Then I would try the Jeep along with your wife
LOL, just exactly what are you suggesting here?

That is a real LOL! If I try to fix it up (take a test drive or something) it only gets worse. I am truly sorry especially to Richard, it was completely unintensional.

Richard, 28k for a Jeep is crazy !! So without the rebate-the price is 32k.. Damn thats getting close to base Lexus/Acura/BMW barebone models..If you really want that Jeep buy a 1yr or 2 yr old one-- those things take some serious depreciation and let the 1st owner take the hit. But for me, I would not buy any Chrysler product brand new,,never ever... :shades:
  • graphicguygraphicguy Member Posts: 14,144
I've configured it a dozen times on BMW's web site - but given its base price of $58K ($65K optioned the way I want it), I won't own one in this lifetime.

jimbres....if you're going to go that far, I toyed with one of these before I bought my TL. Throw a couple grand in for a CPO and you've got yourself a very nice ride....

"Then I would try the jeep along with your wife, she has to be happy with it too."

This is a classic example of why proper written communication is so important in today's world of emails and text messages. You want to transmit your intended thoughts correctly. I just passed over it because I knew what you meant, and no offense was taken. I see many things on this site that I ignore because I realize that we're not in English 101. Since Houdini has brought forth the error, let's look at it for a moment.

You actually have two sentences here which should have been separated by either a semicolon or a period. Your comma is not strong enough to support both thoughts. Also, you need a comma placed before the homophone "too" indicating an excess or additional person.

Your first sentence would be easy to correct. Simply reverse the order by saying, "Along with your wife, I would suggest that both of you test drive the Jeep."

To Fezo: I would probably be more upset with the grammatical error because I would find it a bit flattering that my wife would still be appealing. For her age, she is still very attractive. Four years ago, she spent $25K of her own savings on plastic surgery---eyes, mouth, and forehead. It removed 20+ years of aging. I have to admit that the difference was amazing. She also shed 40 pounds, and has maintained her weight. The only drawback to this is that she appears to have married an older man.

I saw this as well and I knew that he was suggesting a threesome (or, if you prefer, menage a trois) between Richard, his wife and the Jeep, but since the moderators let it go I figured they supported his progressive views on man-machine relationships. ;)

Thank you for explaining my grammatical errors. Just don't tell my wife, she is a master of the English language, and I will never live down that particular error.

In my own defence, I wrote that message after a very full day of work, mainly our warehouse sale to the public which makes for a very tiring day - and I thought the information I was delivering was of more importance than the form.

And, what happenned to English being a living, breathing language that is always evolving?.

Betty got her Altima but the SM almost killed the deal.

On Thursday July 29 th the salesman (Bob) at the Altima dealer called Betty and wanted to close the deal before the end of the month. I was surprised that Betty didn’t jump on the last offer they made earlier in the month but as a result she saved some money because she waited, but like I said the SM almost ruined it for both of them.

    It went something like this:

Bob: Hi Betty, I have some good news for you and I sure hope you didn’t buy another car.

Betty: Hi Bob. No I didn’t buy another car yet so what is the good news?

Bob: Well that is good news because we can take another $135 off of our last price. We’re doing everything we can to have a good month and to meet our projected sales goal. This is the best we can do and our SM said this is our last offer and if we can’t sell the car by Saturday, this deal will not be on the table after that. So what do you say, can we sell you a car?

Betty was going to go in on Saturday anyway so this hit her sweet spot and now she is ready to buy.

Betty: That is good news and yes we have a deal. When can you have the car ready?

Bob: Great. I’ll get on it right away so if you can come in tomorrow the car will be ready to go. I’ll have all the paper on my side ready for your signature and I’ll get the F&I guy to do his paperwork too so it shouldn’t take more than an hour after you show up. Please don’t wait till Saturday because it will be a mad house in here then.

Betty: Tomorrow is fine. I planned on taking a half day vacation anyway so this will works out just great. What is the best time? I could be there around 1:30 if that works for you.

Bob: That’s fine. I’ll have them start getting the car ready right away and I'll start the paperwork right now. I’ll see you tomorrow at 1:30.

Betty got to the dealership on time but Bob wasn’t there. The SM met her and told her that he was going to help her since Bob left about 45 minutes earlier because Bob’s 12 year old daughter had fallen at a pool and hurt her shoulder and his wife thought it was separated and wanted Bob to meet her at the emergency room. The SM escorts Betty to his office, offers coffee which she accepts and proceeds to almost kill the deal.

SM: I don’t know why we have reduced this car like we have. It’s one of the most popular cars on the road and should sell itself but we kept reducing the price anyway.

Betty: I suspect you lowered the price to make a sale but if you don’t want to sell it that’s OK with me.

She said she was fuming and pushed her chair away from the desk to leave when the SM said.

SM: Calm down, try to see my side of this. I’m…

    Betty interrupts and says.

Betty: OK, what is your side of this? Aren’t you supposed to sell cars? When Bob called yesterday he said you guys really wanted to make a sale. So what changed?

SM: I’m a salesman and I have to think that the next person that walks through that door will want that car for the first price we give them and we can sell it for that and make a better profit.

Betty: Well, I guess that didn’t happen did it? Otherwise we wouldn’t be sitting here right now. Would we?

SM: Don’t worry, I’m going to sell you the car for the price that we gave you but that’s how the car business works.

It would be nice if some of the biz guys that used to hang out here were still around because I’d like to know what they think of this so called SM car guru. With the way he acts it’s surprising to me that he’s gotten as far as he has.

FWIW, Betty loves the car and called Bob to see how his daughter was. Her shoulder was only sprained and she should be back to normal before schools starts but she can’t go swimming anymore this summer. She wanted to tell Bob what had happened with the SM but didn’t.

Thank goodness, a real sales story and I hope you get your gold star.

First, Betty has been a real trooper in this situation, and put up with a lot more than I would have.

Honestly, when I showed up at the dealer I would have said, where are the papers that were filled out, because either I sign them or I am leaving and never coming back.

That SM sounds like the sales men from years ago. I wouldn't expect them to be around today. Personally, I would tell Bob he came close to losing the sale. I am glad his little girl was alright. I was hoping there would be a good excuse why he wasn't there.....presumably the story was true, although with that SM guy, they are losing their credibilty quickly. It will be interesting to see how warranty repairs and service are handled by this dealership.

For an English "maven" he should express himself more clearly.

Now, I can see why he doesn't want to check a GLK (I almost wrote KGB), if he does that he will think of himself as a "rear end person" :P

I guess the theory is, "front end people" buy more prudently, therefore cars that are less expensive. I'll have to see a social scientist about that theory. :confuse:

Thanks for taking the time to write a detailed sales story. I feel Betty put up with too much of cra* from that SM .She was very professional and restrained. I would have blown a fuse and walked out. If the SM raises the price, then I would ask for a lower price -saying that`s the way my business is done. Would love to see his reaction.

And as said before- more than the sales dept ,the service dept is more important. You can buy a car anywhere or online like me :shades: but for service I cant get it done online and will have to go to the dealer. So the service dept reputation for me is far more important.

Also Betty should have informed Bob of the story -why should she conceal it? She should just let him know how she feels about this deal. But boy, that SM had some arrogance and attitude. I dont know-- probably he felt that Betty would succumb to his pressure tactics and buy it for a higher price as she is a female. A lot of salespeople think that female buyers can be a home run and taken to the cleaners probably due to their lack of expertise in this area which is not true.

What did Betty trade in by the way? An interesting statistic--I remember reading on Ebay motors that almost 60% of car buyers on Ebay are female. Reason being - they can avoid all the face to face negotiation and hassle. :P

Interesting story, I probably would have walked.

Sounds like the old tactic of one person promising something to get someone in the door then conveniently being gone so someone else can bump up the price claiming that there was something wrong with the quoted price.

No, I am pretty sure the English language started in England. Somehow, when it hit the colonies, which broke away, it got lost.

Are you saying, the English language was started in the U.S. and then when it got to England they decided to add the "u"?

She still might tell Bob about her time with the SM but at the time she spoke with him to see how his daughter was, I guess she thought better of it.

If the SM thought he would get any sympathy from her he was waaay wrong about that. Believe me, she is not a shy person. Just ask any of the people she has worked for over the years. Let me digress for a second about that. Although she never worked for me directly she was once assigned to me on one of those classic upper management dotted line assignment thingies. She’s the one that came into my office when she got word of that and said, “Mr. jmonroe” (she never called anyone mister so I knew she was going to lay into me about something and she didn’t let me down), she continued with, “we’ve known each other for quite a while now, right? So, don’t try to get all tough and bossy with me because you have your own secretary and now me temporarily, too. Don’t let this go to your head. If you keep that in mind we’ll still have the same relationship we’ve always had, OK? Now, if you’re going to have input to my performance review, gee I hope this assignment doesn’t last that long, just forget what I just said”. Not one to let stuff pass, I said, “what part of that were you serious about”? She got up from the chair across from my desk and on her way out said, “you’re the one in charge, so you figure it out”. I will admit that she said that part with a smile. :surprise:

What did Betty trade in by the way?

With a little coaching from me before she started out with her search for a new car, I asked her the same thing and cautioned her that trades tend to muddy up a negotiation so just be careful if you trade. She said she knew that and she was going to give her ’04 Civic (I think) to one of her daughters that will be starting her senior year at Penn State in a couple of weeks.

English doesn't borrow from other languages. English follows other languages down dark alleys, knocks them over, and goes through their pockets for loose grammar.

How do you know that it the 234 years since we broke away that somehow the "u" get added?

I know the USA invented lots of things, but the English language isn't one of them. However, this might be of some help (by the way, Canada invented basketball and the Blackberry as well as the pacemaker, paintroller, pablum - to see more go to:
    top Canadian inventions)

    Historical origins
In the early 18th century, English spelling was not standardised. Differences became noticeable after the publishing of influential dictionaries. Current British English spellings follow, for the most part, those of Samuel Johnson's Dictionary of the English Language (1755), whereas many American English spellings follow Noah Webster's An American Dictionary of the English Language of 1828.[1]

Webster was a strong proponent of spelling reform for reasons both philological and nationalistic. Many spelling changes proposed in the United States of America by Webster himself, and in the early 20th century by the Simplified Spelling Board, never caught on. Among the advocates of spelling reform in England, the influences of those who preferred the Norman (or Anglo-French) spellings of certain words proved to be decisive. Subsequent spelling adjustments in the United Kingdom had little effect on present-day American spellings, and vice-versa. In many cases American English deviated in the 19th century from mainstream British spelling, but it has also retained some older forms.

The spelling systems of most Commonwealth countries and Ireland, for the most part, closely resemble the British system. In Canada, however, the preferred spellings include some American forms and some British,[2] and Canadians are somewhat more tolerant of foreign forms.[3]

    Check wikapedia: difference in spelling

You can also look at:Colour changes to color in US
The words promoted by the Simplified Spelling Board beginning in 1906 were noted by a set of "rules," each for a certain type of change.

Some rules simply reaffirmed the changes which Webster had set down in his dictionary and which had been adopted by the U.S. Government in 1864. One called for writing "-or" instead of "-our," thus "color," "harbor." Another covered using "-er" for "-re" as in "center" and "fiber." These spellings were already the preferred forms in many U.S. publications by 1906, but a few Americans were still putting "centre" etc. into print.

Hope that is of some help. :D

Well that is good news because we can take another $135 off of our last price

Betty didn't pull the trigger because of a measly $135? Sheesh, must be an unknown relative of mine.

SM: I don’t know why we have reduced this car like we have. It’s one of the most popular cars on the road and should sell itself but we kept reducing the price anyway............SM: Calm down, try to see my side of this. I’m…

Well, SM is sales manager right? The SM okays the deal. So not sure why he would tell Betty that he doesn't understand why they keep reducing the price... because he is the one that's been reducing it. That said, my initial thought was SM made the statement to get Betty to think she was getting a great deal, not to squeeze more money out of her.

I don't think what the SM said justifies Betty getting so worked up. Betty sounds like a fireball. If someone came at me with that kind of attitude and sarcasm, I'd tell them to take a hike. Guess that's why I'm not in sales.

    Good story though jmonroe.

SM: I don’t know why we have reduced this car like we have. It’s one of the most popular cars on the road and should sell itself but we kept reducing the price anyway.

I wouldn't say Nissan is exactly blowing Altimas out of the door! When I hear statements like that I would be tempted to leave, or ask for another $100 off just for having to endure this idiot.

The last column shows percentage increase over year to date July 31st. Note Ford F has a 34% increase, Elantra up 41%, Sonato 45%, Fusion 25% RAV4 24%, Malibu 41%,
Rogue 21%, even Corolla 11% so the Altimas 12% increase over a very poor year isn't exactly like they are melting off the lot.

    Close, but not quite;

The Monkees, which aired from 1966 to 1968. The members were Americans Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, Peter Tork, and Englishman Davy Jones,
