Andy, Fin - you are both there. Its from Israel and Autocars made this one - a Sabra Carmel 1200 from 1966 (actually the grand picture is 1965, but they made them for a few years).

I think the 1200 engine was from the Triumph Herald.

I didn't recognize it at first so I searched "Mini-based cars" on Wikipedia and came up with a much better picture
    .

I s'pose that's cheating but at least I knew it was Mini-based. I'll leave it for someone else to put the name to it.

This isn't made by the same people - although they are both Mini based.

    G'day

From the stance, definitely Mini based. Somewhere in this house I have book of 1960's kit cars, mostly Mini-based. This is an Ogle and reminds me of the Bloated Porsche in the Hobart MONA gallery.

The rego plate suggests mid 1960s but my wife has been trying to place the image from the haircuts, denim jacket and flares. Image is from about 1974 when every boy's jeans were too tight around the crotch and too wide at the ankles.

I was 16 that year and her insight is worryingly accurate. It is a mystery why we did not all end up sopranos.

    Cheers

    Graham

Yes, Andy's car is an Ogle 1000 and is Mini based.

Mine is a lot rarer but they did sell a few dozen and was made by a company that also made all-wheel drive conversions for trucks.

I always confuse the 57 and 58's. Looks like an upper level trim, maybe a Fleetwood? Neat colors back in those days.

    1958 Cadillac. "62".

doesn't look like it is fitting in that garage though!

    1958 Cadillac. "62".

Not sure about the model, some think it's a 1958 Cadillac Sedan DeVille.
There are lots of these single car garages in Queens NY where I grew up. They were designed to accommodate the cars of the 20s and 30s when the homes were built. Most have been converted to workshops or extra rooms since they're far too small to house a modern pickup or SUV.

There was something called an Extended Deck Sedan, a version of the Sedan deVille, but I don't know how to tell the difference.

I think your fastback Mini is a "Unipower". I remember seeing one in the first British car magazine I ever bought,"Classic and Sportscar", in 1988. I swear I have seen one in person somewhere, too.

Yes, Fin it's a Unipower - Mini-based and very low - I have seen one or two of these but they were always rare.

I have trouble with those late 70's and early 80's Chryslers. I'm sure Andre knows. But I think it is kind of a stately looking vehicle and the nice green color makes me guess latter 70's. It's a land barge, but you've got to remember the times.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
I am going to guess that's a Newport coupe from around 1975. An Andre dream car in that color with a not too pimpy top.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
    You're close Berri, it's a 1977 Chrysler Newport. (Ugh)

Well Andys, when Silicon Valley lobbyist money forces self driving cars down our throats, that Newport will make a nice highway ride while you read the paper :'(

That's a DeSoto Firesweep - 1957. It has a shorter trim on the door than the other models.

Not according to the seller. That said, I don't think the seller is quite right on his label. More shots:

Hmmm. One of those tricky exports.
I'll go with 1957 Plymouth Savoy/Desoto Diplomat Deluxe.

And, I'll submit my annual question of "Anyone going to the NY Auto Show next week?

Well, whatever it is it sure has the looks of that somewhat out there '59 Dodge.

    It's advertised as a 1958 Dodge Kingsman.

Here's the craigslist ad, and another one.

Dodge did have a Kingsway. I don't think the guy knows just what he has.

Scary thing. Did you see the home-made transmission mount with ONE BOLT?

Isn't that just a bracket to support the exhaust?
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,354
Odd duck. Once you started down that rabbit hole, gonna cost a fortune to get back out. I love the story in the 2nd ad, about it sitting up on a pole. And Camaro underpinnings?

Let us hope--you may be right. But usually you support the trans at the tail shaft. In any event, this looks like a "project" all right.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,354
Considering the engine, trans and front subframe don't belong to the car, you have to expect some amount of "custom fabrication" work.

Absolutely, but I wouldn't pay $18K for hillbilly fabrication.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,354
Roll it into a place like kindig, and I wonder how much $ to have it roll out with a crate hemi, sorted and safe undercarriage, and new interior? Keeping body same for that resto look. $50k? $25k without paint?

Ahaa, it is one of those tricky exports, the 1958 Canadian Dodge Kingsman.
Plymouth body, Dodge front end, and DeSoto trim.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Lesseee.....Hemi 426 crate engine ready to roll maybe $15K, fabrication, reinforcements, safety items for driveline...gee I dunno...maybe another $5K...then do you want brakes on that thing? What about modern fuel delivery system? Headers? Exhaust? Cooling system?

Yeah, maybe $35K-$40K would get you a reliable runner with decent interior. Show quality paint would be another $20K, and frame and suspension restoration--well, body comes off, so who knows....

All I see on the net are this seller's ads. Sure it's not a Kingsway?

  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,354
Knock some money off going with a rebuild on the 440 in it. That should be enough motor to putt around town in. Already got the 727 in it at least.

Probably easier to do what Andre did with his desoto. Jack the body off, roll the chassis out, take care of all the chassis and driveline stuff the easy way, and drop the body back on.

  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
I'd prefer the 440 over the 426. The 426 is a very ornery kind of engine.
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
    I've heard that many times
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,354
Oh I was thinking a modern one, not an old school 426.

Resto rod, here he comes! But man, the handling would take a LOT of work. Much harder to get that right than it is to drop in a big hp engine.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,354
Already has a Camaro front end in it that has to be a good start.

The right way is to have that frame rebuilt and re-inforced and to have a completely different differential set up, and modern rear suspension. You can't have everything twisting back there.

based on the pipes I assume a 289 Cobra circa 1964. Or is it a trick AC Ace?

Looks like an AC Ace but I don't know what's going on with those side pipes.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yup, it's a 1959 AC Ace Bristol wearing a bare aluminum finish. It's the car the small block Cobras were based on but it had a flat windshield and a slightly different nose.

    I assume the side-pipes were an after-market add-on.
