The passat was actually a redesign. The volvo was an upgrade, primarily changing to the new engine. Pretty sure the Volvo though is just a 2015 to the DMV.

the Mustang was only a 1965. There was no 1964. Just "fanboy" lingo for the early run (generators?) of the 65's

Those Falcon Sprints made for a nice cheap Mustang back then, especially when bought used.

When I was 15, there was a Falcon Sprint like that, similar looking (but no goofy wide whites) in town, and I wanted that badly for my first car. Old guy who had it never drove it, it languished under a carport. My dad visited him a couple times (I think he liked my dad's 60 Ford), the owner wanted to give it to his son, who had no interest. Several years later the old guy passed away, car vanished, never seen again.

For half years, I think it is only an American thing, in most other places age revolves around first registration.

I can at least wrap my head around a mid-year model introduction - that EU X reg, Y reg stuff. I guess if you grew up with it or cared it'd be simple but it looks like Greek from here. But you could be selling a 2000 Peugeot and one could be X reg and another a W reg.

What the heck does this mean?

Kind of fun reading the AutoTrader UK ads though.

You guys are on the ball. That is indeed a 1963 Falcon Futura/260. IIRC the "Sprint" nameplate didn't come around until the second gen Falcons were introduced in '64 but there's some confusion about that. It might be that V8 Futuras were also "Sprints".

"X/Y reg" is a British thing, all depends on the time of year it was registered. Today, the registration data is numeric. In Germany and other places, an ad simply states the month and year of first registration (German abbreviation "EZ").

There was a 1963 style "Sprint" - the one I remember was a Sprint badged rounded car like that, the 64s were the more angular style.

The Sprint badge was right behind the V8 badge on the fender, and isn't on this car. Those are Sprint wheel covers though.

I've always been confused by this "1/2" stuff.

I know everyone loves to talk about the '64 1/2' Mustang and I know there was a 2001.5 Passat and a 2015.5 Volvo.

What does the VIN say for these cars?

It is all BS. As far as I know, no title or registration is going to have a .5 designation. And I'm not even sure why anyone bothers with modern cars. I mean, when the WRX was first introduced to the US, it was in April of 2001, and they were 2002 model year cars. So if Subaru can do it 8 months ahead, there is no reason why the other manufacturers can't do the same thing.

Here's a clearly Sprint-badged 63, many easily found via google:

Regarding early introductions, good point. The MB W221 S-Class was on US roads by January 2006 - as a 2007 model. No half year nonsense.

Early introductions were a big deal, back then. Almost every new model year was available in September or October.

But, it's a good point. The point-5 thing is just for collectors. The car is either a '63 or a '64 (etc..).

The '02 Honda CR-V came out in March, 2002, and they have been late arrivals, ever since. Though, they seem to get out around late November, now.

I can go one better ... the 2017 Audi Q7 was just released in the last few days. Not sure you can get any earlier than that.

Whoever came up with the idea that fender skirts on the FRONT wheels was a good idea, needed to be beaten repeatedly with a rubber chicken.

    Super 600, yes, ok.
Its lacking the chrome "600" or "Ambassador" on the front fender didn't help.

The last gasp of pre-war styling. They do make great rods though, if you want to build something completely different.

It's dumb as hell, bad for brakes and tire changing. The cars must have had the turning radius of
an ocean liner but it's a great styling gimmick and back then styling ruled.

There was a Super 600 on Ebay I had my eye on not all that long ago. I think I may have even posted it here. Poor color combo in beige on beige, but I couldn't stop looking at it. Talked and thought about that one quite a bit but just didn't do anything about it in the end. I believe the bidding went higher than I wanted anyway.

Edit: Ah, I had posted it on the Project Cars thread. Bad paint, good interior, 1949 model. Got $7800 on ebay.

It could be a 1957.5 depending on how many verticals were under the front bumper.

Speaking of half years, almost forgot.

Last year, Volvo actually came out with 2015.5 models, and labeled them as such. Really weird. Guessing they all showed as 2015 on car titles, though.

I've about given up on XC90s. We don't show any new or used 2015 XC 90 models in the drop down Make | Model tabs. But we revealed the interior of the 2015 XC90 back in 2014. :)

    It's a 1960s Honda S800 Coupe. I don't think that's a motel, it's an apartment in the outer burbs of Tokyo.
