I am not sure that I will be able to handle UA in unfamiliar car. Pressing button for 3+ seconds probably would not have been on my list if I did not know about it.
I wonder if Toyota manual mentions this procedure, it should but I have no way of verifying it.

So now we have toyota not properly effecting repairs on the cars. Doing poor work is now an excuse for their car's having unintended acceleration, except that they don't really have unintended acceleration in the first place, according to toyota.

What would happen if he had applied the brakes while the car was at WOT. I don't believe for a second there are no cases of electronic UA. It is how well the driver can bring the car under control that should be the issue. How many parts in the DBW throttle system could fail causing WOT? We know the pedal can be the culprit. We know the Throttle body controller can and has failed.
I think there is enough evidence to force Toyota to install a fail safe BTO system in every DBW vehicle they have built to date. And any other auto maker suffering from complaints and crashes as a result of UA should be subject to the same solution.
Why? Because they would have to admit that their software wasn't completely tested, and I seriously doubt that they would want to have their test procedures and associated reports opened for inspection by a bunch of ignorant Washington bureaucrats who want nothing more than to point fingers and accuse everyone of failing to do a good job.
You may not believe me, but all I'm suggesting is that you simply watch & listen.

Gilbert had earlier testified on Capitol Hill that he was able to re-create unintended acceleration in a Toyota vehicle through a rather simple engineering manipulation.
"I could re-engineer this building and cause it to go up in flames, but that is not realistic," said Subodh Medhekar, a principal engineer with Exponent, an outside firm that has been working for Toyota and testing vehicles for problems. He added that vehicle manufacturers like Toyota should not be under pressure to "detect unreasonable events."
What Exponent didn't say:
The other company's cars were set to give unintended acceleration WITHOUT the computer realizing it was happening. toyota's, in Dr. Gilbert's test, did not catch that there was a flaw with the inputs from the dual acceleration sensor inputs.
Exponent didn't say that the other car company's computers did not sense a problem. So their checks would show a fault had occured, even if the unintended acceleration wasn't prevented. My personal thinking is the other computers would have prevented it but Exponent bypassed something to make the unintended acceleration occur. Were the car's stationary or were they on a dynamometer so they are actually moving. Stationary acceleration of the motor may be allowed, but not if the vehicle's speed is being impinged under real world moving conditions.

toyoda and his clan are already mighty rich. If they have any conscience left, they should just close shop and retire in their villas. Their money can last 7 generations or more anyway. Closing shop will save more lives. Some say the number of cases is small compared to total sales. But not all cases are reported, and many are time bombs waiting to explode. NOT YET....
These problematic cars won't ruin their owners at the same time. And who knows who will be the next statistic, even if its not 50% of all toyota sales ? Tell this to the families who already lost their loved ones in such a horrible manner, and their deaths are totally not worth it.
I remember General Patton's saying " Your job is not to die for your country but to make sure the OTHER SOB die for HIS country ! " My favourite saying ! Very true ! Now guys, lets not die for toyota's sales, we have many other good choices out there like Nissan, Hyundai, Ford etc. Don't take the risk. Even if toyota incentives are now very attractive.
How much is your life, or the lives of your loved ones WORTH ? I tell you, even if tomorrow someone gave me a toyota for free, I will simply sell it and buy something else !
I too have no problems with recalls. Just that the deceitful, arrogant, cunning attitude of toyota is a menace to all. Such an attitude, believe me, will give problems, new future problems, even if these current problems have been resolved.

Sikes tried in vain to slow down, then made a 911 call after the Prius reached speeds over 90 mph, CHP public affairs Officer Brian Pennings said.
Highway Patrol personnel caught up with the blue car near Kitchen Creek Road, and one officer pulled up alongside and used his loudspeaker to talk Sikes through the process of slowing down by using his emergency brake and then turning off the engine.
The officer pulled in front of the car as it decelerated and rolled to a stop and put the rear bumper of the squad car against the front end of the Prius.
"The vehicles did not touch until after they came to a stop," Pennings said.
First we have to pay our firemen to get trained on handling accidents with Toyota hybrids. Now we will have to train the cops on how to talk people through UA situations. No word yet on the cause of this UA. Hard to pin it on the driver.

Lets put it this way. We know for a fact that more than just throttle pedal and floor mats have caused UA. I include electronic devices in that mix. Throttle body controllers failing or sensors failing. All can cause a serious problem in a DBW system. If you go by the premise that such events Will occur in a DBW system. The only solution is a failsafe way to shut it down.
Toyota is refusing to do that. They would rather shim a throttle or replace a floor mat. And spend big bucks fighting anyone that gets in their way. Congress needed a bully to fight and Toyota just happened along at the right time.
So I've finally given up and found another car.
If Toyota's lost me, they are really in trouble.

Today this joke actually saved this poor gentleman's life; "luckily" he's driving a Prius, the one which can not even to intended acceleration; and the car only hit 90 mph in a 20 minutes long incident. Any other Toyota would hit 130 mph in a few minutes.
Actually the car company is Toyota but the name of the founder (and the current president and CEO) is Toyoda. The name of the company was changed for marketing reasons.

The California Highway Patrol has confirmed its officers helped bring to a stop a runaway Toyota Prius exhibiting unintended acceleration Monday afternoon. The incident took place around 2:00 p.m., a CHP spokesman told Leftlane.
Law enforcement involvement in the near-catastrophe began when a driver reported to the CHP that his blue Toyota Prius was accelerating uncontrollably and he was unable to turn off the vehicle or shift into neutral. The driver reportedly traveled at speeds over 90 miles per hour while covering approximately 30 miles, according to new details.
At 2:03 p.m., PST, CHP reported a blue Toyota Prius traveling east-bound on the 8 freeway in San Diego while passing Los Coches road. The driver continued at full-throttle for approximately 30 miles up into the mountains leading out to El Centro, and away from the city’s center. This incident began roughly 5 miles from the tragic accident involving a Lexus ES350 with a stuck accelerator that claimed the lives of CHP officer Mark Saylor and three of his family members late last year.
No. It's the reality folks. toyota doesn't have a reputation of honesty and forthrightness in this 8-9 year saga. Slipping in fixes without publicity can save a lot of money--more than the $100,000,000 their guy bragged about saving.

Not the same type of comparison. And one has to be clear about who owns the suppliers. The steering problem with motors on some toyotas and cobalts are with parts from a supplier partly owned by, guess whom, toyota.

For me, it would be invoice minus $5K, and 8 year financing at 0% interest. Ridculous? Yes, I know, but dang, I've never seen a company ruin it's reputation so fast. And that recent Prius report is icing on the cake.

I would put Buick and Toyota driver's in the same category. If your wondering who's impeding traffic in a traffic jam in front of everyone, you can almost count on it being a blue hair driving a Buick or Toyota.
There is no "over xx age" demographic for Toyota owners as a whole.
