No, more Lancia-ish. Hood scoop suggests a Fulvia circa mid 70s?? This would be the post Fiat era, when the elegant and beautifully built (and totally bankrupt) Lancia had already been turned into some less.

Now you're talking, it is indeed the Spider's forgotten sibling, a '72 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe

Shifty you must've been thinking of this one>

There is a resemblance, IIRC Bertone designed both.

Very similar, yes. Gee, the Fiat 124 coupe is so rare today, I'd forgotten what one looked like! Too bad--that's a car I'd love to have. I'm not a soft-toppian anymore.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,672
Yep, it's been a very long time since I've seen a 124 Sport Coupe but even longer since I've seen a Lancia Beta.

    DeSoto.
Because of the wheel covers, I'll go with 1952.

I drove a Lancia Beta that was for sale... I think it was a '75 model. This was in 1988, in Somerset, KY. It was a little too rough for the $1500 that they wanted.

ah. Not one of those, since they seem to be hatchbacks.

    Not a current Vento either.

I have no clue how old it is. Still looks like a mid-90s Jetta.

It's the last generation Jetta for the Mexican market. Goes by the moniker of Volkswagen Clasico 2.0 Sport. Wikipedia has these details:

"In October 2010, the name "Jetta" was dropped, and the simpler name "Clasico" (Spanish for "classic") was chosen, suggesting this model may still be offered for years to come. After the 2013 model year the Clasico lineup was reduced to a single trim level which is the base model called CLasico CL Aire (which means it is equipped with air conditioning). The 2014 model was the last to be produced in Puebla, Mexico in favor of the more modern Vento."

So this one is circa 2010 to 2012.

How can you expect anyone to identify the car without the hood on it? Just kidding; I have no clue.

Good eye, Fin. I think you're right. I've never seen anything but the saloon of that iteration and I missed it.

I bet it was pretty chic for that 1952-55 or so period when pontoon-styled Euros and British cars were real trendy exotics.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Perhaps, but a Hillman will always sound, and feel, like a Cuban taxi cab, no matter what you do to it.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,517
It's all about the look, just like why 190SLs can hit 200K today.

not this one Shifty (which coincidentally happens to be the same car image you pulled).

400 HP in a Hillman? Yeah, sounds safe. But man, what a clean looking install.

That sure looks like a Wolseley all right but can't quite place the year. I'm going to leap into the unknown and guess that it's a 1958 1500 Saloon.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
Thats right it says on the picture its 1957 but anyway its the same car. Same engine as my MG Magnette but a modified Morris nor body - the Rily version (the One Point Five) had twin carbs as well but the Wolseley had just a single carb 1500 engine. They also made about 50 or so for Ireland with a smaller engine - the Wolseley 1200 (there was a fiscal advantage. I've never seen one of those.

50s British sedans are so hilarious...it's like the British auto industry is being dragged kicking and screaming into the modern world. Only the various sports cars they produced seem to redeem them.

Agreed, shifty! Just what is more appealing ta iluv, a 2017 Toyota iA, 1968 Datsun 411 Bluebird, 2017 Kia Soul 6-speed, 2017 5-speed Mitsubishi Mirage hatchback or a 2017 5-speed Mitsubishi G4 4-dr. sedan?

And for whatever reason Mazda skips a manual tranny in their 2016 CX-3? What kind of disaster movie were Mazda production directors mulling through in order ta come up with a decision like that? :o

MG midget. Not sure I would fit these days! I did test drive one about 20 years back. Seem to recall it was very small. and slow, which was probably good because it seemed to have non-existent brakes. No, I did not buy that one.

You got it. Sorry, guys, I don't have the year of this one. I am starting to decide I don't want ta wander back in time and buy one of these 60's rigs I seem to adore so much. I don't mind tinkering but I don't adore tinkering in my spare time. I'd rather go driving in the little darling on my days off, eh? Stay tuned, though, how I feel regarding automobile brands and models will differ in time. What I do want, for sure, is small rigs with manual trannies, dudes.

BTW - are we all guys on here? Would we have any way ta tell? Hee-hee, I don't know what Mrs.iluvmysephia1 put in my chicken dinner, but it might be time to put my headphones on and turn up some Foghat about now. B)
