Renault Avantime. I think I saw a couple this last trip to Europe, all in Geneva I think. They are getting rare now, it's a shame what TG did to theirs. I think the roof chop was an Espace, but they still ruined the Avantime. Future cult car, if the electronics hold up.
You are correct – it was the espace that they turned into a convertible. The avantime was chopped and modded  to achieve a specific lap time

Apparently, the last automobile to be built with the name "Pontiac" on it, anywhere in the world, was a G3 Wave made in Canada. (Dec 2009). The last American Pontiac made was a G6, in November 2009.

The G3 sold only 7,000 cars in the US and Canada. Here's a car that probably sold even fewer in its lifetime:

Wikipedia says they sold about 6000 ZDXs, total.

    Every one they made. ;)

I see those ZDXs now and then around Seattle. CO and WA must have been the markets. Kind of like Vehicross.

A big disappointment for Acura, to be sure.

    Anybody remember this flop?

  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,515
Lexus IS300 sportcross. I probably would have bought one if they put the stick in that model, and not just the 4 door.

cool car. Kind of tight inside, and really lousy MPG.

Subaru Bajas are around here too - probably also to be found in CO.

The Sportcross...I remember when the new IS was a hot topic about 2 and a half years ago, Lexus actually posted a rumor to its own facebook page that a Sportcross variant would come with the sedan. Of course, it didn't happen.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Problem with it was price and there also wasn't much "sport" in it.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,515
it did have interesting chronograph/motorcycle style gauges. And metal pedals. that qualifies as sporty, right? At least at Lexus?

And the original IS also pioneered the 'clear tail light' trend that every fanboi had to copy on their 10 year old Civic with $10 aftermarket parts from Pep Boys.

The kid down the street has a SportCross. It's a great looking car. Only thing missing is a stick-shift. It may not not have sold a lot, but it wasn't hideous in appearance, like the ZDX.

Sort of like the 3-series wagon. Didn't sell much, but everyone thinks they are "cool" now.

Here's another vehicle that bombed in the marketplace:

    Is that the Lincoln?

I've seen a couple of white ones here that have looked pretty sharp.

    Lincoln mark LT.

Saw one on the turnpike Saturday. Riding on the back of a flatbed tow truck.

I think that's the LT's predecessor, the very short-lived 'Blackwood'.

    Lincoln Blackwood?
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Yep, the Blackwood. They sold only 3,356 of them, and this vehicle has the distinction of being discontinued even before the 2002 model year ended.
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
The ones I see around here are most likely the "common" Mark LTs.

You can put lipstick on an F150 but that doesn't make it a star.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,510
It's a Moskvich something or other probably from the late 50s. Some of their designers admired the 52-54 Fords, I know a GAZ Volga looked similar.

I saw a Blackwood at a dealer once. I looked through the window and remember being impressed with the interior. Pricetag made me choke, though.

Eastern Europe? East German or Russian perhaps. Something about it suggests a Wartburg.

It was basically a Navigator inside and IIRC the bed is carpeted.  Not all that different than the Escalade version of the Avalanche.

Yes - well done Fintail. It's a Moskvitch 423 Estate - circa 1958/9. Bit smaller than the GAZ Volga.

I remember we had an old early 50's Dodge school bus that's front end looked like that. That particular bus had a tendency to break down as I recall.

I thought that coupe, the 1st gen Acura sedan, and the 2005 or so Acura TL were the best of the bunch, by far.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 267,518
Man... I wanted one of those bad.

In 1990, I was shopping for 1989 model, stick... slightly used. Asking prices were about $23,900, and my budget was $20K. When I couldn't get anyone under $22K, I bought a 1984 911 Targa, instead for $20K.

About 4 years later, my sister-in-law got a '90 LS model... I was really jealous.

And today compare the value of the Legend (which are getting to be pretty rare even here) to the Targa. Fun times.

When I was a kid, I thought the coupe was a hardtop. Nice looking car.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,515
I remember going to look at Acuras when they first came out. as in the first week the dealer in NJ was open (and that was not even a dealership yet, they were working out of the garage area because a showroom was not ready yet). This was either 1985 or early 1986.

I was looking at integras though. Pop up "moonroof" on the first year LS. Loved the 4 door legend though. Would have been great to get one, but at the time, a $20K sticker (not even factoring in any ADM) was way out of the budget! The Integra was 12K, still a lot at the time, compared to other options. Heck, a 1986 GTI was about $2K less than the Acura.

Yeah... I had the 911 for 4 years, and sold it for $16,500.. today, could probably get $25K for it. But, no one knew that, then. '89 Legend coupe would have been worth about $10K after 4 years, and about $3500 now.

I really like the 2nd generation Legend sedan.

It's an 88 Acura Legend 5-speed. Funny how the best looking Acuras were the first, it's been all downhill since.
