Land Rover. Who knows what year (they all look alike). Model? Uh... An 80?

They may all look alike to you but LR nuts can tell at a glance what Series LR they are looking at and thereby the approximate vintage.

    I sure ain't a LR nut.

The defender is the new version, right? Weren't they called something else previously?

Actually, isn't the 80 just the SWB model Defender 9as opposed to the 110)?

Nice try but the Defender name wouldn't be applied to any Land Rover for around 30 years after the red one was made.

It's a 1969 Land Rover Series IIA 88 I think the "88" refers to the wheelbase. As do the 80 and 90.

    Alright already, it's a Kadett.
That's German for "cadet", as you might have guessed, from the time when their names were somewhat, uh, nautical. Or would "midshipman" fit better?
    Kadett, Kapitaen, Commodore, Admiral...

No "e" at the end, btw.

Buddy of mine's Mom had one of those, as a station wagon... that thing had a 4sp manual with a shifter that I swear was three feet long. Way cool car...

Ah, the Ford Contour of the European market. Was it supposed to compete with the Mondeo (Euro Contour) and VW Passat? Or, rather the Jaguar X-type, Audi A4 and BMW 3-series?

    - guess it doesn't matter anymore.

is that the new Sentra replacement, or something that will slot in under it (lit a Fit vs. a Civic)?

Resembles a Mazda 3 hatch somewhat, but I assume it is smaller.

2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.

  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
It's actually called the Versa, and I'm pretty sure it will be below the Sentra, allowing it to mode up to 3, Focus, Civic, Corolla territory. The Versa will compete with Accent, Rio, Yaris, and the upcoming Jazz and a possible Fiesta from Ford.
  • steine13steine13 Member Posts: 2,825
If they could only please, pretty please, stop stealing each others names. Versa is OK I guess, but the "Verso" is a people-mover name for Toyotas, i.e. Corolla Verso, Yaris Verso. It gets confusing for obsessed.

  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
Actually believe it or not the name Versa is actually "stolen". Maruti/Suzuki makes a small van called the Versa.
