    Since you say you have a good bit of expenses coming up, why not wait and see how that goes?

    Good advice, and if I may add, Tic's situation could improve and go the other way and he might be in a better situation and get a new car in a few months.

    In that case, he might be sorry he bought an older used car when he could have bought a new one. Agree, an older used car is risky and a lease is probably worse than buying anything...if you have uncertainty. Harder to get out of than owning.

    Wait it out....why put unnecessary pressure on yourself.

    imid, isell, farmer....I've been guilty of looking at mileage as a top line of comparison for used cars. Not probably the the way to judge a used car.

    But, I always figured, regardless of how well someone cared for a car, the parts, the body, the seats, the knobs, the frame, etc, etc.....all have xxx,xxxx of use on them. As such, they have a finite life, and the probability of those components useful life coming to an end, sooner rather than later.

    And, as Murphy's Law demands, it will happen at the least convenient time.

    As I said earlier, I am not a big fan of Walmart, but we did go there last Saturday looking for 4 hour Sudafeds that about 6 drug stores didn't seem to carry any more.

    I am a sucker for wick drying shirts for when I play tennis. These are supposed to keep you cool. They are usually about $25 to $30 and up. Walmart had some that were in a nice royal blue color.

    Well, I tried wearing it today, extremely humid day. I looked like I was wearing a wet suit. It just soaked up any sweat and doesn't breath at all. It cost $14 and was made in Bangladesh!
    I kept the receipt and the tags, and it says "Customer Satisfaction Guaranteed" on the tag.

    I wrote Walmart customer service this email:

    Dear customer Service Representative,

    This shirt gives the impression it would be a new type of wick dry shirt. The shirt does the exact opposite. All the sweat builds up and is not released. I was completely soaked. Somehow, eventually the water from sweat reaches the surface and the shirt dries pretty rapidly after that. But, it felt like I was playing in tennis with a wet suit on.

    How do I go about getting a refund...the tag says Satisfaction Guaranteed. By the way I almost never return any product I buy, but this one is so useless it is a matter of principle that I get my $14 back.

    Incidentally, the Saturday before at the same store we were questioned as my wife and I left the store and were asked by the greeter or some employee if he could examine the bag and check our receipt before we left the store. This was very insulting and probably illegal. Any comments?

    Thanks,

    I was going to throw it out and learn a good lesson about where not to shop any more, but I want to see what happens...it's the principle of the thing. I haven't forbidden any family members from shopping there if they choose to do so.

    Around here, a lot of dealers provide links to Black Book or KBB to value your trade. It kind of leads you to believe that is what your potential trade in is worth.

    "...Corvettes in general..."

    I have a Corvette in my barn that was driven an average of 4600 miles a year. My son seems to have lost interest in it so I'm trying to convince him to turn the title over to me. That way I can put it on the road and start pouring money into it. I've been looking for a money pit and I think this might just suit me. :shades:

    I don't know why because I'm too darn big to fit into it. :confuse:

    Cars like Corvettes tend to be out of my price range. I like the bargains and I find that the best bargains are the "nothing" cars. You know, the types that collectors or enthusiasts turn their nose up at.

    This would be an example of what peeks my interest:

    http://albany.craigslist.org/cto/2578996791.html

    Good value for the money and good basic transportation. Sure, it would be nice to find a sports car like a Corvette or BMW on the cheap but I don't have the mechanical smarts to tell the good from the bad.

    "...(1982) Dodge Rampage pickup...21,000 miles..."

    There's sometimes too much of a good thing. Too few miles can be as bad as too many.

    Last year I found a 1995 Buick Century with something like 18,000 miles on it. I balked because the asking price was $7,000, way more than it was worth. Even if the price had been half of that I would be leery that the valve seals were dried out or that it would sprout leaks like a fountain.

    It's these unknowns that make used car buying so interesting. :)

    You'll be glad to hear no. Because I didn't get a reply yet to my email, but we had to go in that direction so I took the shirt back. Walked up to customer service, brought in the shirt - unwashed, GAVE THEM THE RECEIPT, gave them the tags along with bar code. They scanned it and gave me back a full refund - no problem.

    Oldfarmer - what year is your son's corvette? Is it an '84?

    Mako1a - that's a sweet Corvette! Z51 + 6 Speed Auto is just what you are looking for. The C6 is quite a vehicle. A true world class sports car. Scary to think what GM could have done if the R&D'd every car like they did the C6. They set their sights on the 911 when they designed the car. I read they actually bought a 911, drove it, tracked it, tore it apart, & built it back up again and tested the C6 against it during all phases of production.

    Anyone else see this story on CNN? My first thought was that driver was involved, but the age of the perps and lack of any BMWs on the list made me breathe a sigh of relief. The story never tells who won, how kids younger than 21 have such easy access to exotic cars or whether some of the drivers had a better "feel for the road".

    "This could be the plot for a movie, 'Fast and Furious Canada,' or maybe 'Fast and Furious, the Young and the Rich.'

    Police in British Columbia say they impounded $2 million worth of high-end vehicles this week after witnesses reported the 13 cars racing on a metro Vancouver highway at speeds of 125 mph (200 kph).

    The high-end race cars included a Ferrari, Lamborghinis, Maseratis, an Audi, an Aston Martin, Nissans and a Mercedes, according to a Royal Canadian Mounted Police press release.

    Two of the racers would run side-by-side to block other traffic going in their direction on the highway while the others cars would take off in a race, witnesses told the RCMP.

    "These drivers seemed to be looking for attention. Well, they definitely got the attention of police," Cpl. Holly Marks, spokesperson for the Lower Mainland District Regional Police Service, said in the press release.

    What the racers, who police said are all under age 21, won't get is harsh punishment.

    The drivers included 12 men and one woman, according to Surrey Now. Gaumont told the paper they were on their way to have a meal when they decided to race.

    According to the Sun, the vehicles were:

    * 2007 Ferrari 599
    * 2010 Lamborghini Gallardo
    * 2010 Lamborghini Gallardo
    * 2009 Lamborghini Gallardo
    * 2009 Audi R8
    * 2012 Nissan GT-R
    * 2010 Nissan GT-R
    * 2010 Nissan GT-R
    * 2010 Maserati Turismo
    * 2010 Maserati Turismo
    * 2011 Mercedes SL63
    * 2011 Mercedes SLS
    * 2005 Aston Martin DB9"

    Driver, you are not living large and fast enough to keep up with your Canadian brethren!

    Yep, Vettes just keep getting better and better.

    It's almost like they're not part of GM. Their best car by far.

    If you want the fastest, most impressive car around, and still

    No, No. Let Andres return the shirt for you. It will save you time and trouble, plus give him the thrill of his life. Don't forget to give him the receipt or he might come home with $7.50 instead of $14.00. Lordy!

    How could you let a shirt from Wal-Mart touch your skin?! I hope you washed it before you wore it. I have a friend who owned textile plants for years---until NAFTA killed America. He always warned me to wash shirts, underwear, socks, etc. before wearing them for the first time---regardless of where you purchased them. He would say that I didn't want to know what had been on those garments before they left on the truck.

    Yes, Gogi, I saw that story and still don't know how that could happen. I hear most of the fines will be $195 and their cars will be impounded for 7 days.

    I have the same questions as you do, how could under 21 year olds get their hands on these cars, where are the parents, will these kids ever become responsible adults, do they have any idea how dangerous this was and do they have any consideration for other people's lives?

    They might lose their license for a year or two, but I have a feeling that won't do much good.

    They are in B.C which is more like California, I am closer to Toronto and we have our nutcases too, but it's a little more extreme on the left coast for some reason.

    I didn't realize that but I looked it up and you are correct pseudoephedrine hydrochloride was the active ingredient in Sudafed. If your ears get plugged up when you are on a plane they can really help.

    None of the drug stores had it on the shelf. The last store we checked said she would order it. When she did that she found they were discontinued.

    She suggested a store brand product which we bought and she got it from behind the counter. My wife asked why they wouldn't have had them out on the shelf, and now we know why...your answer explains it. Thank you, very helpful.

    I know we have some bike riders and but I have to tell you what happened to me yesterday.

    I have a new rule for myself,,,,,I am really trying to stop for amber lights whenever possible. I have noticed lots of people going through amber lights late, and sometimes I was doing it and it was getting worse at times...so I made a rule to be extra cautious.

    I was on a main street, light goes amber, I should probably have gone through, but I stopped and I ended up right on top of the crosswalk.

    Two people, probably a young married couple rode their bikes from the other side of the street.
    He got there first and he swerved around and went behind my car, like a normal human being would do. The woman (and I use that term loosely) drove right up to my door, stopped, and asked "Where am I supposed to go?" I thought "you stupid........." but I didn't say that, " I said all you have to do is go around the back of the car, I stopped because I didn't want to hit someone in the crosswalk".

    Nothing too much against bike riders, but give me a break. She probably hates cars and thinks I am infringing on her rights and I am ruining the environment by driving a car, meanwhile my taxes pay for the roads....and sidewalks, she rides her bike on.

    Was that still a pseudoephedrine? The stores like to push phenyephrine (HCl) products. But they do not work like pseudoephedrine.

    But here the pseudoephedrines are bought by drug cookers who use it to cook methamphetamines for the illegal drug market. So the gov' restricts their sale with a registration of each purchase and a limit on how much you can buy. They don't put the boxes out because the crooks would grab the boxes and run without going through the register.

    It was pseudoephedrine, I just checked the package. When the pharmacist couldn't order Sudafed she gave us the house brand (kind of like a House Brand Rite Aid watch) that she said is the same.

    We wouldn't have known if we hadn't asked where the 4 hour Sudafeds were, and when we couldn't order it she said these had the same ingredients.

    I didn't think the druggies would use something like a decongestant, but I learn lots of good stuff here every day. I probably saved at least $3000 on my car just from knowing the value of my trade in and thinking about what the profit margin would be. Good stuff.

    "...used by drug cookers..."

    So true. They also need ammonia which is used as corn fertilizer. Druggies would often steal it from bulk tanks on large farms. Frequently they would steal a gallon and leave the valve open dumping thousands of gallons of the stuff on the ground.

    This ended when they restricted the sale of cold pills and other ingredients. Now most meth is cooked by the drug cartels in Mexico and has spawned a rash of smuggling and murders on both sides of the border. :(

    Hi everyone. Thanks for all the help. I don't really want to get a lawyer involved. I just want the deal to be honored as it was originally written and understood. I even told them I had a pending payment, and was told I rec the difference back.

    @graphicguy- The paperwork was printed and complete when I took the car home, the trade in value and lease payoff were on the first bill of sale, of which I have a copy. When I went back the next day they had printed up a brand new bill of sale.

    Seriously, besides this issue the dealership was nice. THe salesman helpful. I really am not trying to squeeze them or take advantage of a mistake. But I didn't like the approach of trying to make me sign a new contract. Deals are deals for a reason. I just appreciate honesty. I mean if it's a mistake, maybe they could say "we made a mistake. Can we give you a $500 maintenance credit to make up for it?" or even add on the extended warranty. I probably would have said yes to a more honest approach.
  • mtaxman777mtaxman777 Member Posts: 6
    thanks for the advice. Yeah, I dont think I'm going to get a lawyer. I was just a little irate from the tactic they used to resolve the issue. Like I said in another reply, for an honest mistake they could have owned up to it and worked something out that would have been beneficial to both of us, i.e. Extended warranty for free or oil change credits, etc... Honesty is the best policy always!

    > Now most meth is cooked by the drug cartels

    Occasionally they bust a meth lab in this greater area. Once in a while they find a rolling lab operating in a car.

    rolling lab operating in a car.

    I have never smelled a meth lab. However, I was at a small town cruise in last weekend and a group of three or four men had a piercing smell somewhere between ammonia and paradichlorobenze (moth balls). I was tempted to ask the local policemen passing out car show flyers into the cars on display to check on that. But they were imports from various small town speed traps around the county and I figured they wouldn't know what I meant when I wondered if I was smelling meth lab on the people.

    Sure post it, I've never met a student who majored in Corvettes.

    You like the 83' better? From what I've read the 84' was an improvement in every way except for the crappy fuel injection system. I know the roof on my son's comes off without the "T" in the middle because of the stronger frame. But what do I know about which cars are collectable.

    Extended warranty for free or oil change credits, etc... Honesty is the best policy always!

    You are a nice fellow. I had two similar experiences and I thought the dealer should have given us a credit on the next car. Once a deal is done it is hard to change the paperwork on a car...there are tax issues, commissions etc.

    First, we trade in a Mercedes and we thought the extended warranty was up. Didn't notice until a few days later. Salesman said they couldn't credit it, though it was ceratinly worth $1000 for the next buyer and so they would get that.

    I thought after they should have said, we will make it up to you when you buy your next car. We might have bought one there with a credit, but it left a bad feeling.

    Second time, we both bought our 2008 BMWs the Canadian dollar was very high. I said will there be a rebate because of our high dollar. Salesman said BMW would never do that. I should have still written it in to the contract-people were talking about it being possible. A few weeks later they announced a $3000 rebate because of the exchange. For some reason we didn't get it on my wife's car because it came in 2 weeks sooner...I did get it on mine.

    For those that know, that was dealer A. And I told Rocko they owed me a favor because of that experience. It meant nothing to him, another reason I am glad I went to Dealer B.

    They could have said we are sorry, we will make it up to you next time.

    It was just a mistake and there is a chance they might be honest and will give you back the money they should not have. Good luck really, and let us know how it ends up. Thanks for getting back to us, some people get good advice and we never hear from them again.

    RB, a quick question. In the last few days my car jerks when starting up in first. The anchors on the mats have come loose and the mat does ride forward. When I put the mat back in place I don't think the car does the jerking thing.

    The warranty comes up in October and I am not sure if it is a problem with the mat getting caught on the gas pedal or clutch, or if that shuttering feeling is a problem with a clutch.

    I should be able to figure out which it is, but any guesses would help me to solve the problem.
    Thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Then remove the mat and see if that makes a difference.
    The carpet is not going to wear out in a couple of months.

    Clutch shudder is usually not a symptom of clutch wear. Unfortunately your car has what BMW calls a "lock valve" AKA the infamous Clutch Delay Valve(CDV) that can cause clutch issues. Ditto for the self-adjusting clutch(
    SAC) which I believe you car has as well. Two textbook examples of BMW "dumbing down" their cars; the CDV and SAC are designed to help a novice drive a manual gearbox smoothly, but the end result is compromised overall clutch performance. I'd let the dealer check it out, but if the clutch is worn or damaged you can be assured that they will blame you- not the ancillary garbage that actually caused the problem...
