White on white, must be a very late run car.

Can't live with skirts on one that new. Even on gussied up 50s ones, they are a bit much.

Any guesses on that special edition white VW? Production run of only 1,000, and yes, all the mods are factory.

    I'm shocked....SHOCKED that a VW will stump you. B)

Fox body 5.0 Mustang, of course. Another one of those vehicles I will never understand the fascination with.

Is that a first year? 79? I'm looking for pics to confirm and finding different styled taillights.

Nope , 89 was one of the last years for that particular style.

That pretty much sums it up. I bought a second hand '86 Mustang GT Convertible/5 Speed
and had a good time driving it for a dozen yrs or so. It had its flaws ( chintzy interior fittings, hard ride, weak clutch, eventually replaced w Ford Motorsport item that was much better) but it was generally reliable. I'm toying w the idea of buying a new GT convertible.

I test drove one in 86 or 87. Was quite the hoot, especially compared to the 62HP Colt I was driving at the time.

Wasn't the 5.0 LX Coupe like shown the fastest (lightest) model at the time?

Saw a newer 5.0 Stang today with a vanity plate "14 KYOTE".... spelled wrong but cool tag.

Not exactly, the "double bubble" roof was a signature of Carrozzeria Zagato but this one is so small that it was a neccesity to clear one's head, hemeted or not.

Shifty, do you wanna tell the folks what the little red car is?

I remember my reaction to the first one I saw many yrs ago. I thought that's one of the coolest cars ever and I still think so.

    Yeah, sure.

It's a 750 Fiat Abarth Zagato "Double Bubble". If you want to be insufferably knowledgable at Cars n Coffee, you will pronounce it "a-BART", which will be your ace in the hole when another insufferable car nerd says "A-bart". And if someone beats you to the correct pronunciation of "Abarth", you can crush them by reminding them that "Double Bubble" is not the car's real name.

The real name is "Fiat Abarth 750 GT Derivizione Coupe Zagato".

As the name implies, this was a 3-way team effort.

Most of the ones you'll see are Series III cars. Series 1 & II are quite rare and worth double the price of a Series III, and were made 55-57.

So I'd guess this one pictured is a 1958-59.

Estimates are about 500-600 total production of all Series.

PS: These cars were seriously raced from the get-go, so that's probably where the helmet story comes from. A 6-footer can be quite comfortable in one of these. Remarkably beautiful and efficient little car.

  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,675

    The pictured car was a 1957 model, here's a better pic>.

Curious as to why the earlier cars are now worth more? Don't the later ones have disc brakes?

I'm not exactly sure. I know the early ones had a shorter nose and open headlights, but I suspect they were more "pure" race cars in the early days.

I gotta be honest. My eyes bounced harmlessly off the Fiat and went to the Mark II behind it.

I get that, I'm a huge fan of the MKII Jag sedan but in real life I think the Abarth might get your attention with it's tiny size and racy styling. They're a very rare sight, you might see 50 of the Jags before seeing an Abarth 750. I don't think I've seen one in 25 years.

Due to overwhelming response, I am forced to reveal that that white VW Super Beetle convertible was a 1976 "Bicentennial Edition". Every VW dealer got one of them to sell, and they came equipped with things like special trim, console, rosewood dash, flare horns, white on white, and other silly things. They are worth a fair amount today.

I had no idea they made a Bicentennial Edition. It kind of pales in comparison to this:

When I was a teenager, I went to an estate sale where there was a "Spirit of America" 74 Impala 2 door HT. White on white with red and blue stripes, and badging. It was in really decent shape, and they wanted $1500 for it, I think. Would have been a deal. I've never seen another. It was like this:

Those look kind of like Mopar wheels.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,558
The one I saw had those wheels, too. This would have been around 1994-95, I wonder if it is still around.

Certainly pales in size and weight, but the VW is probably worth more.

They even made a Bicentennial Westphalia.

and is that a white Rambler wagon next to the building, in front of the black Lincoln?

Yep, that's a Rambler. This pic is from the middle of the design metamorphosis away from fins and wraparound glass.

I'll pick off the white 61 Ford Galaxie "Town Victoria" 4 door HT at front center.

Did they have Matadors in 1960? I was thinking Polara. I never appreciated those in the day
but now i think it's one of the best, most expressive of the Forward Look cars especially in the two-door H/T form.

Yup, and I think the oldest is the '55 Chevy. The pointy rear fenders on that Olds convertible behind the '60 Dodge make it a '61. It's funny how practically every car is MY '60/'61 or '62.
