2011 Hyundai Sonata, 2014 BMW 428i convertible, 2015 Honda CTX700D
Status Update-
Good: Heater box works fine
Bad: Screwed up and didn't get a good seal to the cowl/firewall- flunked the leak test
So... I have to remove it again and reinstall(it using a different sealing method). At least I checked for leaks before I installed the rest of the interior. In any case, I only wasted a couple of hours...

I think to most people it means engine/trans/interior (the core stuff). not of course that nothing was every changed due to wear out, etc.
Plus, there were plenty of options available. Just because a particular wheel or hood was not standard on that model, doesn't mean that someone did not special order it that way, or do it as an accessory when it came in or shortly after. So that hood just might be original to this specific car.

Here in hell (also called OK) October is prime convertible driving weather. OKC should tie the 1980 record for 100+ degree days today @50 and we still have 10 days of August to go.
One of my best friends got back from a trip to Colorado Spring from Indianapolis taken in a 1967 Austin Healey 3000 GT. He said that he and his wife just about died in western MO and KS (no AC in any of those convertibles). He had joined the AH Club and they had their annual "conclave" at Pikes Peak and CO Spring. To make matters worse his car developed a number of problems including a transmission collapse that disabled the car in CO. One of the members from his Indy chapter offered to trailer my friend's car back to Indy and let my friend drive his newly restored (a $70K job) 3000 GT, with 3 miles on the restoration, back to Indianapolis (a 1200 mile, two-day trip). How many of you would do that for someone you happen to know through a club! I was astonished. I will say that he has always been lucky that way although I do think he drove those 1200 miles very uncomfortably.

The one we are considering is the same color as the one in those pics... but, it's out of town, and haven't confirmed all the numbers, yet... so, still in the "possibility" stage..
But, the lease is up in two months, so have to get something, by then...

Yes it was a Mustang. By an odd turn of events I was driving home today and went past a Mustang in the EXACT same color. I could tell from the C pillar that it was the same vintage. Because I could see the entire car I could tell it was the last year before they went over to the Fox Body. Was that 73' or 74'?
What are the chances of passing a car that was your picture's exact double the very next day? Spooky, :surprise:

Try Plumber's GOOP. It's good for what ails ya. Half glue, half caulk, half sealant.

We are in the home stretch. Thursday all the granite went in, and Friday we got the powder room (right off the kitchen) and kitchen faucets put in. So, all that is left in the kitchen is to finish up the electric (outlets back in, dishwasher and microwave hooked up, under cab lights, stuff like that) and to put in the back splash. By the end of next week, the kitchen should essentially be done. We even started putting stuff away today, another milestone.
Overall, the transformation is incredible. Does not look like the same house. So far, the hassle and expense was worth it, and I know down the road at sale time it will pay off.
the master bath is getting close. Tile will be finished Monday, including grout. By mid week, all the fixtures will be in place. Had the guy measured for the frameless shower doors yesterday. So, by end of the week, that should be done too (except for the doors, which will take a couple of weeks).
with any luck, by next weekend, we will be done with workers trooping through the house making a mess (other than 1 day for the shower door install). I can't wait to reclaim my house, have a master bath I can use again, and mostly, get my garage back!
once it is all done I will set up a photo storage site and take some pictures. I have before ones also that I will post.
Best of all, between getting slammed at work at the worst possible time and dealing with this, I stopped even worrying about money, and just did what had to be done to do it right. Will figure out the damage later, but I think we may have overall moved past a base BMW X3, and could be encroaching on X5 territory!
a good example of "project scope creep": We intended to keep the current dishwasher until it died (it worked OK, so why not?) Well, the why was it looked like crap in the new kitchen! Funny, it looked fine in the old one...
the day the cabinets went in they put the DW in place, and we took one look and said together "dang, now we have to go buy a new (panel ready) one!
but, it really has gone pretty smoothly (other than some hell with finding a tile for the bathroom that actually was available), and considering a month ago today I was ripping up tile getting ready for demo to start, pretty quickly.

I will answer you in full when I have more time, but I truly thank you for your help. I will tell you a little bit of what happenned, but I'll write more when I have time.
We went to Dealer A just to look around the lot to get an idea about colors.
A greenpea came out, very unsure of himself. He did say if we wanted to know anything just let him know. He had to run to the manager every few minutes to get answers, but that was OK. The manager wanted to take over, and I said, no we are doing fine here with Clyde.
We were in that office for almost 3 hours. I gave a $5000 deposit and named my price which was about 10% discount on a 2012.
The manager came in and took over and started crying because he wouldn't make a profit at that level. I said, give me more for the trade...you have some room there.
I will fill you in on more later, but I took the paperwork with me. I have emailed Dealer B, told them what I want and I only want to know the difference I will have to pay. And, I put in a clause "If car is reduced in price from the 2011 I want that taken off the price of the new car".
I want to see if he comes up with the magic number Dealer A turned down.
He could be playing games too.
You guys have made me a pretty strong negotiater. I would not have gotten this far without your influence.
We'll see what happens. There's a lot more to talk about, when there is time.

I'm really glad that you're doing the before and after pictures. It will be fun to see the drastic change. When you get time, don't forget to separate the kitchen and bath expenses. You were going to give me a ball park figure on the bath. Guess we'll start this fall when the weather cools down a bit. Best wishes on the completion. You'll enjoy it all so much.

That guy was so nice to offer his $70K car to your friend. You wouldn't find that kind of gesture being issued very often. I can't imagine that road trip in the AH with no A/C. He's a better man than I am. Talk about stamina! Still, Pikes Peak and CO Springs was a great place for the rally. We really enjoyed our visit there so much.
I have been wanting to ask you a question. Is the old Presbyterian Church still down town in OKC? They were expecting to lose their church in 1982 when we were there. We have never forgotten their kindness and hospitality---such wonderful people. It was our first trip out West that year. On a hot July Sunday morning, we were passing through town and wanted to go to church. We looked terrible---both of us had on old t-shirts and faded shorts. I hadn't seen a razor in three days. Being 30 years younger, we had the nerve to stop at the Presbyterian Church and ask if we could come in for the service. We met in the fellowship hall. Membership had dropped so low that they were no longer using the sanctuary. These sweet people in their Sunday best took us right in and made us feel so at home. We even had lunch invitaitons afterward! We still have the printed church program from that visit. We've often thought about that church over the years. It caused us to have a warm spot in our hearts for Oklahoma. I was just wondering if you knew anything about the church. Thanks for listening.

Getting a speeding ticket and speeding are not related.
Sorry to hear about your experience. I was talking about the people who are clearly speeding.
Of course not. But by that same logic, do you want a world where there are no cops enforcing any traffic laws? That's a totally flawed argument.
Having said that, they shouldn't worry about people driving 5 mph over the speed limit. They want to raise funds? Fine the hell out of drunk drivers (and put them in jail too.)
* I went to salesman to get a ballpark figure...new car and trade in value
* Trade in price was a bit low....new car was full MSRP (this is dealer A).
* If I buy a 2011 they will knock off $1500. Big deal, it will be a year old in another month.
* Salesman calculates new car price, less trade, plus all extras. Asks will I buy it today, they will absorb any increase up to $2000.
* That means they are giving me $2000 discount if the price goes up that much.
* I write down a number a little on the low side, but I have no idea what their bottom line is.
* They come back up to half way, betweeen MSRP and my number.
* They say new ones won't be in until November and my convertible will be a hard sell in November. I don't agree completely. I bought mine in October, it is a HARDTOP convertible, fine in the winter, and, if you need a car and you want a convertible are you going to wait until the Spring to buy?
* Head honcho comes in. The greenpea was kind of nice, not slick, he was trying.
* Manager talks and looks like he is going to break my legs if I don't sign at his price.
* Says he has a 2011 exactly like what I am looking for, it's a demonstrator with 2200 miles on it.
* He will sell me that one for the price I wrote down the 2nd time, I came up half way between my original offer and their new offer.
* I told him, it is one year old. It isn't worth as much when I go to trade it in 4 years from now....it will be worth $6000 less. He said, Oh no, only $1000 less. The 2012 will be the same as a 2011.
* So he thinks I am going to pay $1500 less for a 2011, demonstrator with 2200 miles on it, and it wasn't the right color, than the offer the salesman drew up and put on the table, for a 2012.
When I got home, I wrote the salesman at Dealer B and didn't tell him any of this. I wrote...here is the car I want, you know my trade, give me the final difference. It might be lower than the magic number I wrote down, it might be higher than Dealer A, then I will be really sorry. At least I will know something. He said he would work on it and get back to me next week.
Dealer As price might have been good, but, I think it wasn't much of a discount, and they don't want to discount. Dealer B will give me a much better price and come close to what I wrote, or he is a talker who tells me he will give me a great price but won't actually do it.
This is a 335Xi meaning it is AWD and 300 HP with a turbo and sport traction for extra zip.
If I mess up I might wait until the Spring when the convertible might sell faster and I can test that 4 cylinder 328 with a turbo. That might even be enough car for what I need.
3 hours is a long time to spend with a car salesman...negotiating I mean. Socially could be different. I guess 3 hours with a life insurance salesman could be worse.

Went in for a final try at a deal today since I heard the 2012 GT was in.
Drove it about 10 minutes. Nice, but not as loud or powerful as I expected.
Anyway, last visit where he was stuck on sticker, I took his numbers and
Edmunds numbers and split the difference. I was sitting there with checkbook
and title. I was serious. He didn't budge. I said "did Gary ___ call you?". He said
he did and patted his folders. I said that was my BIL. I asked him to call for the
"internet price." He's not buying anything, just so you know. And why would you
give a better price to a guy on the phone than to a real customer in front of you?
He said we're giving so much on your trade. Bull, he was 500 under Edmunds
trade-in. I pushed my chair back to leave when he said "if I can get the owner to
come near your price is it OK to call you?" I said NO. This offer is good today only.
After this I'm on to bigger and better things. He and one other salesman were the
only ones besides me in the store. Owner was off. If he calls next week, all he'll hear
is "I have no further interest in your car." Oh well, You'll have that.

Do you mean First Presbyterian? It's NW of downtown on NW 25th and it's still there. It's about 20 blocks north and 5 blocks west of the OKC Memorial (where the Murrah Building used to be). You know, the explosion from the bombing could be heard here on the SW side of Stillwater and we're 65 miles away.
There are at least a half dozen other Presbyterian churches in the OKC metropolitan area. I'm guessing that you would have received a similar treatment from any one of them--a combination of Christian charity and southern hospitality.
Some of the towns you passed through may be ghost towns by now. It's hard to sustain agriculture west of I-35 because of low rainfall and so aquifers have been tapped for a long time. This year has been especially bad and reminiscent of the dust bowl era. About 2/3 of Ok is suffering under D4 (exceptional) Drought--the highest number. Most of the remaining 1/3 is under D3 (Extreme) or D2 (Severe). A huge part of Texas is in the same boat.
It has been suggested (but not well received) that people west of the 98th longitudinal meridian should be forced out and the area returned to tall grass prairie and a "buffalo commons". It may happen anyway much like the Okie migrations of the 30s--although there are far fewer small family owned farms. The suggested commons would stretch from OK through the western halves of KS, NE, SD and ND to the Canadian border
Gogiboy
Wow, they're really playing hardball--are they really in that short a supply or is this a manufactured shortage to drive up prices? Between you and driver it's a wonder anyone is buying a car. As you say, there is a wide range of choices to be had, but I know how set you were on the Mustang.
On a much smaller scale I was trying to buy a 21 year old bike frame from a fellow on Atlanta's craigslist. He didn't offer a price, but said that it cost "x" new and would entertain offers. So I offered what I thought a reasonable amount based on 20 years of depreciation and factoring in the good condition. I figured I'd come up perhaps $75 or $100 from my initial offer. Rather than counter, he said he didn't consider my offer to be a "real offer". No sweat off my back as I was just planning to hang the frame on a wall anyway. I honesty think he wanted what he paid for it 21 years ago--perhaps $50 or $100 less--it's not a collectible! This was more than a month ago and the bike frame is still listed on craigslist.
Gogiboy
That would be a good choice if I never wanted to remove the box again, but I -or some other unfortunate- will eventually need to. I think I'm going to go with 3M strip caulk; it's non-hardening and makes a good seal. The EPDM weatherstripping that I used must have gotten pinched or twisted during the installation.

Interesting point you just made. At the BMW dealer yesterday aftenoon and this morning, there weren't too many people looking. They said on the news the other day, when the markets go down the traffic in car dealers goes way down....when stocks go up then the traffic goes up.
I did think I might have a bit of an edge since the markets are down, and that affects people living on the interest from savings.
. No sweat off my back as I was just planning to hang the frame on a wall anyway
It's agreat feeling to be able to walk away if you don't like the deal. In my case the manager was getting pretty angry that I declined his pathetic deal...$1500 less for a one year older demonstrator. He went on about how he has to make a profit. I think he left out the words "big fat" profit that we are used to.

Sixty-five miles away and you could hear the explosion?! How horrible. It was a terrible day for America, and especially for the people of Oklahoma City. I always think of Oklahoma when I think of 9/11. It's hard for me to believe that 9/11 was nearly ten years ago. I'll never forget walking into the office lounge and seeing the second plane hit the Twin Towers.
I, too, thought of the Dust Bowl of the '30's as we traveled through the area. The poverty and human struggle seemed very evident to us. Unfortunately, the suggested commons may be the only solution for that area. Not to get political, but I wish that our government would give as much interest to the plight of our West as they do to other countries. So many Americans are suffering now.
Richard
That my friend is a good enough reason to walk. I refuse to take that kind of behavior from anyone in business. There are too many other choices and too many other dealers. I'm glad that you walked.
Richard
"Mako1a's pursuit of a Mustang got me looking at Ford's website. I clicked on their "inventory" section to see what was available locally. I was shocked to find that the three closest Ford dealers had ZERO Mustangs in inventory (2011 or 2012). As I went out further and further I would find a dealer who had a few but they were all loaded models. The V6 models stickered in the high $20Ks and all the GTs were $35K to $40K. Way beyond my comfort zone. All were premium trim levels. Almost every dealer that had ANY Mustangs also had at least one Shelby with a sticker in the upper $50K range.
So what's the deal? Is there a shortage? Do dealers only stock loaded models? Does every dealer have to take a Shelby as part of their allocation."
That your three nearest dealers had none somewhat shocked me also. So I went to my local Ford dealer, here in a small 30,000 pop. town in north Ok.
http://apps.dealerconnection.com/dealers/doengesfordonline/new-inventory?modelId- =225&lang=en#modelid=188&filters=All/All/All/All//10/BodyDesc/1/0
They have 4 2012's (one 'on order'). From a V6 at $30k (I guess that is 'loaded'?) to, yes, they have a Shelby at $57,000. But they do have Mustangs. Loaded Mustangs.
I've never exactly thought about this. McVeigh was mad about the Branch Davidian raid in Waco and Ruby Ridge shotout, which were carried out by ATF and FBI agents. The OKC Federal build had both these agencies inside. Plus other Federal agencies. Google it and go to the Wikipedia link, it has more info than I've read in print articles.
Don't you see about as nice daily at OSU?
If you're using IE in Windows you can just highlight the part you want to quote, then tap the 'I' button.
If someone switched out a hood, it isn't original.
And I don't believe the story about a family friend that got a Caddy motor ordered into his Chevy Biscayne. Unless someone very high in the executive ranks of GM became involved, non-standard items did not come out of the factory.
A year later, I move from Southern California to Phoenix to attend college. I moved in February; as the spring progressed the weather got warmer and warmer and I was getting more and more uncomfortable driving my car.
It finally got to the point where I sort of gave my parents an ultimatum - either I get A/C installed or I need to get sheepskin seat covers. Given the price delta at the time for the seat covers was several hundred dollars less, that's the direction I went. Drove the car for 2 1/2 more years and never really suffered from the multiple 100+ degree days. Rolled down the windows, opened the (aftermarket) sunroof, and off I went.
Why do I relate this story, almost 30 years later?
As you know, earlier this year I bought my wife a new Mazda CX-7 crossover. Silver, with black leather interior. This summer in Colorado hasn't been any warmer than what we've had in the past, except this time we have the black leather interior in our primary family vehicle, and I'm getting considerable blowback from the wife on how uncomfortable it is after it's been in the sun.
Given that I'm not gonna trade it in (sorry, fezo!), I'm in the market for some nice sheepskin seat covers.
(this would not be the time to say "I told you so" on the idea of a black leather interior)
A quick Google search turned up this website, which seems to have exactly what I'm looking for.
So a question or two for the esteemed folks on this board:
1) Do you recommend sheepskin, or is there another product you suggest? I'm looking to maintain a luxurious look for the car.
2) Poking around the above website, I see that I can get custom fitted covers for $400 each, or I can go with inserts for around $250 each. I'm not terribly interested in the generic covers, as I'm afraid they would look sloppy. Any preference?
Whatever I do, I'm gonna stay with black to match the rest of the interior, and get two so that both front seats are consistent - plus, I then have the option of switching them regularly, thus increasing the life of the covers.
EDIT: I asked if she has any problem riding in our daughter's MINI, which is also silver with a black interior - hers is not leather, but rather the durable leatherette (or whatever MINI / BMW) call it. She says no - it may be that the glass area of the windshield on the Mazda is so much bigger, and so much more raked, than that on the MINI. The MINI does not have any tinting on the side windows, while the Mazda does. Go figure.
I went through about 15 dealers on Ford's list out to about 75 miles. Yes, some of them had as many as six Mustangs (if you include the Shelby) but I don't remember seeing even one automatic.
I could see a dealer figuring that GT buyers might prefer standard shift but to have ZERO automatics in either 6 or 8 cyl. was strange. There has to be at least a few old farts with bad knees like mako1a or bad shifting abilities like me that would prefer a slushbox.
Maybe the automatics are so popular that they go out of inventory fast. Maybe Ford is willing to order your car any way you want so they have no need to keep a large inventory (fat chance).
Whatever, all I know is that it will be hard to go out today for any tire kicking.

I feel good that I walked too, because I didn't put up with their aragant (spellcheck said this was the correct spelling, it bothered me so I looked it up on the Canadian online dictionary and it is arrogant, so maybe both are acceptable in the USA) attitude. The whole experience was draining.
The salesman who sold us our 2008s is no longer there, so last time I was looking a few months ago they gave me to a new salesman.
He let us drive the car but he went with. He didn't explain all the features and he didn't follow up, so I didn't feel very much loyalty when I went to another dealer.
This time the Greenpea approached us when we were just looking. I said my salesman is supposed to be ------------. He said, he got into the fire department so he left us. The new guy was very awkward, but I think he was honest and he was really trying.
The manager was watching things like a hawk and didn't want us to get away without buying...it looked like a slow day. I like his openning line...I am Ricardo or something, You are two nice people and you have bought here before and I really want to help you buy your next car.
It went downhill after that. Although the new guy didn't know too many facts he was decent and honest, and if he got the paper OK's by the boss using his figures, we were about $1500 apart.
I might have lost because their price might have been a good one. I won't know until Dealer B reports on the magic number hopefully next week. Now one strange thing, they don't have pricing for the 2012 5 Series yet, but they had the options and packages all lined up at Dealer A. Dealer B said he didn't have that info yet. Not sure if B is being truthful or if BMW sends the information to their preferred dealers first, but something doesn't add up.
That was tiring....waiting in office, signing papers, checking on things on cars in the showroom...they wear you down and you just want to sign the paper just to get out and go home and watch some tennis.
There were lots of really bad things but the worst was the first time they gave me the contract and it was for full MSRP. If there was up to a $2000 increas on the 2012s, they would absorb that. I told him I don't gamble because I never win, so I am not going to gamble that there will be a $2000 increase. Little Jettas came down $5000 this year. Then they say well we take off $1500 from MSRP for a 2011. That's when I knew I had to fend for myself.

One good thing is, I have the paperwork from the first offer. When we went out to look at the managers demonstrator I slid it off the desk and it went into my pocket. It's got the code numbers, dealer prep, $50 for gas, air conditioner tax, transportation, etc., everything. That is going to be a very useful tool.
What do you think about this? I don't even have to drive 50 miles. I can email online sites, dealers up to 100 miles away, tell them what I am looking for, tell them what my trade in is, and tell them I will buy if they come up with the magic number. No extras, no haggle, lowest price sells a car.
Isell will be having a fit right about now.
The thing is, I owe dealer A nothing, trying to sell me a car at full MSRP. Do they think their customers are idiots? They made me fighting mad, and I am going to fight to see what I can do. On the other hand, I don't know yet how reasonable their deal was.
As I mentioned before, Spell Check doesn't always work

I have the same problem with my silver over black leather accord. Nasty when out in the sun. And the reason I have sworn off ever getting black leather (or cloth) again. That, and it is kind of dark in there!
Unless I find a deal of the century on a used car I just have to have!
I did look at seat covers at one point, but did not buy. I was looking IIRC at some synthetic ones (some are essentially wetsuit material). Real sheeps get pretty slippery.
also, they are likely 1 side only, due to cut outs for the side airbags if mounted on the seat.
another option (while not elegant) is a window shade combined with a big beach towel to put over the seat when you know it will be in the sun. Does the job, and cheap!

I checked the website that the Chicagoland autodealers assoc. has and within 45 miles of me they list 76 Mustangs (7 of which are Shelby). 24 are listed as automatics, 32 manuals, 2 were listed as 6 speeds with no mention of automatic or manual, and the rest did not have the transmission listed in the search results.
There has to be at least a few old farts with bad knees like mako1a or bad shifting abilities like me that would prefer a slushbox.

I prefer light color interiors. The black can look nice and it is practical, but I find it not as lively....I wouldn't say it's depressing, just not as upbeat as lighter colors. It is definitely hotter too.
The 5 Series doesn't have too many really nice colors. There are two beiges, a dark brown I have only seen once, a green I have never seen, two blues which I have only seen on a dealers lot, about 3 blacks (which I like but it has to have chrome accents or some bling to set it off....black car with black window edgings and no chrome just seems dull), and the silvers and grays. I decided on silver, people are so tired of it you don't see it much on new cars, also Space Gray is 2nd choice, it is a medium gray color....and what they call Oyster interior...or just off white.

I assure you that non-standard items did come from the factory.
Around 77-82 GM put the stupidest parts together. My dad had an Olds
Delta something with a chevette trans. He took it back and demanded a
replacement vehicle. He won. Partly because his good friend was a long time
mechanic who knew how to read manufacturer codes. That is just one
example. There were many. GM was doing some pretty underhanded things
back then. Partly because of Jimmy Carter's economy and sluggish car sales.
No one yelled "the Japanese are coming", but the handwriting was on the wall.
ps, that blue car next to the Vette was a 67-69 Mustang. Those years had
many variations from notchback to slantback to fastback to grande'. And
please don't confuse the 74 to 78 Mustangs (Mustang II) with anything else.
They made great parts cars and nothing else.

kyfdx.....good luck with the BMW. I had dinner with a group of good friends last night. One of them who owns a '99 Z3 was inspecting my 3. It was a nice night so she had the top down. Truly, her Z3 is in great shape for a 12 year old car. She said aside from oil changes, and someone prying the BMW emblem off the car while it was parked in another restaurant lot a couple of years ago (who does that?), the only thing she's done is tires, battery, brakes, tune-up.....that's it.
Stock levels for any types of BMW coupes is really low around here. Sweeney still has some 'verts, though. I I'm not sure what they have in Louisville or Lexington, though. As you know, I went as far as Dayton looking for my car, and ended up having to get it from the Center in NJ. So, I would probably pick a dealer and ask them to do a search for you from what's available.
driver.....no ifs, ands or buts about it. You were right to walk away from that dealer. I've had some dealer encounters where the SM acted as if they were doing me a favor by working with me. Yet, they won't budge on their end.
I would have told your dealer "I still have my money, you still have your car. No harm. No foul."
There's a lot of meat on the bone, even at $2K off MSRP. I don't have any issues with any dealer holding to MSRP. I even tell them that. I also tell them that I'm not their customer if they do.
Not sure if Jag (Trucar.com) or Edmunds has Canadian pricing, but I think I'd give them a shot. The exchange rate is pretty equal between the U.S. and Canada. You guys have some taxes that I'm probably not familiar with. But, I can't believe the price delta between the U.S. and Canada to be all that different on a BMW.
I think the first thing I'd do is to go find a dealership you trust, and one who seems willing to work with you, on price and on finding what you want. Then, turn them loose and let them find it for you. But, I'd agree on the price up front before letting them start on the quest.
Ended up there were two different dealers looking for me on my car. But, both of them had already seen my "deal sheet" and agreed to it (aside from minor options that might be included or omitted). The store I actually bought from went so far as to order the exact car I wanted from the factory. They found what I wanted before it was built. They did so with no firm deal with me, other than them knowing what I was looking for. But, the ordered car should be hitting their lot any day now.
Any dealer can be an order taker and order cars to sell at MSRP. On the other hand, there are dealers out there who will find what you want, and are more willing to work with you. Those are the ones you want to work with.
Good luck!

Your comments are appreciated GG. I agree, and one place they could do a little work is with my trade in. It is a car an enthusiast would be looking for.
One idea could be, if the salesman had any initiative or a bit of creativity, is to call the used car department and see if there are any potential customers looking for a 2008 standard convertible.
Unfortunately, order takers are easy to find. I think my chances might be better at a smaller dealer where they might try harder.
Your post reminded me of something else which has made me really mad now
The manager said I could have the 2011 demonstrator for $1500 less than the salesman thought I would get the 2012 for. The thing that could be funny, is when you buy the demonstrator, I don't think you are charged a lot of the extras, like destination charge - $2000. If that is true they actually expect me to pay more for the 2011 demo than a brand new 2012. I could be wrong about that, but I don't think so.
The amex thing sounds good but it won't let me put in a Canadian postal code. Sometimes I use my old employers zip code 10019....75 Rockefeller Plaza.
