I have seen them but they look just like what used to be called a Cobalt I believe, same design, different name. I have seen a few of them around.
I guess no one in the US will shop for an Orlando if they are not available there. Canadians buy smaller cars in larger numbers, so I guess GM decided it would be popular enough to sell in Canada. Still seems like a lot of models for one line of cars, whether it is 10 or 11. Something about the old saying of spreading yourself thin, or, trying to cover all the bases so you don't do any well, comes to mind.

Yeah, but all full-line manufacturers sell lots of models.
Let's break it down:
A-class - Spark
B-class - Sonic
C-class - Cruze
D-class - Malibu
Full size - Impala
Pony car - Camaro
Sports car - Corvette
Mid-size truck - Colorado
Full-size truck - Silverado
Small CUV - Orlando
Mid-size CUV - Equinox
Full-size CUV - Traverse
Mid-size SUV - Tahoe
Full-size SUV - Suburban
That's actually 14 models, but there isn't any overlap in the market segment they compete in.
I agree that smaller cars are more popular in Canada than in the US; probably has to do with the fact that gas is so much more expensive.
I have no plans to be buying any cars for quite some time now so it's not anything I'm really worried about.
Don't forget the Volt.
I think for most people it is too overwhelming and leads to weakness overall. One of GMs big mistakes before the crunch was trying to make sports cars like the VUE and Solstice, not mention the whole Saturn line which they just couldn't keep up to date. I am just questioning, whether it wouldn't be better to concentrate on 5 or 6 different models than trying to manage 14 or 15 car lines plus 6 or 7 truck lines. Remember, these days there is technology and research costs etc., and it might be better to make fewer models, but put more into the design and technology.
Personally, I have no desire to visit a Chevy salesroom, I don't think they are best in class in any of the groups they compete in. I liked the Cruz in it's class, until thiose negative reviews came out.

It does seem like a good vehicle for a compact van. There just isn't much demand for smaller vehicles like this in the USA. Gas here is almost $5 a gallon, so people tend to buy smaller cars in bigger numbers. If gas prices go up, GM will probably reevaluate the Orlando for the US.
Did you get your blood work done?

It finally arrived. F&I was totally painless. Delivery was good. They had a checklist of items to go over. Very professional.
Dear God: Why are there cars named after
the jaguar, the cougar, the mustang,
the colt, the stingray, and the rabbit, but not ONE
named for a Dog? How often do you
see a cougar riding around? We love a nice car
ride! Would it be so hard to rename
the 'Chrysler Eagle' the 'Chrysler Beagle'?

Looks very nice! What little extras did you buy? What kind of things were on the checklist.
If they went over the controls I found out you can only absorb so much in one sitting....if the car is fairly complicated. It is nice if the dealer offers to go over things after you have driven the car for a few days....that's when you find out there are a lot of things you didn't know about.

Amen to that! After our first session with the SRX, my head was swimming. It's even worse if you are technically challenged. It's been a year now and I'm still asking questions.

Agreed with both of you. It helped that I had a Grand Cherokee before, so a lot of the controls were the same. There are a few things that have been improved, but a lot is the same. And let's face it, the Jeep's Nav/Radio is no iDrive from BMW. :P
Thank you driver.
Items on checklist: Controls (light, wipers, radio, nav.) Location of tire jack. Overview of engine (checking oil, where to fill each fluid, location of battery.) Also spent time on how to remove/put the hard top.
I already have new LED headlights. I'll put them on next week. I also have snow tires, all weather mats, short antenna, first aid kit, fire extinguisher holder, tailgate rack, and hardtop insulating pads.
No lift kits or anything like that.
I LOVE the car. Looks great and is the only 4 door convertible you can buy. If I ever move over to the island instead of just off I need one of those puppies.
Dog vehicles - well, there's always the Greyhound bus......
Dogs always get the short end of the stick but at least they'll then bring said stick back to you..

It's kind of involved. People put them on for the winter only. During the summer they either have a soft top (which can be put up or down like a regular convertible canvas roof) or they just go w/o a top.
Snow Tires on a Rubicon? That's hardcore;)
Thanks.
The tires it comes with are great for mud/off road and are good in snow. But they are very bad in ice.
I drive to Lake Tahoe about 3 w/e's a month. Elevation changes from 70 to over 8,000 feet in less than 100 miles. So you get some pretty steep and twisty roads.
Caltrans is also pretty strict about snow chains. They have 3 categories:
R1: Chains are required - snow tread tires allowed.
R2: Chains are required on all vehicles except four wheel drive vehicles with snow tires on all four wheels.
R3: Chains are required - all vehicles - no exceptions.
We hit R2 pretty often. I rather have dedicated snow tires than have to deal with chains. I also carry chains just in case (plus it's the law.)
At least I evoke some kind of emotions. Good or bad, better than indifferent.

Actually, I'm a moderate---the best of both worlds.
Isn't there an oxymoron there some place? :P Actually, I agree, I would rate myself as a moderate conservative
as opposed to over the top conservative(I decided to take that out so I wouldn't evoke too much emotion).2017 MB E400 , 2015 MB GLK350, 2014 MB C250
What kind of a dog is a Willy? But, I did forget Subaru has a "Boxer" engine. :shades:

Just don't start pulling out wires. It is best to go back to the dealer with a list of questions after you have driven for awhile. That is when you find out what you can't do on your own. I think it would be good if you could make an appointment 1 to 3 months after you take delivery to go over everything again, that could be very meaningful.

Did you buy the headlights from a parts dealer or is this something your Jeep dealer sells? What are the advantages of LED headlights...is that the kind with those bright string of little lights?

Oh, forgot about those. I guess Mack trucks has that bulldog emblem too.

The advantage is that you can actually see. The Wrangler's lights are universally known for sucking (pardon my French.)
I bought my lights from an off road shop in Colorado.
These are the lights:
http://www.jwspeaker.com/products/headlights#product100159-details
(Model 8700) One guy who really knows his lights described them as the "Jessica Biel of lights" :P
The string of lights you refer to are more for daytime running lights. These are actual headlights.
Correct. The soft top is standard. The hardtop is an option. They also have a dual top option which includes both.
There are a lot of aftermarket soft tops, but only a few hardtops (and they are expensive.)
Thank you.
I think part of the problem is that the later Hummers were more bling than real offroaders. The earlier hummers were also bought more as accessories than off roaders (rappers for example.) They were the Escalade of their day.
In some of the Jeep forums I read, the hardcore Wrangler guys think that the current Wranger is only for soccer moms and mall crawlers. And don't even get them started on the Jeep Compass and Patriot.

No, no. The dog is the Whippet; the car was made by Willy. The Whippet dog is similar to a small Greyhound. They are part of the sighthound dog breed---very obedient, fast, and playful.

You're one of the few people that can do that to me. :shades:
BTW, I like your idea of the 30-90 day training session after delivery of a new car. That's when most people would have a long list of questions. Not to worry. My days of yanking on wires are over. It's cheaper to pay a service guy than to tear up the whole thing!

I don't think that I'll ever sell my 1999 Sahara.

I was going to go with those until I decided to take the plunge with LED's.
Richard,
I'm no expert, but halogen is not as efficient as LED. I think your SRX has HID lights (High Intensity Discharge) rather than halogen. They use Xenon gas (don't ask me the details.)
Some people think LED's are better/brighter. I like them both. The disadvantage is that HID's don't last nearly as long and they require a ballast and auto leveling mechanism.
This link has more information that I didn't know.

Not sure about that part... I've had them in multiple vehicles since 2003... never replaced a bulb... I can't say that about halogen sealed beams...

Seems there are 3 kinds of premium lights you can buy. Halogen, Xenon (I think) and now LED. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?
