How much do updated disks for navigation systems cost? How often are they released?

That's assuming you buy the built-in NAV system ;) A decent aftermarket GPS is probably $500, so a much better deal. Of course you might get wires running all over the place, which I don't like.

If you keep the car only 5 years, then Onstar might start making sense: 5 X 300 = $1500, which is still cheaper than buying the built-in NAV, if all you want is turn by turn and don't care about maps or rear-view camera. If you keep it 10 years like I do, that's $3000, and that starts to hurt. Of course that's assuming Onstar prices stay the same. In the Acadia I believe you get 2 free DVD updates, otherwise they do rip you off.

You can make phone calls with OnStar...hands free. The speaker portion uses the radio speakers; the microphone is usually on the roof above the rear-view mirror, in the vicinity of the accuation buttons.

You sure can, however the price-gouging is another reason you'd want to use bluetooth and your own cellphone: OnStar prices being at $14 for 30 minutes. *cough* rip-off! *cough*

You could always link your Verizon cellphone to the OnStar service, but then the Verizon coverage map would apply, and thus this wouldn't be any more reliable than a regular Verizon cellphone. Of course I would assume that linking another phone to your family plan would cost you the typical $10/month, which you could avoid by using your existing phone with bluetooth!!!

    lwolf99,

Are you sure about the back up camera and where did you get this info? I was told by GM that info on the 08 Acadia would be available on 4/30. I guess I'm searching to early in the morning its 303 am here. :shades: I had leaned toward the Buick but I'm beginning to lean back over to the Acadia.

Whats the big deal about bluetooth? I don't want my conversation being blasted through the speaker system of my car. Especially if the children are in the car. I prefer to use a headset/earpiece. Invest in a good one and you shouldn't have any problem minus the drop calls from some of these lousy cell phone companies not to mention the hidden roaming fees attached to some phones. Hey, ONStar might not be so bad when you think about it.

The Buick website is now letting you build & price your enclave. As I'm waiting to see & drive the Enclave in person (thinking the Outlook over the Acadia, prefer the wood to the chrome), I was shocked to see that the Encalve will not be offered in black. I've always preferred black vehicles (personally think a black car looks the best when clean), with the darkest option being the fugly Ming Blue Metallic. Only option left for me that I like is the Cocoa. Anyone else surprised a classic color like black is left off as an option?

    mss42,

I test drove a 2007 Acadia on Friday night. Salesman said there was no option for backup camera - just the sensors. I saw the camera myself on the Enclave on display at the Pittsburgh autoshow. Perform working the show confirmed Enclave will have backup camera.

Check out this link and then click on "New for 2008". It shows backup camera as an option and the rear console as an option (August 2007).

TYYYYYYYYYYYYYY Iwolf99...I think I'm going this way. I did like the Enclave w/all the wood trim. I am so glad to hear that the Acadia is coming w/the back up camera.
  • hardhawkhardhawk Member Posts: 702
The Acadia will be offered in the new Carbon Black color for 2008. My dealer tells me it is a black metallic that is darker than the Carbon Metallic that was on the 2007's.

I just bought my new Enclave last week, and I LOVE it. It is the quietest car I have ever owned. Handling is VERY responsive. Smooth on all types of roads. VERY please, especially since it is my first GM car. (I have owned Honda, Toyota, Ford & Chrysler.)

Would make a few changes on interior if anyone at GM asked my opinion, but nothing to discourage me from recommending this car or purchasing another one.

Should be trickling into dealerships now -- so keep your eyes open. My dealer said he has 5 coming, but they are all already sold.
  • kaisenkaisen Member Posts: 1
OnStar already uses Verizon's towers. Please note that your handheld cell phone is 0.6 watts where OnStar is powered at 3 watts. Therefore, it has 5 times the transmit / receive power than your handheld using Bluetooth.

And you still have to dial your handheld, which requires you to look at your phone. Very few Bluetooth phones are (truly) voice activated and fewer have good voice recognition. Try dialing with OnStar, it is simple speech and works great.
  • kcoreykcorey Member Posts: 130
I saw on a website (which one escapes me right now) that the Enclave would be offered in Black and Carbon Metallic, this will be additional colors.
  • jason330ijason330i Member Posts: 35
    kenclave,

what interior changes would you make?

    just curious.
  • kenclavekenclave Member Posts: 2
I think there are aspects of the interior that seem cheap -- for a vehicle that is so nice.

*I wished there was more woodtone on the panel which houses the radio unit. The dash was designed so beautifully, as was the armrest console, but the area the radio is located in is just plain Jane.
*The sunscreen for the rear sunroof is power, but the one over the driver is opened and closed by hand (and it is a bit tricky to open because you think you should pull back on it, but really you need to push straight up to lift it over what I think is a plastic lip -- I wonder if this will ever break).
*The floor mats seem VERY cheap. In part I am comparing to my Town & Country (which is what I traded in). My T&C was purchased 7 years ago at about the same price point. It had very nice, thick, stitched-finished edged floor mats. The ones in the Enclave -- I wonder how they are going to hold up.
*No good spot to store CDs. Maybe the thought is with the MP3 plug in, people will be carting around less CDs.
*If I plug in my cell phone, the plug blocks a cup holder. There is another plug in the armrest, but you have to move the armrest, then lift out a tray, putting the cell phone inconveniently out of reach.

ALLLLL that being said, I really do love the vehicle. It just surprises me that for what I would consider the high-end of the Lambda platform, that GM went seemed to go cheap on some of the details. The price point of the Enclave is about the same as the Acadia. I would have been willing to pay $1,000-$1,500 more for a few additional classy touches.

    Wolf,

Do you know when we are going to be able to begin ordering the 08 Acadia? :surprise:
  • kcoreykcorey Member Posts: 130
Congratulations and best of luck...you make me sooo jealous. The dealers here in New York City know nothing about the Enclave. I guess I'll be going to New Jersey. Anyway, best of luck!
  • newz54newz54 Member Posts: 30
If the enclave has the same armrest/center console as the acadia.....I plug in my cellphone under the armrest, then snake the cable to the front, replace the plastic try insert....plug in your phone and drop it into the first cup. Cable is mostly out of the way.
  • carcom2carcom2 Member Posts: 212
Good luck with your new Enclave. I was wondering if the sunscreen material is similar to the Acadia's? Is is that thin fabric or a solid shade like on most cars? WIll it keep the sun out?

I still also have an interest in seeing the 2008 T&C. Since you traded a T&C in, I was wondering if you happened to have seen the 2008 T&C at a car show. I would appreciate your thoughts if not on this forum, the 2008 T&C forum.
  • zman3zman3 Member Posts: 857
I just got my Enclave today. The cover on the front sunroof appears to be identical to that of the Acadia.
  • lwolf99lwolf99 Member Posts: 83
    kenclave and zman3,

Congrats on your new Enclave purchases. I hope some dealers in Pittsburgh get some in May. I really want to drive one!!
  • nxs138nxs138 Member Posts: 481
I practically never dial my cellphone; every contact is voice activated, and my bluetooth headset rarely screws up my voice recognition--so I don't see how Bluetooth is a problem for voice recognition. Now you'll probably tell me that in a car it's a different situation with a microphone, yet many salesman at my company have bluetooth in their cars and never have issues with the handheld they use.

Not saying OnStar isn't good; you'll just pay for it dearly.
  • lwolf99lwolf99 Member Posts: 83
    mss42,

I don't mean to sound like the Bluetooth salesman. It is just something that seems like a really great idea. I know 3 people that have it, and they absoltely love it.

For some background in my thinking.... I do a fair amount of talking on my phone while driving. Right now, I used a bluetooth enabled earpiece. I need to take my hands off the steering wheel in order to press and hold a button on the earpiece in order to answer an incoming call. Then typically, I end up taking my hands off the steering wheel in order to turn off the radio for the call. Then after the call, turn the radio back on again.

Being able to simply press a button on the steering wheel to answer an incoming call, having the radio muted automaically, then un-muted again after the call - all without ever taking my hands of the wheel, just "feels" safer to me.

Someone had mentioned to me something about using Onstar as a phone, with Verizon as the carrier. I do have a Verizon account, but it is thru my business, and Family Sharing plan is not available. Also, I really don't want to have to have a seperate phone number for my car.

All this just adds up to me "wanting" bluetooth to connect to my regular phone in whatever vehicle I choose. I tried it while test driving a Mazda CX9, and it felt really good - everythign I expected. Sound was great, convenience was great.

Maybe I am making too big a deal out of it? But I just wanted to share my thoughts.
  • zman3zman3 Member Posts: 857
    Thanks.

I have never been big on exclusivity but my dealer says I have the first Enclave in Minnesota. May be true, may not. I really don't care. I had one on order but the first vehicle off the truck was just like the one I ordered except it had rear buckets rather than the bench seat we ordered. We had debated back and forth which to order so we were quite happy taking the bucket seats and getting the vehicle two months sooner.

We just got it today so we are in the honeymoon stage, but I absolutely love it. It is quiet, the materials are nice, I love the wood steering wheel, etc. Right now my only minor, minor gripes are that the easy exit feature seems to take quite a while to slide the seat back (I am guessing the total travel time is about 5 seconds) and the tilting side mirrors tilt too far IMHO.
  • mss42mss42 Member Posts: 23
    ;) wolf,

You need to get yourself a better bluetooth ear piece. I don't have to do any of that. It answers automatically. My sister has bluetooth in her Infiniti FX45 and I hate when she calls me on that thing. She doesn't like it either. :P I'm looking to move my carrier anyway. so Verizon just might be the way to go. Besides, I make it a habit of not talking on my cell while driving unless I am travelling on road trips. These people can't drive out here in Cali I have to pay attention ;)
  • mss42mss42 Member Posts: 23
ROFL THAT 5 SECONDS IS TOO LONG. :P
  • mss42mss42 Member Posts: 23
The Enclave is adding 2 more colors Crisom and Charcol Black Metallic. Check it out. I like the chrome of the Acadia and the wood in the Outlook looks cheapppppppp. Now, that I have found out that the Acadia will have the backup camera in the 08 version I think I'm going to get that one. I like both cars but Buick is getting on my nerves by not fixing there website w/more information so people can see what they are really getting. I know people have posted pics of their Enclaves and I have thanked them althought, the pics are not that clear. Buick needs to stop playing and go ahead and put the information on the website so we can get a good look at the car and see the exteriors/interiors in diff colors and views like the Acadia. I'm not ordering something and then I may not like the combination after it gets here. :confuse: I'm soooo tired of seeing that Cocoa Brown lol and yes that Ming Blue is ugly. Can't get a real feel of the Blue/Gold metallic from the pics that other owners have sent in.
  • zman3zman3 Member Posts: 857
    I'm glad I can amuse you. :P

Maybe the key is the key. I don't think it starts sliding the seat back until the key is removed. That is usually my last step before opening the door and exiting the vehicle. I basically ended up sitting there waiting for the seat to move rearward. Maybe I need to remove the key earlier. While 5 seconds is not much time in the grand scheme, sitting there waiting for the seat to stop is, how shall I say this, a waste of my time.
  • mss42mss42 Member Posts: 23
Perhaps it will become easier as time goes on. You know how new things are. Just like a pair of shoes when new they are ok but once you get a little wear on them they fit and feel much better. Good luck
  • lwolf99lwolf99 Member Posts: 83
To those of you who have already purchased your new Enclave, would you might sharing how much over/under invoice price you paid?
  • zman3zman3 Member Posts: 857
I paid $150 over "invoice", but the invoices in the Minneapolis area have a fairly hefty regional advertising fee added on to them. I ended up saving about $2200 off of sticker price plus $300 in GM Card earnings + $1000 Conquest cash, so the total savings was about $3500. I thought about trying to haggle down the advertising but given the popularity of these vehicles the dealer wasn't terribly motivated to go any further.

Well, I hate to open up this can of worms again, but here is a link to another JD Power survey for digital cameras over $600:

    http://www.jdpower.com/util/ratings/results.aspx?study_id=901&vertical=Electroni- cs&v1=$600%20or%20more

Olympus gets 5 stars in all but 1 category and Canon 2 stars in all but one category. This is a car forum so I don't want to go into detail here, but these results are absolute horse manure. Here's an interesting link:

    http://www.pbase.com/vthian/image/33031023

See all those white lenses? Only Canon makes a white lens.

I don't think think it changes the conclusion that you can't necessarily go entirely on reputation for build quality and reliability, but stuff like this certainly hurts JD Power's credibility in my eyes.
  • kimdvm1kimdvm1 Member Posts: 37
Your analogy about camera, etc. is a good one to keep in mind. I have similar reasons for now ignoring Consumer Reports. When there were articles on a topic of which I had knowledge, I could tell there conclusions were drawn on false pretenses and poor studies. Thus, I don't trust them for things I don't have knowledge of... such as car mechanics.

In the end, most of us will choose a car brand we like and are comfortable with. After all, if we were all logical, we wouldn't even be buying new cars. We would buy slightly-used ones with the biggest chunk of depreciation gone. I really like getting the new car, though, to get the colors/options as I want.

The JD Power results are hopefully at least a USEFUL piece of the puzzle, but certainly shouldn't sway a person completely in one direction.

When can we start ordering 2008 model Acadia's?
  • kcoreykcorey Member Posts: 130
OK, I'm really a novice when it comes to driving and using a cell phone, but...for the very few times that I have used it, I find that OnStar is great, not to mention the options that are available...diagnostic check, location-finder (if the car is ever stolen), free door unlock (instead of calling a locksmith), notification to OnStar in case of emergency, just to mention a few.
Yes, I know, I really don't drive and use a phone; it's just something to have in case.
  • crd26acrd26a Member Posts: 2
Any links to the colors or pics with the colors? Expected date of release?

And what is with the extra $500 for the paint? You'd think they could have a set color scheme without having to jack the consumer more.
  • 62vetteefp62vetteefp Member Posts: 6,043
Its for higher cost paint. Takes another coat and another pass thru ovens. Much more expensive paint also, not just a mettalic which the Europeans typically charge more for.

At one of the auto shows earlier this year, one of the higher-ups at GM slipped and mentioned a V8 option for 2008 in a Denali version of the Acadia and the Enclave. Has there been any recent information on this and which GM V8 motor might it be?

And when might these 2008's be available?
  • beach15beach15 Member Posts: 1,305
All of that is pure rumor, and nothing yet has been confirmed as even possible. The 2008 information was just released, and they go into production within about a month and a half, with essentially just a new color or two and other little things like a back up camera.

That said, IF the V8 does come with time, it's likely to be the new OHC V8 series that will effectively replace what is currently the Northstar line at Cadillac. Others have said that it might be the 5.3L OHV engine used in various models, but if anything, I would still bet on it being from the up and coming OHC V8.

Still, there's no hurry to do that, as adding cylinders almost always means a drop in mileage, and that's the last thing any automaker wants right now. But, it's still possible, along with a Denali line for the GMC, just not any time soon.
  • cajun_mikecajun_mike Member Posts: 37
The Lambda's are extremely heavy and I believe that a small block V8 can easily match the gas mileage of a V6. Of course that would require a very well thought out transmission. However, i'm not familiar with GM's automatic transmissions and their shift points.
  • bawlmercbawlmerc Member Posts: 17
The Enclave is 79 inches wide, does this measurement include the mirrors or is it just body width?
  • balooobalooo Member Posts: 24
No surprises here, welcome to the Lamda family!!!
    Enclave,Outlook,Acadia they are all fantastic.
I purchased a 07 Outlook XR two weeks ago and I LOVE it!!!
Test drove CX-9,MDX,waited for the Vera Cruz (knob come off during test drive...).
I test drove the Acadia almost two months ago and really liked it but was not crazy about the sheet metal but was still extremely impressed with it.
An Outlook pulled along side me at a stop light and decided to check it out...
Personally I think the Outlook looks better and is a better value costing about a grand less with the same bells and whistles then Acadia.
My Outlook XR is LOADED expect no AWD.
1575 miles including one 600 mile road trip later and I can tell you the lambda platform is near perfect. traded in a 04 Toyota Sienna and believe me there is no loss in seating space for my family.
There is some loss of cargo space when comparing to a minivan.
But when comparing to the other CUV's mentioned above there really is no comparision. The GM lambda is the CUV to have!
    BTW,
I'm asked in disbelief a least twice a week by total strangers "this is a Saturn"?
    Yeah baby it's a Saturn...
  • selooseloo Member Posts: 606
    Congrats on your purchase.

Did you pay full MSRP+ for the Outlook?
  • lorien86lorien86 Member Posts: 4
Hey everyone, I just bought a Midnight Blue Saturn Outlook XE FWD with a Trailering package for 28,548. Here are some pictures.

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/7768745@N06/

I'm totally loving this car, handles very nicely and better than some other SUVs I have driven before. I'm 20 years old and I love the look of this car, especially the side profile. What do you guys think?
  • balooobalooo Member Posts: 24
Yes I paid $39,005 and played the Saturn no haggle game.
I see other posts where some are suppositly beating down GMC dealers in Acadia deals somewhat.
The inventories here in north Florida will not allow much bargaining; all lambda's are moving extremely fast in this region.
Frankly I feel the price paid was a steal. My Saturn is the Gold mist color with tan leather polished rims and exhaust again every option except AWD in the sun it glows it is a beauty to behold!
Every bit as sharp as the Caddy Escalade (so I've been told).
When looking at the MDX with tech package, roof etc. it topped $48,000 with the same features as my XR (and the MDX is not as good looking in my opinion).
I could have purchased an XR with roof, upgraded sound system and leather for for $35,000 and change but was not crazy about the silver pearl color.
I feel I got a good value and I really like those Saturn folks they live up to the customer driven reputation they have. purchased mine at Saturn of Gainesville Fl. they called twice to make sure everything is fine and if I had any Outlook feature questions.(The Outlook has many useful features and technology I was not expecting or aware of)
They even sent my family a tin of gourmet chocolate chip cookies a week after my purchase... nice touch!
Outstanding customer service, I don't mind paying for that.
  • selooseloo Member Posts: 606
I agree that the cookies are a nice touch, but those are some really expensive cookies!

    Enjoy your new Outlook!
  • soderholmdsoderholmd Member Posts: 47
I test drove an Outlook XR and a CX-9 Back to Back. The one BIG thing I noticed after driving them Back to Back was that the Mazda's Tranny was much better than the Outlooks. I have heard of a "software upgrade" for the tranny on the Lambda's - any confirmation on that?

I Really liked the Outlook - Size wise it is just about perfect - I thought the Mazda drove better, but overall, the Outlook seems like a better package.........and the best looking of the Lambda's!
  • balooobalooo Member Posts: 24
Thank you I am really enjoying it!
You can have a well equipped XE for under $30,000 like the one the young lady above purchased, however if you want nav, great sound package, voice activated functions, towing package, enhanced appearance,Power lift gate(CX-9 ???) power everything etc.The Hyundai Vera Cruz doesn't even have the real goodies, CX-9 comparably equipped tops $41,000 with a 7 week wait and the Acura topped $48,000 with the same options believe me I shopped them all.
Relatively speaking $39,000 may seem expensive to some but if the options I have are what you desire the Outlook is a steal.
  • kimdvm1kimdvm1 Member Posts: 37
Wow lorien86! How does a 20yr old buy an Outlook!? (not really asking, just thinking about what I was driving when I was 20... a Mercury Comet with a rusty frame that needed oil refills more often than gas refills... ah the good old Fords) :P .

Congrats on your new car! It looks great!
