$1700/1800 which is better than the $800/900 dealer phone offer prior to seeing it based on his description.
I would guess that dealers are always going to give the lowest possible price for a trade in...over the phone. I am sure I am not talking about your son here, but can you imagine the shape some people would say their car is in compared to what shape the car is actually in?
I can't picture a car dealer salesman saying this over the phone, "Wow, if the car is in that good of condition we'll just have to give you top price for it!".
Slight correction: William and Harry were driven in a maroon Bentley; Kate in a black Rolls.
Glad you corrected me. I was pretty bleary eyed at 5:50 am and only saw Kate's car. At first I thought it was William in the car with her before I realized that wouldn't be right. I didn't see William arriving, but I'll watch for it on the news.
It was great to see...I am glad I saw it! That was quite the church too!
Nice to see something positive going on in the world..............
j...as kyfdx noted, we're talking about Sweeney. I have dealt with them, on their Chevrolet and BMW side. I know "roadburner" doesn't like them. But, they've always been great to deal with when I've had the opportunity.
I think they've got a Subaru dealership, too. I know they've got a Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge dealership across from their BMW store.
I'm thinking they've been a little un-nerved in recent years. They've lost both Plymouth and Saturn brands. That had to represent at least 10% of their volume, I would think.
They also have a pretty nice used store north of the city.
kyfdx...I think I stumbled over one of your beer cans when I was shopping for Chevies....LOL! :shades:
Where did you go to school....Springdale? Princeton? St Gabes?
The event was very enjoyable---positive and uplifting.
I'll give it that...... I just have a serious problem with our media in this country. I get up my normal 6AM to catch a bit of local news/weather/traffic and this is on every single station. Meanwhile, 200+ people lost their lives in the tornados in the south and no mention on how its going down there just a wedding in another country. This is not a news event, it shouldn't be covered as one. If an entertainment station wants to cover it, fine, but the major networks just cover to attract viewing and advertising dollars.
"I'd like to have the money that is being spent on the security alone for that spectacle."
There were 5,000 security people. At say $10 per hour for an eight hour shift, you're looking at roughly $400,000.
Amazingly, the Royal Family only spent $160,000 on the wedding. This is because the staff, Beefeaters, bands, horses, carriages, etc. are a permanent part of the monarchy. Their main expense is a finger food luncheon for 600 and a party this evening for 300. The two other expenses mentioned were the flowers and the wedding dress as a gift to Kate. The dress was probably a third of the total amount. Due to the economy, there was some effort put forward to cut down on expenses.
Yes, the tornados have been very bad. We had terrible storms all day yesterday with some minor damage for us. I will say that the media covered it all day. I don't know Tom. I guess the world is so depressed that they're tired of hearing such bad news all of the time. So many people around the world looked forward to this wedding. They reported that two billion people watched it from around the world, with one million people in London for the event. It's an escape mechanism, a chance to see a fairy tale come true. I do agree with you that we shouldn't ignore what is happening to our fellow citizens in this country. We were shut off from them for four hours. At least it wasn't as bad as when Michael Jackson died. You couldn't get other news then for at least a week. The media certainly thrives on emotion, making money, and dictating what we will and will not see. That doesn't even take into account how they put their own slant on the news. I'm from the Chet Huntly/David Brinkley generation. They reported the news; they didn't try to make it the way that they wanted it. Your concern and compassion for others is noted. I highly respect that.
Richard, I almost deleted that post after I wrote it. I came across angry and in a bad tone. I just get frustrated by things like this. Thanks, for rationalizing it and I do agree the world does need something other than bad news all the time.
We have some friends where the husband never trades. He just keeps the old cars and lines them up at the end of their rear property. It drives the wife crazy. She claims that it looks unsightly to her and ruins the looks of their colonial home.

That's a far cry from what I heard when I got home last night. Mrs. j said that she heard on the TV that this wedding will cost 35M. She thought that was way too much given that people in the world are starving and they are concerned with the type of Hors d'oeuvres being served. I tried to calm her down by saying the Royal Family probably gives plenty to charities and she answered that by saying, “then they could give more if they weren’t flaunting this spectacle to everyone”. I bowed out right there.

My understanding is that the Middletons are footing about six figures for the wedding and first reception. The queen and Charles are paying for the evening reception.
Security costs are around $32 million. The problem is that today was declared a bank holiday hence the security gets double time for working.
Florence is my wife's home town. She graduated from Boone County High School. I am getting a lot of assignments in northern KY these days. Over the past six months I've had dockets in Boone, Campbell, Kenton, and Gallatin counties- and I've got some cases scheduled in Owen county in May and June.

The real cost to the economy could be more like 5 billion pounds or 7.5 billion dollars...if you include all the business activity closed down for the day, since it is a holiday.
But, if the actual cost is $35 million remember the Royal Family brings in about $800 million a year in tourist dollars....every year!
I am not a monarchist but this is a once in a lifetime event, and it makes the world a nicer place.
Something else to think about (in my opinion).....I think many countries owe a big thank you to Britain because they adapted a tremendous system of laws and government from the British......the best in the world. Without the British template for a judicial system and a form of democratic government, we (U.S. and Canada) might have copied from countries that have much worse systems.
And, we have this tremendous language which is very functional. And without it, Richard might not have had a job all those years.
Wasn't sure where I was going fit this in , but here goes. My favorite movie was never released in the theaters because 'Diana' lost her life in an event that was very similar to a scene in the movie. The movie is 'Ronin'. Great 'guy' movie. Robert Di Nero plays a part that was perfect for Steve McQueen. The movie was directed by John Frankenheimer who was a former Formula 1 driver. I went to wedding once where people were lined up to kiss "The Godfather's ring". That was a serious wedding.

E-gads. All of these figures in the millions. Leave it to Katie Couric to tell me wrong. Perhaps she meant the Royal Family only spent $160,000 of their personal money. It did seem awfully low to me. Oh, well. "Let them eat cake." as they say. He is the future king and Kate is a lovely Duchess, Princess, Prince, or Lady depending on which of her titles you prefer. I hope that their lives turn out better than what happened to William's parents. They both seem mature and have had eight years to figure how it works. As a hopeless romantic, I'm sure that they will do fine.
A truly excellent post---logical and well put. I agree with every word, especially the part about my having employment for 40 years. This was one of your best.
That was kind of you to take the time to write your comments. I wasn't sure if I should actually post those thoughts. Can you imagine if our great countries did not adopt the British form of government? We probably wouldn't be driving around in the nice cars we do...we would probably have Toyota trucks and guns and missiles and would be fighting in the streets for our freedom.
What field of work are you in? (My company is very big on the 'Rule of Law')
You know what was really amazing to me, at least as a young person who is going to be getting married in the near future?
How ordinary it seemed for such a highly publicized event. They really seemed human the way they handled it, rather than basking in the limelight and make it clear how royal they were. I'm not sure if that makes any sense.
As I was fast forwarding through the highlights of it on my DVR, I felt as though I might have been watching the wedding of two of my friends.
2025 Jetta GLI Autobahn, 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xE
I think that is why I was so impressed---the usual vows, some flowers, a simple wedding dress---when it could have been much more elaborate. Being the future king and queen of a major country, one has to expect some pomp and circumstance, Still, I felt that they kept things as basic as one could in such a situation. Also, those who know them seem to think that they are a sincere, genuine couple. It gives you a nice feeling, and faith in our young people of today.
So when is your big day? I'm happy for you. You have your whole lives ahead of you---chances for a wonderful relationship, new family members, children, etc. Though I am a hopeless romantic, marriage does take osme work. There will be some compromises to make from time to time; no two people will always agree. When you get upset, try to remember to ask yourself if the issue will really be that important in the grand scheme of things. Most people can't even remember what an argument was about after a few days. In addition, make time for yourselves---as a couple and as an individual. Jobs and other pressures are not what the marriage is about; it's about the two of you. Above all, make your own decisions. Family members mean well, but it's your marriage and your lives. Ultimately, you know what is best for your situation. I can't stress that enough. Advice is a good thing from others, but you must make decisions based on your own discussions and priorities. You both will make some mistakes, but that's fine. The universe will align itself and you will go forward again. As the marriage progresses, you'll realize that happiness and peace of mind are really the important things to share with one another. Hopefully, you'll grow old together---your mate, your friend, your companion, and your true love. Working at it is so worth the price. Best of luck to you.
Very nice. I wonder what the reserve is on that one? I bet it's a bit more than the last bid.
I keep having thoughts about getting the V-6 with Performance Package. I think I could die happy with that one especially if gas stays high. I love the IDEA of getting the GT but in reality I think it's too much car for regular street use.
I wonder if Roadburner is going to get the new Boss 302? Autoweek ran one against a BMW M3 and it held up quite well. At $41K it's about $20K less than an M3.

Thank you for the kind words. Our big day will be next year after I have taken the bar exam. I don't want to have to stress out about an upcoming wedding when I need to be studying for the bar, which will dominate much of my time.
I, too, am a hopeless romantic. I'm confident we will succeed, as neither of us is going into this blindly. Our parents have been great role models (both have been happily married for 25 and 30 years respectively) and support systems for us, but in the end it is our decisions for what is best for us.
