Just took the Jeopardy test again - third time around on the online test. The first time I got to do the live interview and such and was in the contestant pool but didn't get called. Second time they hand picked categories about which I knew nothing. This one seemed OK. Out of people who pass the test they then randomly pick those for the next step and you might go a year before they say anything - or they might not say at all. We will see. Maybe I can win enough to buy my OWN floor mats!

That's just marvelous! It has always been my favorite show. I started watching it back in the '60s. Back then, it came on during the lunch hour. We had a little TV in the teacher's lounge. I would take my 30 minute lunch break and eat my peanut butter and jelly sandwich while watching the show. I was so glad when they switched to an evening time slot.
When you land a spot on the show, tell Alex that Edmunds trained you here on a variety of topics: health issues, politics, history, sports, psychology, child rearing, travel, household products and research, accounting, banking, and even automobile manufacturing and design. When viewers hear this, our ratings will go through the roof!
That's great, fezo! I watch pretty much every day, and it's my favorite game show by far. I'm afraid to take the online test and find out just how ignorant I really am when it comes to certain categories (especially anything science-y).

I took the test about 20 years ago (well before the online version!) Had to go to Atlantic City. they had a ball room, and you got a SAT style bubble answer sheet. They had a screen set up, and kept running through questions.
at the end, they collected the sheets, and you waited a bit for them to be scored, then they called back a (much smaller) number of people of face to face tests. And no, I did not get to the 2nd round!
Never did get past the initial phone call test for Millionaire either...
On this topic, my sister and nephew were on the price is right yesterday. Did not get to go up and bid, but they were in the audience, and got a lot of face time when they panned (had seats right behind contestant row). Almost like knowing someone famous! And quite weird to see someone you know like that.
Just my luck we'll get on the same day and the categories will be Kentucky, Law, BMWs, Mazda repair....
I think I did OK but they always throw in a ballet question and an obscure art question.
I did have one slow firing neuron episode where it took all the time I had to come up with Rupert Murdoch's name....
When I was in college my roommate and I fixed up an old TV and would watch Jeopardy at noon with a big chunk of the dorm hanging out in there. Of course we'd also watch Green Acres....

Ford Motor Co sued luxury auto maker Ferrari on Wednesday for trademark infringement after Ferrari named its 2011 Formula 1 racing car the “F150.”
Ferrari’s F150 logo bears striking resemblance to the one on Ford’s F-150 pickup truck, the top-selling vehicle in the United States, Ford said in a complaint filed in federal court.
“The choice of name stems from Ferrari’s desire to pay tribute to this year’s one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the unification of Italy,” Ferrari said, according to a Jan. 25 press release
Did they really think people would confuse the two?
I'd guess it isn't about confusing the two, it is about defending trademarks as precedent.
Maybe they have a case later, and the defendant says "Hey Ford, you didn't say anything to Ferrari when they used your trademark, so why pick on us?" Maybe the case gets thrown out as a result, I don't know. Goofy, yes, but I can understand there could be reasons why Ford is doing it.
Did they really think people would confuse the two?
Probably not but in order to maintain ownership of a trademark one must vigorously defend it. If Ford let Ferrari use it then it would be just a little bit harder the next time someone else tried to use it. Even the typeface was similar - go to www.ferrarif150.com and check out the typeface in Scudderia Ferrari. Looks alot like the F150 typeface.
In an update, Ferrari has backed down and will use the full name F150th Italia. Ford has not agreed to accept that yet.
It's kind of funny because Ferrari is one of the strongest protectors of its brand and trademarks. They sued one guy who stretched his Ferrari into a limo. They didn't want the their name or logo on the vehicle because it was no longer what they had made.
Maybe Ford learned their lesson when Pep Boys sued and won when Ford wanted to name what is now the Fusion the Futura.
Back on Jeopardy, like stickguy I did the paper test stuff pre-Internet in AC. Better yet, right when I got out of college I went into NYC one day just to poke around with no agenda and while there decided to check out about the Jeopardy test (the old Art Fleming show was based in New York). Turns out they were doing a test within the hour so I took it the. They had these heavy cardboard signs that looked just like the old Jeopardy boards and ran us through the questions.
I thought I did pretty well. They told us at the time that if we didn't hear in six weeks we were in and just wait for a call. Six weeks went by. In the seventh week I get a :sorry, no" letter and the next week the show went off the air!

I was checking out some nice pictures of Ferraris and I got really bad Pop Ups coming up all over the place. Mostly, they say you have a virus, click to buy our anti-virus software. There is a Buy and a Don't Want Anti-Virus button.
I emailed our Internet expert guy at work and he gave me some Malware anti-virus protection that is working away right now, hopefully cleaning up these stupid pop ups.
I have learned a few things. Firefox will give you a little more protection than Internet Explorer. If a warning comes up that the site could be dangerous, you have to assume that it is. Don't press any buttons, the bad guys know that you will probably press "don't install" but both buttons will start their garbage pouring in. The IT expert says press the back arrow and just leave the site completely.
I won't go on any risky sites again. Right now Malware is cleaning stuff up, but our IT guy said it could take 3 hours or more.
Run the free editions of Malwarebytes, Norman Malware Cleaner, and SUPERAntiSpyware in Safe Mode with Networking(if possible- otherwise run them in Safe Mode) finish up with a Microsoft Security Essentials or AVG scan. Whatever you do, DON'T buy the Webroot anti-virus suite. It sucks. Hard. It's a resource hog and it incorrectly identifies other known good programs as spyware or as a virus and disables them- often requiring a reinstall of the good program. But it had no problem allowing one of those "anti-virus" pop-up worms onto my laptop...

I know zero about computers, but I can tell you this. My neighbor installed Malware on my new computer and I have had no pop ups since. He also installed McAfee security. It does a periodic check and gives me a report. It is also good about warning me of dangerous sites. My neighbor said the same thing as your IT guy---press the back arrow and get the hell out of Dodge.
If you have another computer lying around the house that you're not currently using - say, an older machine that doesn't have the juice to run Windows 7 - I'd suggest installing Ubuntu Linux on it. After you've downloaded the appropriate file (Desktop Edition or Netbook Edition), burn it to a CD as an .iso image file & then boot your PC from it. Installation takes about 45 minutes & is largely a hands-off affair after you've answered a few basic questions (language, time zone, etc.).
Bundled into the distribution are Firefox & Google's Chromium (the open-source version of Google's Chrome browser for Windows). You'll also get the OpenOffice suite, which works with just about all Microsoft Office files.
With Linux, you won't have to worry about malware & viruses - at least not for now. (Nothing is forever, unfortunately.) Ubuntu's interface is clean & intuitive. If you have any experience with Windows, you'll have no trouble getting around.
I use my Ubuntu box whenever I'm visiting an (ahem) questionable web site. Best of all, it's absolutely free.
I've used Ubuntu on an older machine. It was ok, but I got frustrated with some things and ended up going back to XP Pro. I should give it another chance, someday.
How long ago did you try Ubuntu? The latest release is 10.10 & it's very slick.
If your PC is really low powered - you inherited it from Aunt Agnes & it's still running Windows 98 - consider Xubuntu, which is a lighter weight version of Ubuntu.
Run the free editions of Malwarebytes, Norman Malware Cleaner, and SUPERAntiSpyware in Safe Mode with Networking
I did the Malwarebytes thing and it works like a charm...and I thank you and others who commented. I was looking at some Ferraris and i think that is what did it. I got a lot of Viagara and porno.com sites popping up so I don't know if my wife believes I was looking at Ferraris.
From now on I'll stick with the name brand sites and never keep going when I get a warning.
It seems to be, when I tried to solve the problem myself, that I saw using Firefox would put up a better barrier - with warnings, than Internet Explorer. Does anyone know if that is true?
Make a note though...Malwarebytes works great if you ever need it.
I agree with the "no electronic problems" reports. As a previous Toyota owner that actually got rid of a new Avalon because the news scared my wife enough not to drive it.
The problem, as I have said all along, is pedal position. The gas pedal is slightly angled to the right and the brake is higher than the gas. In a hurry drivers, used to US cars will hit the gas thinking they're hitting the brake. I've done it, but only for a second. My Ford Escape has no such problem.
...I don't want to read through a couple hundred toaster and computer posts.
Tell me if any of you folks down south have been hit with another snow storm while we in the north have been snow free. I need to know that there is at least one reason for staying in this cold misery up here.

s I have said all along, is pedal position. The gas pedal is slightly angled to the right and the brake is higher than the gas.
And that was the exact same problem with Audis when they supposedly had the same problem.......the brake pedal was in a different position.
Amazing how many people don't adapt to that, and then blame the car when they step on the gas instead of the brake. Of course, it seems the floor mats could have been part of the problem too.
Tell me if any of you folks down south have been hit with another snow storm

If you are considering a Sonata you might consider a Fusion. I liked my Kia Optima rental last year, but I really like this Fusion I have. Explorer is right, it has a fair bit of power if you stomp on it a bit. This car would be a blast with a turbo!
