Pretty sure that's an Olds -- 1959? "Super 88 Fiesta"?
  • bhill2bhill2 Member Posts: 2,597
It's a '59 Olds Fiesta for sure. My guess, from the trim, that it is a Dynamic 88.

When I was a kid we had a family that went to our church who bought a loaded black '60 Olds wagon. Very sharp car, but they had a lot of electrical issues with it from the gitgo. One of our next door neighbors back then had a 59 Chevy wagon. It was midline, but I don't remember which model, maybe a Kingswood. Definitely not a Nomad, nor a stripper.

It's a 1959 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88. The ad on Bring a Trailer does not use the word "Fiesta". Perhaps some Olds-phile can tell us if the Fiesta name was still in use in1959, or for that matter exactly when the "Dynamic 88" name was used.

From the 1959 brochure, it looks like all wagons were called 'Fiesta'.
  • bhill2bhill2 Member Posts: 2,597
The Dynamic 88 name was first used in 1958. A little research shows that it was last used in 1966. In 1967 it changed to "Delmont 88".

I think I see a big Buick Electra (?) 6 window sedan in black, in the background, must be around 1963.
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
I have a hard time picking a 57 from a 58 Mercury from the rear, but I'm going to go with a 58. One year 58 Chevy wagon across the way.

It's hard to tell, in fact the site I took this from misidentified it as a '59. 57s didn't have that little spear projecting forward from the t/l housing so I'm sure it's a '57

Can't be a '59, the space between upper and lower fins is too narrow

Great call. It's hard to say what year but the chromes/stainless strip at door sills marks an Electra. Anyone guess the yellow Buick (Olds?) next to the Chevy wagon.or

Pic was taken in Scottsdale AZ; imagine not a pickup, SUV or high-dollar Euro in sight!

I'll go with its being a 1956 Buick.
I was at the NY Auto Show last Saturday. It was ok, nothing special this year. The new Camaro to Trans Am transformations were nice especially the Bandit edition but being old enough to remember the real Trans Ams, I'll take an old one.

I agree it's not a 59 Merc - those are rather unique looking
  • bhill2bhill2 Member Posts: 2,597
Has anyone taken a shot at the wagon beside the Merc?  I will bid '58 Buick, upper trim line.

I'm guessing the Buick next to red Chevy wagon is a 1955. I think I see
the protruding backup light at the vertex of the angle of the top and bottom
    light.
It's the shorter trunk so that's a Special?

    Yup, it;s a 1991 Lotus Elan M100, the only front-drive Lotus ever.

Far left we have a Bug and a '57 Chevy with an "Alcan" bug screen on the front end. Odd that there's no headlight protection though, unless there's plastic over the lens.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
I see Alberta plates, Banff then. I'll pick off the other 57 Chevy a right - lack of trim makes me think it is a 210 4 door HT, relatively rare car today. Looks like there's a 59 Ford driving away from the shot, seen near the bus.

My state allows nothing in front of the headlamps. Perhaps Alberta has a similar law.
I'll grab the 1962 Rambler American.
    The bus looks GMC.

I had a customer that owned one. Lived in a small town. Lost it going around a turn and slid backward into the ditch. About $25K in damage (in 1992).

We used to discuss cars a lot (go figure!). He said he had an original Elan in college, and couldn't pass up getting the new one. He thought the handling was amazing. Lotus can do magic with suspensions, but I never got to drive it, so not sure how they dialed out all of that FWD understeer.

Just a totally out-of-the-blue comment, but, Ford has supposedly accomplished the above with their new 2016 Ford Focus FWD ST. Incredible steering and handling and...power in to and back out of the turns.

Ahead of the Rambler is a 1960 Pontiac. In all fairness it's impossible to pin down the MY of a Rambler American or a VW Beetle but the Poncho is the newest identifiable MY car we can see.

You're right that it's hard to pin down the MY of the American, but that style was introduced in '61 so it has to be newer than the Poncho.

I'm thinking that grill may be a '63 American? Well, took a second, enlarged look and the bigger chrome rim around that grill probably means a 61 or 62.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,415
There's also a parked car directly behind the 57 Chevy with the deflector that appears to have a 61-62 GM A-pillar.

Maserati 3500GT, not worth a whole lot for a long time, now probably worth a bazillion or so, because over-monied speculators.
