I get out of my car with it running I lower the driver's window. My car has the keyless BS and I just don't trust it.
What a great idea! When I take the bimmer to the do it yourself car wash I unlock all the doors and take the key out of the ignition........who knows what could happen, the doors could just happen to be in the lock position.
But, I do like that idea of lowering the window if you want to leave the engine running................I learned something very valuable today.
Yesterday I learned how to play nasty tricks on your spouse by telling her you just bought a new car.
You're right. He really needs to cruise in one of those TC's.
I saw one of those TCs yesterday and they are massive. I don't think I would actually buy one because although we have an oversized garage, it wouldn't leave much room to get around it.....and then things like parking, finding a spot, parallel parking etc. I just find any car that big is inconvenient in many ways...and a lot of cars have enough room inside without being that big.
I would like to rent one for a few hours though....I do think that it would be fun. I don't remember driving such a big tank before in an actual car. In recent history, just a Ford 500 and a full size Buick rental, but they aren't quite the same.
Leaving the door open a bit would help save getting locked out. As long as your wife isn't in the car listening to the chime going constantly.
oh yeh, Happy Valentines Day too! And happy birthday to those celebrating today!
You'd probably have had better luck if this discussion wasn't hosted by me. So sad... perhaps you'd have received more sympathy from steve_ or kyfdx.

Just turn the car off when you get out and take the keys. NP that way.
speaking of the DIY car wash (for Driver), one day I was at one near my house, getting change, and saw a car tear out from the exit (way too fast). Right behind it, a lady running and yelling. And shortly after, a cab goes tearing after it.
Yup, some lady pulled into the bay, and left the keys in (probably running too) and went to the change machine, and some dude decided to help himself to it. The cabbie must have seen it happen, and decided to chase him.
Never did find out exactly what was the end result of that incident. But I never usually left the keys in the car when I got out, and sure haven't since!
then again, I drive a stick, so probably nothing to worry about.
Thanks. To show you that my friendship is in the right place, I'll even go with Mrs. Jmonroe to assit in picking out something really nice for your dining room. :shades:

I had the use of the one owned by my school when I did a long distance run (250 miles RT) to a special needs school several years back. The Chrysler TC was pretty comfortable for distance driving. Got about 25mpg @ 65mph with the cruise on.
Ever since Snake bought his Sonata I've been seeing them everywhere. White is a good color for that car, much better than the light or dark grey.

No one here with an almost impossible to lock your keys in Honda? The key in the ignition with the car off won't allow you to lock the door. The only way to lock yourself out is to have the key lying on the seat or floor.
Speaking of Hondas out 00 Accord with 200+K on it finally gave up its transmission. Putting a used one in and I think swearing off further repairs. Telling my daughter to start saving for the next car. If nothing else I need a story....

No one here with an almost impossible to lock your keys in Honda?
One of my first cars was a Dodge Coronet. It was impossible to lock your keys in the car. To lock the door you had to use the key in the door, if you tried to lock the door and close it the action of closing the door unlocked it.
2011 Hyundai Sonata, 2014 BMW 428i convertible, 2015 Honda CTX700D
Congrats on the new Sonata. My wife loves that bluetooth feature in her Escape. Can't tell you how many times I hear the garage door open, but that's it. Sometimes after a while, I go to the garage just check, and she is just sitting there in the car talking to her sister.

Been a while since I tried, but you used to be able to hold the inside door release open and then hit the door locks, regardless of where the actual key was.
Keep in mind this is a deliberate step, so not too likely that you would lock the doors by accident with the keys inside.
did this all the time as a valet before every car in the world came with a remote.
Well, it's not done yet but we're nearing a grand. $700 of that is the part. I'm sure this is more than the car is worth but we'll give it this one last shot. A rebuilt trans with a warranty is $1,800! This is a manual.

Fez, I have no idea if you could lock your keys in a honda (and I have 3, if you count an acura). Since I am pretty sure the only way (in 6 years) I have ever locked the car is with the fob, unlikely I will ever lock the keys in the car!
when I got the Acura from my sister, one thing she mentioned as an "issue" was that sometimes when you hit the lock button and slammed the door, it would pop back open. I did not care, since I could not understand why you would want to do that!
I do know that VWs used to be impossible. My friend had a 1986 Golf, and the only way to lock it was key in the outside hole. Of course, this was the same car that you could easily open by sticking a screwdriver through the door right below the key hole (in the door handle). He lost a couple stereos that way!
Your daughter must have really worked hard to kill the manual box in that car.
But, if the new one doesn't work out, don't forget I am giving you first dibs on my 2005. Just about to tick over 60K, and going in for an oil change this week.
Thanks guys for the birthday wishes. Though I don't enjoy gaining another year, it does beat the alternative. My mind says that I'm still 18, but the body says something a bit different. It's too bad that I didn't have the wisdom and experience at age 18 that I have now. I could have made some great decisions then. Still, that may have taken some of the fun and adventure out of life.
My friend had a 1986 Golf, and the only way to lock it was key in the outside hole
I thought Hondas were like that too. My step-brother had an 87 Accord LXi and it was just like the Golf you mentioned. I guess at some point they did away with that.
Since I am pretty sure the only way (in 6 years) I have ever locked the car is with the fob, unlikely I will ever lock the keys in the car!
try leaving the engine running, get outside of the car, close the door, then see if you can get back in.
That's when the Fusion door locked on me. Yesterday I was getting gas at the self serve gas station (a bit tricky because if I use the credit card it asks for my zip code and I don't have a U.S. zip code that goes with my Canadian Visa card - so my wife has to go in and stand next to the cashier to show we won't be running off without paying) and I took the keys out and put them in my pocket, not taking any chances with that car ever again.
Still like it though, and it gets 30 mpg highway and 27 mpg city.
You have to unlock the car to get out, so I would think it would stay unlocked?
That's what I thought too. Remember, the reason I stopped in the first place was to see why the FILLER CAP HASN'T BEEN CLOSED PROPERLY warning came on. Also, the car doesn't have an actual filler cap, when the nozel goes in it pushes the blocker out of the way. I thought I would jump out, stick a pen or my finger into the filler pipe, get back in and drive away.
Since it is a rental I wasn't that concerned, but when the warning is on you can't see the odometer and other warnings, so I just wanted to try to fix it quick and fast, and I did leave the engine running. I don't like to leave the motor running, and I am never certain about leaving keys in the car, but I thought I would be out of the car for 20 seconds. My wife doesn't like the chime going constantly if I leave the door open. I should try it again to see if the door locks again, but since I have two sets of keys for the car.....on the same chain...I will separate them first! :shades: .
I have no idea why the door should lock at al just because the engine is onl.
I thought Hondas were like that too. My step-brother had an 87 Accord LXi and it was just like the Golf you mentioned. I guess at some point they did away with that.
All you had to do on the old Hondas, was flip the lock closed, while holding the inside door handle open... then, close the door, and it was locked without using the key....
I went five years, and never locked the keys in the car with mine... until someone showed me that... locked them up in there, the very next week..
All you had to do on the old Hondas, was flip the lock closed, while holding the inside door handle open... then, close the door, and it was locked without using the key....
My 95 Accord was like that. Someone told me about holding the inside handle and that worked like a charm. I don't think I ever locked myself out though.
Another person at work had a similar Accord. I guess she locked her keys in her old car all the time and bragged about how helpful her new Accord was in that regard. I was told that we could never tell her about the inside handle trick lest she go back to her old ways.
All you had to do on the old Hondas, was flip the lock closed, while holding the inside door handle open... then, close the door, and it was locked without using the key....
Wow, I never heard of that. It would certainly have been more convenient.

OK, had cataract surgery on my left eye yesterday and it was a blazing success ! My vision in that eye has gone from being very dim and blurry to matching the 20/20 distance vision in my right eye. Amazing !!
Total time at the doctor's office was about an hour and a half and the procedure itself took about 15 minutes and was completely easy and painless. Now I just have to take it easy for 1 week, which will be easy for me !
It's amazing what laser surgery can do these days. I had laser corrective surgery about 7 years ago. Went from about 20/500 to 20/20 in 2 weeks (one surgery/eye/week).
I paid full boat for mine given that it wasn't covered under insurance. A little short sighted (pun intended) by the insurance companies if you ask me. I was spending ~$400-$500/year on eye exams, glasses, and/or contacts anyway. They were covering 1/2 of that bill.
It was easy-peazy. The most troublesome part was smelling that "slight burning" while they were lasering my eye. Plus, weird being able to (blurily) see your own eye surgery while it was happening.
OK, had cataract surgery on my left eye yesterday and it was a blazing success
Glad everything went well.
I had the cataract in my right eye removed in July of 2010. So far so good. The left eye isn’t nearly as bad as the right eye was and since we seem to adjust for a cataract, as it slowly grows, I didn’t even think I had a problem until I went for a routine eye exam and was informed about it. The weird thing now is when I cover my right eye and look at a light with the left eye, there is a faint yellow haze. When I do the opposite the light is crystal clear.
My youngest grandson came to visit me at home the afternoon following my surgery and liked the pirate look I had with the patch that you wear for a day. He can’t wait until I have the left eye done.
Cost me $300. out of pocket.
That was for the pirate look; otherwise it would have been free.

I had laser vision treatment about 12 years ago and I love it. No more lost glasses, or sitting on them, or carrying around extra sets of glasses, sunglasses-reading glasses-regular glasses. No more getting up and not being able to see the clock. No more falling asleep and find I am sleeping on my glasses. No more having to buy new glasses to keep up with the current style.
You are right, insurance companies should gladly pay for laser vision surgery. It costs more to keep replacing glasses.
