sticker of almost 38 grand. Yowzah!

The 6 cyl @ 306 HP is enough for most people. I drove one.
Higher first gear in A/T (for better mileage). Pulls strong at 60+.
In other words, not much of a tire smoker, but plenty of power.

Both have dual exhaust. The real difference is the V8 sound.

I'll go for the V6 at $24-27k and 30MPG. Driver will tell us if it has road feel.

    Don't feel bad. I don't know what a 300C is. Pontiac, Nissan...no idea.

    "I don't know what a 300C is."

I'm glad that I'm not alone. I just can't remember all of these numbers and letters for car models. When we purchased the Cadillac, I kept telling myself to try to remember SRX. IMO, something like Dodge Dart or Plymouth Fury was much easier to remember than today's numbers and letters.

Richard, It's really 'Bullitt'. When looking up the spelling, I watched the chase scene. The sound of the cars will never be topped.

When the British do it right they can make beautiful cars...that never go out of style....in fact they look better the older they get.

I think I know what you mean. The wedding had class, it was traditional and understated. No fireworks, no clown costumes, no circus animals, just a very dignified wedding and with what seems like 2 very nice people.

The last Mustang I drove was a 1984 and I was not very impressed. I tried a Camaro next and there was no contest....I bought the Camaro.

However, the new Mustangs seem to be much better and the reviews look pretty good. I would consider one, but I would like to take it for a test drive first....the 84 I tried should have been an embarrasment to Ford to even try selling them.

My last trip to Italy (2001) I had a BMW 325i rental car.

Nice enough car, got it up to 155 Km/H on the Autostrada.

    Road feel?...maybe, not sure.

I went over some railroad tracks at 60 in a Mustang. Got airborne.

I heard the metal scraping. I'm sure there were sparks flying.

Now that car really "felt the road".

Of course you are correct. I was thinking gun bullets rather than Steve McQueen's character named Bullitt. I'll never forget going to see that movie in 1968, My best friend and his little boy went with me. Right before the chase scene, the little boy had to go to the restroom. My friend returned just as the chase scene ended. We stayed over and watched it again. We were late meeting our wifes for dinner---no cell phones then. They were furious, and certainly didn't understand why we would stay to just see a car chase again. Funny the things that you remember.

Maybe it was the "feel of the tracks".

There was a rusty dented up Lincoln Town Car parked next to me in the parking lot yesterday. I was really tempted to offer him $20 to let me drive it around the block. When I came out he was gone....I think it would depend on if he was with other people, if he had kids, and how big he was.

I remember thinking the Chrysler (was it a Baraccuda or something?) just kept falling apart...it must have lost about 12 hubcaps during the race.....and Steve McQeen's Mustang was in pristine condition.

Ford must have paid more for product placement.

"...base GT with a sticker of almost $38 grand..."

Yowzah indeed. Edmunds says the Mustang base GT with stick MSRP is just over $29K. That must have had every option under the sun.

That angers me when dealers load up cars and put them beyond your budget. I don't need NAV systems, Bluetooth or back up cameras. I just want to drive the darn car, not go to the moon in it.

You either get stuck paying for options you don't want or paying more for a dealer trade or factory order.

My 1986 Toyota pick-up came with a $500 stereo which I didn't want. When I sold that old rust bucket 14 years later, the tag was still on the bass/treble knob as I never had listened to anything but AM.

Nope, Snakeweasel is a family nickname I had from the 60's, my sisters nicknames were:

    Snotnose
    Stork
    Arnold

Stork has one child a daughter named "Fish, son of Stork".
Arnold also has one child a daughter named "ABA" (Anything But Arnold).

All these names given to us by a cusion whom we nickname "Hop Sing".

I spent hours on Saturday cleaning my Prelude inside & out. I thoroughly wiped down the interior, washed, clay barred, & waxed the exterior (Using my Griot's Garage 6" Random Orbital - what a pleasure).

I typed up a "For Sale" sign & parked my car in a Park & Ride along side a highly traveled road where I've seen other used cars for sale on the weekends.

I got one call on Sunday afternoon at about 3:05 pm while on my way to a friend's BBQ. My cell phone rings and there is a man with a very thick Indian accent on the phone. He asks me a few questions about the car, then asks if he could see it now. "I live right around the corner & can be there in 2 minutes."

"OK, I'm on my way to visit a friend. I'm going to turn around & be there in 5 minutes."

I got there by 3:10 pm & waited until 3:25 pm. The guy calls me at 3:55 pm & says he's waiting by the car & wants to know where I am.

I politely told him that I waited for him & that if he would like, I'll set up an appointment & meet him sometime during the week.

He says: "Just forget about it."

I don’t have much in the way of details and I’m not going to ask him what he paid because it isn’t any of my business but he knows how to shop for a car so I’m sure he knows how to do it.

It’s a done deal and while I don’t know what he paid he SAID he got a good deal. The deal he wanted, the options they had to have and a color his soccer mom wife liked, Burgundy with a tan interior.

However, now I’m not so sure he knows how to negotiate. Because of this:

Before he made the drive to Florence Ky he was considering getting the extended power train warranty to 100K miles (certified car as I understand this) so he called a few local Kia stores and asked them IF they had the van he wanted (Sedona EX, V6), what would the price be for that? All of them (3) said around $1000. So, to me that is MSRP for this warranty. After he gets the local price he calls the dealer in Florence on Friday morning and asks them what they want for this extended warranty and they said the same thing. He then asks what they really want for this warranty and they said, “that’s the price, we can’t do better”. Since we had discussed this on Wednesday I thought he knew how to go about getting a better price. I said to him, “I don’t know what the price is, you’ll have to research this, but if it’s all that important to you make the sale contingent on them giving you a better price than the first words out of their mouth. You’re a real buyer with a credit card deposit holding the car so you’re not just some guy fishing for a better price over the phone. Everything is negotiable. I hope you know that.”

He decided to just buy the Sedona without the extended warranty and justified this by saying, “It’s probably not worth the money even if I would have gotten them down to $750”. That may be true but if the dealer would not have lowered his price, if it were me, I would not have bought the car. I would have made the decision based on a lower than MSRP price rather than just giving up.

I wish him all the luck with his purchase and he probably has a very reliable van but I thought he knew better how to go about buying a car.

No such animal, as far as I know. If you are referring to the Chrysler that preceded the 300C, that was the 300M.

I'm really surprised so many folks don't know what a 300C is. That doesn't bode well for Chrysler since it is the best car they offer.

I once read that the worst way to sell a car is with a sign and a phone number on the car. It devalues the car because it looks like it isn't worth selling by spending some money for an ad. If someone does call they won't be the kind of buyer you are looking for...who is seriously looking at ads.

So, I think you can try the sign.....but an ad would be much better. There might be people who really want that car, and will pay top dollar to get it...but, probably that person won't be a drive by guy looking for a cheap car.

Clarence Darrow once said a wise and wonderful thing - "I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure."

This is exactly how i am feeling today with the news of last night. It's not like we can let our guard down but at least for a minute we can breathe.

Some silly reporter asked if this put a period at the end of 9/11. Of course it doesn't, but it does provide a very nice comma - perhaps even a semicolon.

"...but I thought he knew better how to go about buying a car."

You have to remember that all of the training in the world doesn't make a person think the way that you do. While you and I try to think through things carefully, others may allow their personal preferences to cloud their judgment. I have been guilty of that myself.

I ran into the same type situation with my nephew. He and his wife wanted this $450,000 house, though I thought that they should wait a few years until they saved some more money. They have two little boys, and both had graduate school debts. At any rate, they were determined. My nephew asked my advice on several issues regarding the house purchase. I advised him on negotiating the house price, shopping the best rates, negotiating the attorney fees, lowering the closing costs, etc. Though he listened intently, he followed very little of the advice. His reasoning: It takes way too much time and hassle to nick pick those things just to save a few dollars. I guess my interpretation of a few dollars is different from his. There are times when young people just have to learn by experience.

With so many car brands today, all having style numbers and letters, it isn't surprising to me. When I was growing up, there were basically four companies---Ford, Chrysler, General Motors, and American Motors. Each company had maybe four styles of cars, each with a name vs. letters and numbers. It was pretty easy to recognize and remember them. Also, they put the style name on the car. Today, most cars don't have much written on the exterior of the car. You really have to look closely to figure out the brand and style.

Every one has a different way of evaluating a purchase. One person I know compares about 3 or 4 different items (if he is buying a car, a camera, a TV, etc.) then he picks the cheapest one.

Another person will buy the first one that has the features they want...price doesn't matter...speed and ease of purchase are of most importance.

Another person has to buy at least 2 items, take them home, ponder it over for 3 weeks, and then return the one they didn't want.

Young people aren't used to postponing their wants. They just want to do it and get it done. Our generation had it a little tougher, so I think we prefer to make sure we got the best price possible.

We have an election in Canada today. The Conservatives who have steered the country through the recession have done a great job of keeping the country prosperous during a bad world wide recession. The Liberals who should have come in an easy 2nd are falling way behind and the socialist New Democratic Party came up from obscurity and is just a few percentage points behind the Conservatives. Here, coalition governments are possible, so the socialist New Democratic Party could combine with the Liberals and the leader could become the Prime Minister.

Hope for us the socialist don't get in, they will ruin our country. Maybe the people will come to their senses when they actually have to vote. Right now the polls show the Conservatives at 36%, NDP (socialists) 33%, Liberals 19%.

Thought I would explain this in case you hear something about our election.

Unless their party name is actually socialist calling them that isn't helpful at all. The Republicans here started calling the Democrats socialists only after the younger generation didn't know what a communist was. It was just what Republicans called Democrats.

This is as opposed to what Democrats called Republicans which ranged from [non-permissible content removed] to Neanderthals (at least they have the ns covered).

It's always amusing that the supporters of any party will take the credit for when a business cycle favors them and throw the blame on the other guy when things are down. It's one of the few consistencies of our systems.

I actually like the idea of a parliamentary system. It at least forces some compromises and a bit more centered thinking. Of course if we had such a system in the us instead of the 44 presidents we'd be talking about the 198 prime ministers....
