throw one of those out of the garage.

Anybody out there able to identify this beauty? It looks like it might be slightly chopped, but I'm guessing the basic lines are pretty close to original. (No logos or emblems left though, other than this one on the grille.)
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,133
Looks like a 1971 Chrysler New Yorker, not chopped, but lowered, I think.

Andre will probably wander by eventually and tell you exactly what it is. Including the axle ratio.

Definitely a Mopar. I assume it is about a 1970ish Chrysler. Probably a Newport. maybe an Imperial.

Hmmm, yes, it could be a 71.

The space between the tail light lenses is too small to be a Newport.
The space, slightly larger than the length of the license plate, indicates a New Yorker.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,133
The grill also looks more like a New Yorker than a Newport.

     Soon to become a GTO?
  • lostwrench1lostwrench1 Member Posts: 1,165
Custom rather than Sprint. If we could only read the oblong side badge under Tempest.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,529
A 4 door GTO? Interesting. Wonder how that would have sold?

Oh sorry, didn't look at the picture! Actually, not a bad idea, a 4-door GTO...but perhaps ahead of its time?
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,133
    You can get a 4-door M3....
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,529
Pontiac did come out with this. The Aussie 4 door that morphed into a Chevy that no one bought.

So here's a question: what was the first legitimate 'Big 3' performance-oriented 4-door?
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,529
Impala SS? I assume you mean intended to be one, and badged as such.

Plenty of big motor sleepers in the old days!

Bad marketing. It should have been marketed as a BMW 5 series, not as a 4-door hotrod.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,133
Anything earlier than that Impala? Other than an optioned-up sleeper?
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
If you mean by "performance" handling and braking as well as power, I can't think of any except furrin' cars, like the Maseratio Quattroporte.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,133
Even just power - any 4 doors?
  • lostwrench1lostwrench1 Member Posts: 1,165
    58 Mercury?

How 'bout this? '66 Dodge Coronet with a gen-you-ine 426 Hemi:

    $660K. wow. For a 4 door.

But, I don't count that. That is more like a base stippo Tempast with the biggest motor, but nothing else.

reminds me of when I was in HS. a kid my age (son of people my parents knew) was visiting other kids that lived across the street, and had his mom's car. So, of course he had to show off when he left, by burning rubber for an extended time at the corner.

getting to the point, the car was a plain early 70s Plymouth (like something the Brady's would have) 4 door. Dog dish caps, etc. But they towed a trailer with it, and it had the biggest motor you could get (not sure if it was a 440). That thing was a 4 door Barracuda, and was way overpowered for the tires. Seemed to have no problem moving a trailer though!

Did have to lie to mom though, claiming to have no idea who did the burnout!

Don't think about it much now, but how many of those cars in Vegas didn't have a/c? Hot!
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Just look at that magnificent architecture. And the views from your balcony---LOL!

What's that dark car, second row on the right? And who was so bold as to drive a black car in Vegas?
  • tmarttmart Member Posts: 2,403
My first thought is a 52-54 Ford wagon. Looks to be a GM convention. Only see two Fords, three if I'm right on the wagon. Interestingly, they're parked side by side!
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
That sounds about right. The Fords are herding for safety.

What's the red blob between the white caddy and white Chevy, top right? Can't make it out on the iPad.
