I always get these latter 60's Buick's mixed up, but I'll guess 67 Wildcat.
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,136
    I think it's a little older- '65 Wildcat?

Yep, '66. The 67s had this weird sculptured line down the sides.

That is indeed a 1965 Buick Wildcat convertible. I'm not a big fan of land yachts but I had occasion to drive similar cars back in the day and there is something special about them.

It beats me why Buick, with great names like Wildcat, Riviera, Invicta and Roadmaster in their stable, uses dopey names like Verrano, Regal and Enclave nowadays.

That hood ornament + no circular nose "badge" on the grille = '66.

I agree. Some cars, especially the special unaffordable models motorweek or the mags test that I can't afford, have names that choke a horse--SExMtiSkybluMAndrogen, e.g.. Only $450,000 and a limited edition of 3 of them are being built and they're all already sold. LOL

Shifty, I thought you, of all people would know that '66 Alfa sedans were the boxy Giulias which were quite different from the delicate Giuliettas>

Giulias of that era were the cop cars in nearly every Italian film classic and thus perhaps the most recognizable Alfa berlinas from the company that pioneered the modern compact sport sedan.

The aforementioned '68 Datsun 411 Bluebird sold for only $3,000 at auction in Oklahoma City, OK, in the early summer of 2016. Would've loved to have poached this pup for my 2nd car, car hounds. That was the best specimen of its type I've spotted in person, in print, or online, anywhere.

You guys are close but I'm thinking of a particular model.

HINT: Top Gear presenter, Richard Hammond once said of this car: "I'll guarantee that nothing exciting, vibrant, dynamic, new, creative, hopeful, or beneficial in any way to humanity has ever been done, thought of, or driven to in this drab, dreary, entirely beige, willfully awful pile of misery".

Oh, no....no genuine car lover would say mean things like that about an MGB! MGBs are fine little cars.

OK---it's a chopped Austin Marina, 1971 model. (see edit/correction in my next post).
  • texasestexases Member Posts: 11,136
A pretty new one, subject of debate in another forum. I have no idea:

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,537
I don't know if the faux RR is a Marina. That A-pillar sure looks like a BMC 1100 to me.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Good eye! I just used the label from the website I found it on, but as I look at it more closely, I think it's an Austin America. So it would be a kind of re-badged Austin 1300 2-door. 1971.

Sorry, didn't mean it to be mean. I just thought the rear fender looked a little like an MGB.

That's what the other guy guessed. But I can't read the name plate on the front. I'm thinking some people mover   Wheels look too small for an xB

Since Daihatsu is owned by Toyota, it's an xB that was left in the dryer too long.

The converted BMC is probably an 1100/1300 but the proportions look wrong somehow. The rear wings are 1100/1300 mk II but the front end looks a bit too low relative to the windscreen.

The blue car is not from Rootes / Chrysler - try another US company based here...

Blue car is a Ford Cortina ca. 1965 or so.

  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
    Yep, '62.

Here's one that might cause some head-scratching:

  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,674
My first thought was that it was some variant of Kurtis Kraft roadster like this one>

Then I noticed the Volkswagen wheels! There were probably dozens of obscure VW kit cars that would enable you to make your ugly slow Beetle look like a swoop front engine sports roadster. All of them earned their obscurity.

    2001 BMW 330ci/E46, 2008 BMW 335i conv/E93

I was thinking VW-based, until I saw the exhaust pipe in front of the rear wheel - decorative?
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Not a kit car but some were sold as kits. A few dozen or so were built as factory cars, so it's not a one-off either.

And no, not VW powered. Various engines were used, and as far as I know, they were V-8s of one sort or another.

The car is actually associated with some rich automotive history and it commands a certain respect in collector car circles.
