No jip, that would be a highball, and it is still too early in the day for that.

And LR guy, you are probably right that they won't bite, but as a famous poster once said, if you don't ask, you won't get.
the whole point is, the buyer is still undecided if he should buy now or just wait (not technically "needing" the car), so the required offer from the dealer has to blow him away. So, might as well tell them what that # is.
If they bite, buy the car and count your savings. If they don't, no harm, no foul.
It was the night that I made a joke about another poster's grammar and you told Tidester that I was a "fake". You did it in a serious way.
Are you kidding me? You actually remember the time of day it was? :confuse: I get that kind of stuff from Mrs. jmonroe; where I was sitting when I said it and what I was wearing. Do you remember that too? :P And no, I didn’t say it in a “serious way”. I thought you knew me better than that. It must have been a full moon night. You know, the moon does affect some people in strange ways. You gonna get bent outta shape about that too?
Mackabee and I used to discuss the posters here---99% good comments I might add. He said, "Jmonroe is forgetful. He just says things and moves on." He wanted me to find a way to patch things up. I hope this does it. He would be pleased. I would be, too.
Talking behind my back I see. Now it’s my turn to get hurt. This forum would be a lot better if our friend was still here.
I don’t want to turn this into a mush bowl but I’m pleased too.
It will take me forever to catch up on my furniture remarks, your new car, and your new tires.
So, I gave you plenty of ammo, did I? Don’t make me come looking for you. The kitchen was enough. We don’t need anymore furniture around here and don’t remind me about those damn tires I had to replace, OK?
Glad it’s over.

Thanks for filling me in. As you may remember, Mackabee left several multi-part sagas unresolved when he left the forum so I'm happy to hear the conclusion of your story. Some of the sales--or in this cases buyer's--stories are really quite addictive.
As for your new vehicle make sure you get what you both want because I am already hearing grumbling from my wife about our Scion XB and it's only three months old. Her complaints are minor like inadequate cup holders, overly wide rear pillars, a shifter handle that always catches her purse strap and a couple of other annoyances. It wasn't as if our 02 Rav4 was some dream car, but she loved that little SUV and she definitely misses the higher driving position.
I have heard some folks demean Toyota for lowering their standards of fit and finish. I can't speak of the new 2010 Toyotas, but I can say without a doubt that the 2010 Scion materials are--what's the French word--déclassé. I mean that in both a style and social sense, but then, I'm an artist and a teacher so I should appreciate the utilitarian and bohemian charm. No one seeing us drive it will accuse us of pretentiousness.
speaking of tires, was talking to my BIL over the weekend. He has a BMW 550 (maybe a 2008?) and had to get tires recently. Said the dealer wanted something like 1K just for the rears (it has the staggered size nonsense, so no rotating).
Ended up getting new Bridgestones from tirerack, and got all 4, and locally mounted, for about $850.
the dealer also would only sell him run flats, since that was what came on the car. But, he discovered (after he bought the thing, and was vacuuming it for the first time) that he also had a spare tire in the trunk.
No idea why he had both, but needless to say, he ditched the run flats since they sucked and were expensive.
Unfortunately, I think most cars get uglier each time they renew the design. Some examples that come to mind are; Jeep Grand Cherokee, Escape, Mercedes C Class, Accura, Camry, 3 Series in convertible form, Dodge Caravan, Focus, and many more.......(add your own choices)____________,
annual trip to Nashville for a long weekend. Stops along the way are required for bourbon country as well as the Corvette museum.
I agree, that 99 C Class interior was nice, and a great car to drive, 4 cylinder with a Kompressor. Wish we had kept it but got seduced by a 2003 C Class wagon which wasn't as much fun.
Nashville! I'm not normally a country fan but I have been to the Grand Ole Opry 3 times and that is a tremendous experience. Fantastic show, and the audience has to be the nicest friendliest most appreciative group around. Gaylord Opryland Hotel is quite a place too.
If your picture is larger, e.g. 830 x 600, divide 650 by 830 to get a ratio for reduction. Multiply that ratio times the 600 and get 469.
So in front of the final greater than sign leaving a space between the quote sign and your new text, insert width="650" height="469"
So after you have turned the link from your right click on the photo and choosing properties in the flyout menu to get the address and the width and height,
it looks like this
except that you have your numbers for height="xxx" and width="xxx"
I've always wanted to stop there for more than gas at the Shell station in front. We're always in a hurry--translated wife doesn't want to spend hours there... They need to build an outlet mall with Bass, Jockey, Elizabeth, next to the museum, then we would each be happy to spend some time
so the required offer from the dealer has to blow him away. So, might as well tell them what that # is
That's exactly what I was going to say, unless the dealership gave me a number that everyone here would think I was lieing about (as it's too low to believe)... then I'm perfectly content to proceed at my own pace.
"I don't want to turn this into a mush bowl but I'm pleased too."
Getting that much out of an old salt like you is just short of a miracle. :P Thanks.
I promise not to mention the tires. As for Mrs. JM's new dining room suite, no promises there.
Though I prefer boxy styles in my cars, yours is a pretty car. I looked it up when you bought it and took the photo tour. I just hope that it won't need a new paint job. I know how you are about washing and waxing them to death. :shades:

Oh man, what were those guys thinking. The best looking minivan, next to the MPV, and they turn it into an ice cream truck. No wonder those guys went bankrupt.
You're talking about trading in your Buick, right?
First of all, I have been Buick fan all of my life. My parents only bought Buicks. I learned how to drive in a Buick and I have owned quite a few.
The 3800 engine is one of the best engines evr produced.
Having said all of that....as used cars they absoultly do not sell well.
Maybe your part of the country is different but every time we take in an especailly nice one and decide to take a chance and not wholesale it, they sit and sit until we finally give up and take them to the auction and usually lose money on them.
I'm only telling you this because it's probably a car that store won't want as a trade in. As a result, your TMV numbers may not mean much to them. They will only give you what they can get at the auction.
It's probably a car you should sell yourself UNLESS your part of the country is different than mine.
I wouldn't expect the phone to ring off the hook either but I could be wrong.
All it takes is one buyer who appreciates them as much as you and I do.
"...I am already hearing grumbling from the wife..."
Isn't that par for the course once we become husbands? :P Our looking at cars is a slow process. My wife has to be "in the mood" to look. I have several places that I want to go, but she puts other things ahead of this car buying. She has only test driven the JGC, the Liberty, and the CRV. She says that she won't need to try the Explorer. We still need to try the Pilot, MB, MDX, Aspen, etc. We're in the middle of a house project; she's enjoying the golf course; she's looking for an Empire sofa, etc. Hopefully, I can get her to another dealer this week. If she complains about the purchase later, I want to be able to say that she chose the vehicle.
You're talking about trading in your Buick, right?
Actually I was talking about our Mazda MPV, But, I think your comments about the Buick probably applies to the MPV as well. I know the MPV's resale value is not equal to Honda or Toyota. Mazda stopped making the MPV after the 2006 model year. But, we really had planned on keeping it about 10 years, or that's what I was led to believe, so resale value wasn't a top priority..
More than likely I would be buying the Mazda 5 for the wife, maybe keep the MPV for myself (not thrilled about having a minivan as a daily driver), and giving the Buick Regal to my daughter for her 16th birthday.
I do have to say the Buick Regal has been my favorite car by far. The ride, comfort and reliability have been tops. My parents also had a Regal when I was a kid. They are a great used car buys as you stated, and I have seriously thought about getting another.
Maybe your part of the country is different but every time we take in an especially nice one and decide to take a chance and not wholesale it, they sit and sit until we finallyu give up and take them to the auction and usually lose money on them.
I wonder if that is still true with Buicks newer line-up of the LaCrosse and Lucerne? Do you see many of those in your dealership?
If she ever buys new dining room furniture, it won't be so bad. Think about your new kitchen. Now that it is done, you admitted that you are enjoying it. I bet it looks terrific. We have really enjoyed ours, though I had a stroke each time that my wife presented me with a bill. When she chose the black granite with the bronze sparkle in it, I nearly had to go to bed. We have a large kitchen with much counter space. Still, I was thrilled with the look, too. Just like cars, I love that black.
Richard -- So your wife is a golfer. Mine too. Me as well. Like to play twice a week. Both of us are retired teachers so we played all summer in the past. Can't say that our game has improved with age but we enjoy the time outside. Stopped keeping score. Two reasons: 1. Too much anxiety if you have a string of good holes and it ends with an 8 on a par 3. 2. It's not cheating if you don't keep score.
Personally, I would love to see a few manufacturers go to a "retro" style. I would love to have a brand new car with all the latest bells and whistles, but one that looked like, say, a 1950 Mercedes, an early 60's Corvette, or something similar. I think some of the old classic designs would sell like hotcakes. I could live without that one extra mile per gallon that the raked windshield and super aerodynamics give you.
We recently took in a Lucerne. A very nice, loaded one.
It sold within a week. Maybe we just got lucky or maybe these are more popular than I thought.
And, you're right about the MPV. Not bad cars but sales were never strong when they wre new and worse as used.
A few years ago, we bought a half dozen that were low mile ex rentals. They were low mile nice cars and we bought them at a good price. We were able to offer would be used Odyssey buyers an alternative for thousands less and they sold quickly.
I remember someone had inatalled thick cables with padlocks under the second row seats to prevent theft. We didn't get the padlock keys and they were a B****h to get out!
Driver....that's where I stay when I go down there. It punctuates a nice drive for me. Spend a day at the distilleries (which is about all I can take, given their little plastic cup tastings). Get my stash of boutique bourbons for gifts and a bit of person consumption.
Spend a 1/2 day at the 'vette museum. Drive on into Nashville to the Gaylord. It's been awhile since I've been to the Grand 'Old Opry, but last time I was there, it was very enjoyable. Mostly, I go there for the "joints" that have the hard working blues bands and BBQ smoking out in the back.
I certainly wouldn't mind living there....except I'd then have to turn into a Titans fan.
. I could live without that one extra mile per gallon that the raked windshield and super aerodynamics give you.
The one review I read about the GLK said it had nice square lines, compared to the suppository look most cars have today. That kind of says it all. I would like one of these made with todays features...........
There are plenty of new cars that are flops also, not just the ones you mentioned. Most of those you mentioned are just bad rip offs that were trying to make a few bucks. People bought them at first and then realized they were just bad cars.
Actually the PT Cruiser and the New Beetle were quite successful. The problem was they were only good for a couple of years and then the novelty wore off.
Buicks - I have always had a thing for them. Mt grandfather had an old 49 straight 8, my dad had a 56 of some sort and i later had a 56 Special as my plaything. The other day I pointed out a Lucerne to my wife (the recent recipient of the 07 Camry) and she liked that. That would have been OK.

I used to live in Nashville and my dad worked for Kroger one of the Opries bigger sponsors so it wasn't difficult for him to get tickets. I used to go once or twice a year. But I have to say seeing it in the old Ryman auditorium was better than the current venue.
Now to keep on topic me and the wife started looking for a new car to replace a 12 year old Saturn. We looked at the Hyundai Sonata and the Nissan Altima over the weekend. The wife does like the Sonata.
2011 Hyundai Sonata, 2014 BMW 428i convertible, 2015 Honda CTX700D
My Dad bought a brand new Buick Estate wagon in 1957or 58. It's the one with the toothy grill and massive chrome claded fins. Copper with brown vinyl seats -- what a boat. Only scratched it once -- on another car. Had a cool feature. A dial on the dash would move this red indicator under the speedo so you could set it at whatever the speed limit was. When you reached the setting a nasty buzzing sound would alert you that it was time to ease off the gas.
A dial on the dash would move this red indicator under the speedo so you could set it at whatever the speed limit was
My aunt had one of those on one of her cars. She was driving us someplace and set the dial. She stopped for something and when she was out of the car we reset it to something like 80 MPH or so. SO we took the later part of the trip flying down the road. She never caught on and must have thought she was doing a lot less.

But I have to say seeing it in the old Ryman auditorium was better than the current venue. I have had a tour of the original Ryman auditorium but the new theatre is beautiful. It is fun watching the show, and they actually do the commercials for Cracker Barrel etc., right in front of your eyes. The performers are really talented, they act like simple folks, but they are very talented.
The wife does like the Sonata.
Those Sonatas are beautiful. They look like a Mercedes CLK or VW CC and the reviews look good. Based on looks and proven dependability, they look like a great buy.
Had a cool feature. A dial on the dash would move this red indicator under the speedo so you could set it at whatever the speed limit was.
My Father had something like that on his '59 Olds Super 88. I'm pretty sure it was called a Safety Sentinel. Because that car had that feature he told me, "there is no excuse for getting a ticket so don't come home and tell me you did or your driving days will be over for months and months". I believed him and didn't get any tickets but I was lucky one night when I was pulled over; the local cop was the uncle of one of the friends I had in the car. Man, that was close.

Yes, my wife enjoys golf. I tried it years ago, but with sight only in one eye the coordination wouldn't work with either right or left handed clubs. When I'm not busy, I drive her cart, pick up balls and drink beer. Like cars, I love driving the cart.
I think that a top of the line fully loaded Sonata comes in at the same price as a base CC with no options. The CC has more power but only slightly more and gets about 2-3 MPG less. The Sonata has a hybrid coming out this year and should come in just under the price of the base CC, Plus the Sonata is getting a turbo charged version that should be just under the power of the V6 CC for thousands less with much better gas mileage.

As the regulars here know, I traded in Mrs. jmonroe’s ’06 Sonata LX for the Genny last March and passed on my ’05 XG350 to her. She really liked that car (was used to it more than anything else) but she really/really liked the bun warmers in that car that the XG350 doesn’t have. You can imagine what I heard this past winter about that.
A few weeks ago while we were at a red light a new Sonata pulls up along side of us and she said, “isn’t that a Sonata”? I said yeah but that’s the stripped down version and I doubt that it has the bun warmers (I might be wrong there) that you like”? She goes on to say, “that’s the newer styling Sonata isn’t it? I like the looks of it”. Let me explain something here, she has never actually cared about cars all that much so I was rather shocked that she even noticed that it was different. The conversation continues and out of nowhere she says, “maybe by next winter we should get one of those but it has to have the bun warmers. Don't they have sales at the end of the model year”?
I think by sheer osmosis she is picking up this car stuff from Edmunds. :confuse:

Who defines "reasonable" profit. In a negotiation, the buyer and seller agree to a reasonable profit. Do we want the government to make that decision?
Did you know that trading upside down would cause the buyer to default
The bank decides the risk, not the dealer.
Did you oversell customers or did you let the buyer choose the debt load?
The buyer agrees to the deal and signs the papers. Let us not get on the government program of the poor buyer did not have a clue

The one review I read about the GLK said it had nice square lines, compared to the suppository look most cars have today. That kind of says it all. I would like one of these made with todays features...........

57 Buicks were something. I liked any of them from 55 - 57. Of course that 49 has a special place in my heart. If I hit the lottery I'll go find one.
My aunt had one of those on one of her cars. She was driving us someplace and set the dial. She stopped for something and when she was out of the car we reset it to something like 80 MPH or so. SO we took the later part of the trip flying down the road. She never caught on and must have thought she was doing a lot less.

:confuse:
