    stickguy - was your hospital experience:
    a) Annoying as all get out
    b) Tolerable but not much fun
    c) Absolutely awful and never want a repeat of it
    d) Glad I survived the stay and I give the ICU team really good grades overall 

    Probably never forget it, huh?

    G'day

    That is a CL model Chrysler Valiant Ute from 1977 in Sundance Yellow. Very robust beasts, they are seen daily here and far more so in South Australia, where they were built. This one is registered on Victorian plates.

    Early Valiant utes were called Wayfarers, I seem to remember.

    There's a car toward the far left, oncoming lane, middle, might be the oldest - looks like a 41 Dodge. There's another just-prewar style car in front of it, one lane over, but I can't place it - reminds me of a 42 or 46-8 Mercury, but somehow doesn't look big enough. I also see a Metropolitan convertible in the "going" lane, far right.

    Good call on the old Dodge, looks like a '46 or so.



    The other split window sedan near it might be a '46-'48 Ford (or a Merc).

    Odd that the Metropolitan is the only import, considering it's the SF area and VWs, MGs, Renaults and the like were becoming popular by the late 50s. ...Oh wait, I can just make out a tiny subocompact in the going lane near the road sign-can't make out what it is but it doesn't look like a Beetle or Dauphine.

    Well that's not a bad guess, but the vehicle pictured is a forerunner of the Fuego, the latter produced 1980-1992. This is a 70s car.

    I couldn't remember the name of the car that preceeded the Fuego. I had to look it up, it was the Renault 15/17.

    They really are little jewels, and they drive so well. It's almost the perfect car, really. Beautifully built, very roomy inside. All you'd need is a Be Cool custom radiator, a 12V Optima battery, and a little attention to wiring (Italians had a habit of not protecting wires as they ran them through firewalls or along frame rails) and you'd have a car for life!

    It could be a '59 Merc but it's hard to say but the tailights look too small to me>

    Since it's hard to say I'll tell you that 1959 is in fact the year of the photo and there is another car readily identifiable as a '59. Can anyone see it?

    The big difference on 58 vs 59 is the rear bumper on a 58 has two loops, the 59 is one big loop. The 59 I think I see (to the R of a 58 Chevy) appears to have one loop.

    Like those Merc and Imperials shots. The 59 Mercury was pretty bold styling on the heels of Edsel. I kind of like it though, very unique.
