Was able to briefly talk to this driver 3 lanes across and get a snap, and exchange thumbs ups. Well, he was thumbs upping my thumbs up, not my minivan.

CRX Si. about a 90. and in typical condition for one of them these days (man that thing needs an alignment!). I test drove one when they were new. Quite the hoot to drive.

    1990 SiR.

He was turning left so maybe that's what you are seeing? He was having fun driving it.

That front end has to be a Monteverdi something - not sure of the name and don't want to cheat :)

I wonder what kind of Mopar engine is under the hood.

I cheated, it's a Monteverdi Safari, 345 and 440 V8s were added to the engine lineup after the original 318.

Did Andy have a guess in there? :p

I did my math wrong. I think it actually has a 340!

Last chance on a model name!

    Skoda Gallimaufry?

Missed the article, seems to be a bit of a mishmash. Or goulash....
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,108
Kind of reminded me of an Isuzu Impulse, but not as clean.

    No guesses on the hatchback?

I know the white Asian looking but not Asian hatch, but won't give it away.

Here's a goodie - Sunset Strip, 1979 - memorable billboards. I'll pick off the MB W116 in the far left lane heading away from the camera, and the yellow flared fender Celica behind the van heading towards the camera:

    Here it is, larger

Silver car heading away in the right lane - Plymouth Arrow (or its equivalent).

Looks like a Cutlass Supreme dead center. Judy Collins sold out the local theatre here last week. We saw her a few years back in Calumet Michigan in the UP. Neither place is exactly LA. :D

Behind the yellow Celica is a gen-1 Cressida, and behind that is a Granada or Monarch.

I see a late 60's Corona behind the Beetle coming towards the camera.

I remember driving on Sunset when I was a teenager - got my license in 1979. Would frequently stop at the original Tower Records.

behind the giant Caddy, a bright blue late 70s Volvo 240, with the slant "safety" nose. and behind that, in the center (suicide) lane, what looks like an MGB. But could be a 240Z

and my favorite, bottom right, the left have of a 1969ish Volvo 144. Twin to the car my parents bought new and I learned to drive on when it was well used in the late 70s. I loved that car.

I had a '69 142. I loved mine too. Ran the snot out of it, and it kept coming back for more.

My guesses on some guesses - I think the car behind the Celica is a Corona, and the car in the suicide lane is a Fiat 124 Spider.

I think you're right about the Fiat. I also caught sight of a tan car behind the green Chevy pick-up in the oncoming curb lane. I think it's a Rolls Siver Cloud, or possibly a Mk II Jag. Any other guesses?

I see it too, the big round lights, way back there behind a Mopar van. I am guessing likely a Mk II or a small chance of even a XK150. Maybe the oldest car in the shot.

What year? What story - "Oddball two door hatches"?

Odd duck. Euro market I assume?
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,387
that I have never seen before. I I have heard of the 400's (DAF) models. I think they had a CVT too, right?

like the interior. love the seats. Rear side view screams toyota FX. Front end, just weird.

I would have guessed Volvo just from the adjuster knob on the seatback. Brings back memories!

Monica - a French beauty. I have a brochure for that car, as they displayed some time in the early seventies at Earls Court, London. Only made a couple of cars though.

We try to stay away from "one-offs" and concept cars, and we keep to postwar (World War II for you young 'uns).

One of my favorite cars and one of the rare ones I like better as a 4-door. (there you heard me say that!)

I'll let the young 'uns have first crack at this one, since I was there with my nose pressed to the window when they hit the showrooms as new cars.

I had weirdness over in CCBA today too. My post didn't show up for hours and then appeared twice.  Wonder if it was because I posted from work.

My guess in your case is that your post finally showed up because I went to the spam filter and "approved" it for posting. Don't know why signing in from another location/IP would matter in your case @tjc78.

Dunno what could have happened there but the white 4-door is a '60 Ventura
