Looks like '57 is the newest car?
  • lostwrench1lostwrench1 Member Posts: 1,165
.........there is the matter of the side trim. On the '53, the side trim is wider at its front end. On the '54, the width does not increase at the front end. The front end of the side trim in the photo does not appear to be wider so I'll put two chips on its being a '54.

Easily the rarest car is the black Willys Aero parked to the left of the building. Next to it a MoPar from the '49-'52 gen, then a '53/'54 Chevy H/T, a '55 Chrysler, a Willys All-Steel and
off to the right a '56 Chevy.

There is a Studebaker parked two across from the 54 Ford wagon - turret type three piece back window so is that a Commander - late 40s-51?

Is the car between them a Dodge ?

The Studebaker looked like it was the front end of a car until I enlarged the picture more. A characteristic of that era Studie.

There is also a very old car at their end of the main row of cars - above the further of the two old Pontiacs. That looks even older than them to me.

I see it, a dark colored car parked beside what looks like a light colored Buick. Looks like a just-prewar car, not a Ford. I think both Mopar and GM had some cars with that trunk profile in 38-40.

The car is an Imperial coupe. Hard to nail down the year exactly, I'll say a '58.

    The wheel covers are '57.

Loved the looks on that car design and the dashboard too! But I also loved the Chrysler 300 of the same era. No sense worrying since I didn't win a lotto.

It might not be a 2-dr Coupe. Chrysler styling did a great job of "hiding" that rear door, the angle of the photo makes it impossible to tell how many doors it has.

The car in the photo is a 1957 Imperial Crown Southampton.

Now that four doors are de rigeur on everything from compact hatches to pick up trucks it's amusing to recall that there was a time when a significant number of full-sized sedans w only 2 doors. B)

Heck, even a 2 door sedan with a post between the windows was a negative back then.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,537
I think the Imperial is definitely a coupe. Nice color, too.

A friend of mine just bought a green on green Lincoln, so there are some odd ones out there. Blue interiors seem to have vanished, however. Most of the unusual colors that aren't loud for the sake of loud seem to be on premium brands.

That blue Imperial would look right paired up with the fintail:

After your post in the other forum I was looking for a picture of that interior and couldn't find one.

I just looked on the Lincoln site - I don't see something called "green" (I was going by his words), but there is a "jade grey", I suspect that's what it really is. A gray-green, I guess.

    OK, I'll take a flyer and say it's a '50s Fiat 1100. I note that it's right-hand steering, but I'll guess it's an export model.

Yup, that's a Fiat Nuovo 1100TV/103. The TV (Turismo Veloce) with its center-mounted extra lamp was the sportier version of the Nuovo Millicento introduced in 1953. It was a pioneer in that it was the first factory tuned version of a popular sedan offered by a Euro maker.

The 1100/103, an updated version of a prewar model (new body, old engine) was one of Fiat's most successful cars. It was made under license all over the world and versions stayed in production until 1969.

If someone painted the interior, he's in deep trouble :)

This is the color of his car (not the actual car, from a google search):

    gray-green. I like it.
  • berriberri Member Posts: 10,165
Does look decent in picture, but I'd want to see it in the sun. Back in the latter 60's Ford had a bit greener sort of silver green on its Mustangs that looked sharp with a black vinyl roof (and I'm generally not all that fond of vinyl roofs).

Premier Automobiles in India sold the imported Fiat 1100 in large numbers - the one with the central spotlight was known as the Excellent. This car appears to have an Indian numberplate so is presumably one of those. It also explains the RHD.

The subsequent version of the 1100 was assembled under licence in India and production of the late versions only ended a couple of years ago...

I believe those Indian Millecentos were widely used as taxis in India, some may still be. I thik they were called Padminis.

This Premier Padmini taxi wears the body style of the Fiat 1100D, one of the late variants of the long-lived Millicentos.

Yup, a 'Cuda for sure but from 1964, the first year of production. The Barracuda was actually introduced April 1 1964, a few weeks before the Mustang (April 17) but the homely bubblebacks were certainly no threat to the first Gen. Mustang.

So... this beauty is an MG Magnette - a ZB Varitone Magnette to be exact! This one is also very nicely converted for wire wheels, though they didn't originally come that way. This would have been the British equivalent of a 5 series BMW in its' day (1954-1958), with a dual carb 1500 and rack & pinion steering, decent (for their day) brakes and the nimble handling that MG is known for to go along with the posh wool, leather and walnut interior.
