I guess it is a personal taste. Out of that list, I definitely would go with the RX330, followed by the BMW, with a distant third being (I can't believe I'm saying this) the Pontiac Torrent.
The Buick looks like it has the same radio found in my grandmother's 20-year-old Oldsmobile. I don't really care for the mass of aluminum in the Ford and the "old-school" radio and climate control displays. The center console just doesn't look integrated with the rest of the car. It's like they picked out the shape and cut a large rectangle to install their "truck based" radio head units.
I currently drive a VW and for a car that is relatively inexpensive, the interior is done fairly well (soft plastics with texture with a center console that looks like it was designed for the car).
I'll have to wait until I see it in person. It's not a deal killer for me, but something to consider. The Murano is high on my list, but I don't like instrument display (maybe I'm too picky).
Here are some more.

I think they should have put more money in the stereo design instead of the headliner. It looks like they use the same stereo on practically every car too. It looks like it can display a limited number of characters compared to most modern day stereos. I'm curious to see how the MP3 player/audio input jack interfaces with the radio. I'm guessing you either need to get the navigation system for the display of song titles and other info, or operate your MP3 player "blind".

Hyundai Santa Fe Radio
I used to own a '94 Mustang, and I replaced the stereo with a 3rd party unit within a month of purchasing the car (I didn't need to do the same with the VW).
The audio jack will be in the center console.

So far I've been impressed. Mine has the piano black trim. The materials and controls are solid - no squeaks or rattles or ergonomic problems. I'd classify it as simple and elegant but very functional and comfortable. Best interior I've ever seen in a Ford.

Could you imagine owning a Ford, mastering the radio then buying a second ford that had a different radio for you to learn how to use? ARUGH!
Now Ford should definately get its butt in gear as far as providing Sirius and MP3/Aux Jacks. Its inexcusable not to offer Sirius in ALL MODELS!
Mark.
Actually, I'd prefer they offer XM.
First, XM has commercials,
Second, Sirius is a higher quality digital signal, the same as comparing an FM radio to a CD.
Mark.
Shouldn't be THAT difficult to provide head units that are both XM And Sirius CAPABLE/READY. Then you just have to later buy the actual Sirius/XM RECEIVER to hook up to the head unit.
Heck, you could even provide two Aux-INs on the radio, so a person could buy BOTH receivers if he wanted to do so. That way, he could listen to both Stern AND Oprah. :surprise:
If you want to focus on XM and/or Sirius, we've got a topic dedicated to those two offerings:
XM & Sirius Satellite Radio
Thanks!

It was a great time to introduce the 3.5 V6 (should be in the 500) and a great time for the 6sp auto.
The Edge is an "image" vehicle. It says "I'm above an Escape. I'm like the Murano and RX330 and my cousin is a Lincoln."
The Freeestyle is the practical one for families and those who need cargo space. The Edge is all about image.
Mark.
Unfortunately, they didn't have a model on the floor to get an up close look. I did however sit in just about every SUV/CUV/wagon at the show, and I am sorry to say that I found the Ford/Mercury interiors among the worse. Too much hard and cheap plastic, especially around the interior door handles and console. The only Ford interior I found attractive was the Fusion and that was with the piano black accents, which seem to work well.
I even found the Envoy Denali and Jeep Grand Cherokee interiors to be better (although the Chrysler Pacifica interior was awful). The Toyota Highlander and Nissan Murano interiors were slightly better in terms of looks, but I definitely had the impression that those vehicles utilized higher quality interior materials (the forest of wood in the Highlander Limited and the gauge cluster on the Murano I found particularly offensive, though).
Anyway, styling is definitely something of a personal preference, but I think if Ford has aspirations of the Edge going into the low- to mid-$30s, they will need to do better with the interior. They should borrow some cues from their Volvo division which had nice tasteful and understated (unlike the Lincoln) interiors.
----------------------------------
If it's in the low to mid 30s, count me out. I want to see the base at 25K and loaded models under 30k. Ford has a winner here. I hope they don't screw it up with pricing.
If it's over 30k, I'll look elsewhere.

Up and Coming -> Ford Edge -> Build Your Edge
Base price: $25,940
Here is the small print on the site:
*Prices are for survey purposes only and are not official pricing. Prices may vary from visit to visit and will change before the Edge is launched this fall.
Even at $25k the prices climb into the $30s easily.
An MKX should start there and go up to 36-37k.
This has the potential to be a winner, don't price it out of the market.
I really really hope that Ford puts a realistic price that is not expected to have rebates thrown at it.
Now a days rebates really suck. People will do head to head comparaisons on websites like Edmunds which will list MSRP and Invoice but not always rebate. Look at the Cobalt vs. the Focus.
The Cobalt looks cheaper until you throw in the $3k rebate currently available on the Focus. But think of all the people who just disconsider the Focus right off the bat because of the misperception that the Focus is more Expensive.
It seems to me that the people in the car market right now based on who is coming into my showroom are replacing worn out vehicles that are old and paid off. So the rebate really isn't as necessary to soak up negative equity.
Mark.
I like being able to listen to MUSIC all the time, without the commercials.
Needless to say, I'm still not totally sold on it, but at least now I'll consider adding satellite radio to my next car.
I became convinced when I had a rental car that had it. I didn't even know it had it. Found out by mistake when I was switching "bands" and it went from FM to AM to XM.
Strange how the next time I had a loaner car, it didn't have XM Radio. (I had a 2005 model without XM vs. a 2004 model with XM)
This means that logically the Ford Edge pricing has to be closer to $24K entry than $27K. At $27K, you add like three packages and features and you are at the Lincoln price that comes well equiped.
It should be able to handle dirt and/or gravel roads.

I've also heard that the Edge is besting the Murano quite easily at Ford's test facility.
This is good news and exactly what Ford needs right now.
Of course we still got the Murano because my wife wouldn't wait.
