Borgwards are like stray cats. If you have one, people bring you more of them.

The cars in this shot all seem to be either late 50s or MY 1960. I see a two tone Olds on the right that's a '57 or '58 and the tail of a similar vintage Buick in the left hand row. Anyone see a pre 1957 car here?

The resolution of my display isn't good enough to be sure, but the tail light of the Falcon behind the '59 Ranchero looks like it's a later model than '60. I don't see any other cars later than '60.

I can't see much of that Falcon but I guess you're referring to the fact that it's tailight might have a more prominent chrome ring as did '61-'63 Falcons. It's a very slender reed but it's possible that the Falcon is post 1960.

Yes. The center of the tailight also seems to protrude further than the bullet on the '60s.

The Crown Coach Corporation school buses may be pre 1957.

I know, this isn't Mystery Bus Pix.

Nonetheless, it's a good point. The ones I was riding in '60 sure as hell weren't new.

Ah, I see the other 60 Ford now. Looks like maybe a Fairlane rear window.

re: Borgward - they must have been somewhat sturdy, there seems to be quite a few of them around, maybe not on the road, but they are out there.
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Borgward was a well-built car. I don't think the company was run very well, and the styling was always an acquired taste. BMW was also in financial trouble at this time, but it was fortunate enough to find the Quandt family among its shareholders.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,673
Yeah, apparently Daimler-Benz might have acquired BMW if the Quandts hadn't decided to turn them down.

The spoiler was probably an option so it can fake you out I suppose into thinking it is the STE sport version.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,528
Maybe the equivalent of a Cutlass Ciera "International Series".

There was no 6000STE in 1990 (there was in '88 and '89). This particular Pontiac 6000SE had the optional all-wheel drive.

IIRC it was neither "Euro" nor very "Sport".

It was a thing, although I don't recall ever seeing one in person. A quick google reveals a few survivors, and a couple junkyard finds.

    Brookwood?
  • bhill2bhill2 Member Posts: 2,605
Surely not the Brookwood (that was the bottom trim line). Actually, I think it's a Nomad (top of the line)

I had never heard of that Eurosport but of course even the base car wasn't sold here let alone the various special editions or whatever...
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
Did they also offer a Kingswood and a Parkwood station wagon on the Bel Air model in 1960? I just thought the trim on the rear wing looks less lavish than that on the Nomad, but given the front wing has trim more like an Impala than a BelAir I'm probably wrong..

Yup, it's a 1960 Chevy Nomad. The Nomad name was associated with the cool 2door hardtop wagon versions of the Tri-Chevies ('55-'57) but from '58-'61 it was applied to 4door top line wagons.

Huh, I've never heard of this car before. Usually not a fan of wagons, but this one doesn't look too bad. Classic cars like this are just cool.

Sharp observation. Indeed they did. Both were the Bel Air trim level. The Parkwood was a 6 passenger and the Kingswood added a rear-facing third seat to make it a 9 passenger.

Yeah, it's kind of an easy one but it looks so good, I figured I'd put it up. It's a late 158 S2 BMW507 with the optional factory (removable) hard top and the sporty optional (Rudge?) wheels w knockoffs instead of the wheel covers. I'm not sure if they are actual knockoffs or just bolted on pretend spinners.

Yes.. it's beautiful. I'd guess a million dollar car might have real knock-offs.

    I'll grab the 1952 Studebaker.
The convertible that year was used as the 1952 Indy 500 pace car.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,528
    A few fun things there.

I'll pick off the MGTD at the bottom of the pic, 59 Ford wagon in lower spec trim just in front of it, and a 59 Cadillac convertible just rounding the corner onto the cross street heading away from the camera to the left. Also heading away from the camera further up the street looks like a XK120/140 roadster. Newest car might be a Corvair coupe at far left on the cross street.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
Is the car on the right a 1959 Dodge - in which case I am guessing the intermediate line, the Royal Lancer?
  • tmarttmart Member Posts: 2,403
I'll take the 56 Ford Customline and 60 Tbird.
