Well yeah, that was the point...to show what the Plymouth version looked like. What do you think? Same as the mystery car that was posted?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
It's exactly the same, so I went looking at Dodges to see if they were different and I found this-

It's exactly the same except for the D-O-D-G-E. Since having the brand name on the back was normal practice I wondered if they were left off the Plymouths and I found some that did
say Plymouth on the back, some did not. So we just can't tell what it is.

    The DeSoto was different-

Yup, there's no upright bumper guards as on your Plymouth. Could those have been optional? If they were not the Patrol wagon was a Plymouth (also has uprights).

Between the two I would say Plymouth, but I am puzzled by the tail lights. On both the Plymouth and the Dodge, the bottom of the tail lights is squared off. It doesn't look like that on the mystery car.

Slight difference in the t/l shape could be a change from one MY to another but i gotta say those taillights all look the same to me.

Yeah, you're right, and it can even vary from model to model. They just look a little different to me. But I'm fresh out of credible explanations.

Oh man. That's got Jag written all over it. I'm not certain of the model, so I'll take a WAG at Mk. VIII.

    E-Type, 1969-70 ish.

HMN sez it's a 1968 E-Type. Forsome reason there were a small number of '68 E-Types that retained the smaller bumpers and glassed-in headlights of earlier ('61-'67) Series 1 cars. They are known as Series 1-1/2 cars. I'm guessing it has todo with actual production dates.

What happened with the Buick? was I right? I get the model names mixed up around that time since they seemed to have been called like 6 different things.

Fiat 128. I don't know enough to pinpoint a year, but in the '70s somewhere. haha.

Kind of interesting to me that it looks a bit like a number of '80s cars from the likes of bimmer and nissan. If it weren't for the chrome bumpers, I could have said it was from the '80s.

This looks quite late for a Fiat 128 - is it the Zastava run off model - was that the Zastava 128 or did it have a different name for that market? They did a 513 at one stage which used the same body shell I think.

It's a 1973 Fiat 128 Rally, the nifty wheels are optional Cromodoras.

You had the wrong model, it was a 1952 Buick Roadmaster h/t.

I'm not sure if they'd have put 4 Ventiports on any other model.

I thought 4 ports meant 8 cyl and 3 was 6 cyl. Or was that only a more recent thing?

Not in 1952. They did put 4 of them on the Super in the mid-50s.

1963 I think, no pods on the fins. I think this should have stylized "Imperial" script on the front quarter panel.

An interesting story about that car........The "LeBaron Coachwork" badge at the bottom of the C pillar contained real gold. Because of those badges, Chrysler had to pay an excise tax on them.

#49 ran in 1964 but not in 196. Drivers were Bo Ljungfeldt & Fergus Sager. They did extremely well but incurred lots of penalties. I think they ran 8 cars that year. Not sure why your pic doesn't show the driving lights on it. Probably the car in a later configuration after it was retired. I think it stayed in Europe.

Here's the car racing in 1964:

    '63 Ford Falcon Futura.

It's a '64 Falcon Futura Sprint. The Sprint versions used the 260 CID version of the "Fairlane" V8 that was also used in early Mustangs and Cobras.

Big 60 Ford 2 door sedan in front lower middle, probably a basic Fairlane, maybe the newest car in the pic.

I think there is another 60 Ford across from the school busses between a 58 Plymouth and a 58 Edsel. Also a 59 Chevy next to the 60 Ford you picked out.
