1958 Oldsmobile. Did the Buick 58 have more chrome?

I'd say not quite, but you be the judge>>

I was looking at it but the reflections off the chrome blinded my eyes.

I think I read somewhere that the Olds had 88 lbs of chrome TRIM on it...just trim not bumpers, hubcaps, etc...

    What would Kong drive?

Late 80's Biuck Lesabre. I actually like the lines of that car. Very clean looking with nice proportions.

Sssshhh. Don't let them hear you two saying complimentary things about the styling of a GM car over the various "I hate GM cars" discussions. They attack with a vengeance.

The Park Avenue had a more upright C pillar and had a more formal appearance. That also looks nice--even compared to some cars today. Like the 300 and Avalon.

    That's about a '63 Buick LeSabre I believe....better looking than a new one

Better looking than the '86 LeSabre shown earlier as well and probably a lot more reliable. ;)

    Try this?

Didn't they first use the "cheesy" lettering in the '70s?

But, I have to agree... that definitely looks like the '84-'89 model Carrera... I don't remember any US models with lettering, though....

The cheesy side lettering orinated in the 70s as did the big bumpers and the whale tail. So you're looking at a '74 or '75 Porsche 911 Carrera RS (RS=Rennsport). The whale tail is from the '76 911/930 Turbo and was likely added later to replace the original ducktail spoiler.

Okay...About a 64 Plymouth Valiant Signet...Not sure if they were putting the little v-8 in it yet..Pretty little thang.
    Thanks Jack

Ya know... with that 81 on the windshield and the color of the thing, that sure looks a lot like the 81 Sentra I bought as my first new car!
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 266,751
That is what was throwing me off.... I was pretty darn sure it was a '70s Carrera, but that tail looks like it came off of an '84 or '85 Carrera....

Definitely an Isuzu, I want to say I-Mark. Here in NC I still see one of these at least once a week. Didn't they come as both a 3 door hatch and sedan?

You're off by a couple of years, but they didn't change Valiants much, it's a '66.

This one is a 1986 Chevy Spectrum, which was a rebadged Isuzu I-Mark. There was a 3-door hatchback which looked a LOT like the original Hyundai Excel hatchback.
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
Naah, that's too small to be a EuroFusion, and it's not even a Ford.

    Peugeot 404 pickup
  • bumpybumpy Member Posts: 4,425
It is a Kia Picanto (took me a little while to figure out what they call it). Kia's supermini (based on the Hyundai Getz), one size down from the Rio.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Yup it's a Pickup based on the 1970 Peug 404, Euro pickups of the era favored those canvas tents over the bed.

Check this out... A 273 V8 was an option in 1964, though. I have a reprint of a CAR and DRIVER article where they tested a hardtop Signet 200 coupe with the 273 and a 4-speed.

    Single-barrel carb
    8.8:1 compression ratio
    180bhp @4200 RPM
    torque- 260ft lbs@ 1600 RPM

    With a 2.93 rear end, 0-60 was 10 seconds flat. ;)
  • firemanjackfiremanjack Member Posts: 123
Thanks vibsr...vindication...hehe. I believe that little 273 was a de-stroked 318..Later on they put a 340 in these small Chrysler Products..They were pretty fast, I believe..

the red car is a circa 1970 Mercury comet GT. I like these, the badge engineered Mavrick (some ideas aren't that new)

The convert is an early 60s Buick. I'll guess '63 Lesabre, but that is a WAG. Does look like the vintage that Judge Reinholt drove in Fast Times.

And still popular judging by the CTS I saw last week
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
Bumpy gets it, 4510 is a Kia Picanto, a very small car.

What exactly is a carriage roof option. I see it on many mid 90s Crown Victorias and Grand Marquis.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,670
Close, it's a Fleetwood Brougham (remember those?)

Navi the carriage roof option is the goofy overlay that simulates a convertible top, it is much favored by older buyers but scorned by almost everyone under 70.

A couple of years ago GM forbade Cadillac dealers from offering it but that doesn't stop folks from adding it on in the aftermarket which I'm sure is thriving in places like Florida and Arizona.

A Caddy or Grand Marquis with the Carriage Roof
w Landau Irons, Whitewalls, fake wires and faux trunk-mount spare is known as a "Full-Florida" :P
