My wife's is a 335ix, white, a little less mileage, right number of petals, and would be worth maybe $4000 more....with the AWD and 335 opposed to 328.

besides, you are dealing with Canadian money.

In order to meet stricter fuel economy standards mandated by the EPA here in the USA, many manufacturers have been looking at ways to meet those requirements. Mercedes has this feature on its V8 engines on the CLS and S class sedans. When the engine shuts down, air continues to circulate, but the compressor is shut down. Once the accellerator is depressed, the engine starts back up, as do all other components.
I drove one on a test drive and would not buy any car with this feature. Down here in Florida or in the Desert Southwest, it would be unbearable - I live in FL and have lived in Palm Springs, and I can tell you that during the summers it gets so hot that if the A/C is off for even 20 seconds, it gets very hot in the car very quickly!

The battery builds up power and the air conditioner continues to operate just like normal. It is designed to do that. I waited for a train to go by for close to 10 minutes and the air conditioner kept on working fine.
There is a blue light with a battery that shows how much power is still left charged up....all electricals keep working normally while the engine is off.
How is the Mustang running.

See 80173. I think this is a very new and different system....air conditioner still works. I think it is the same kind of charge the hybrids use. I don't know much about it but I got normal air conditioning when the engine was off.
2017 MB E400 , 2015 MB GLK350, 2014 MB C250
Hmmm...interesting! The Mercedes's engine shut down, but the ignition stayed on and the circulation fans continued to blow "high" but the compressor was off since the engine is needed to turn the compressor via the belt. Anything is possible I guess. Are you sure you weren't just feeling the air handling fans? Those remain on along with all other electrical systems - i.e. audio, gauges, and electric power for seats, etc. - but I did notice in the Benz that YHE air was losing its cooling ability after 20-30 seconds standing at the red light.
I guess the compressor could run via battery current, but wouldn't that defeat the purpose of shutting down the engine for better fuel economy? You have to charge back that battery somehow which uses more energy!
Who knows - I just didn't like it with the heat down here in Florida during the summers - 95 degrees with 85% humidity!

Even more important, it is lying by omission! Although it isn't an outright lie, it is still being dishonest to sell a car at MSRP when almost every dealer will discount.
Not quite as bad as outright lying, the owner can probably live with himself and justify it.
I think an ethical company tries to offer products at a fair price, not always the lowest price, but a fair price. Charging full MSRP when it is rarely done is not being fair and ethical, I choose not to do business with them and even more important, I just don't trust them.
I couldn't disagree more with you. Buying a car at lower than MSRP is not a right.
What is the one thing the pros have taught us here? "You don't know if it's possible until you ask," So why is it any different for the dealer?
They don't know if it's possible to sell at MSRP until they ask. If you don't like it, you can counter offer or go somewhere else. However, calling them unethical is not fair.
Man up and either negotiate or walk away (which you did,) but don't cry that they wouldn't give you invoice just by walking in the door.
The feature only comes on once the car has built up sufficient power to keep the battery and compressor working. If it is on for too long, and there isn't sufficient power, the engine will come on.
Here goes:
Driving comfort and driving safety are not affected by the Auto Start Stop function. The function is not activated, for example, until the engine has reached the ideal running temperature. The same applies if the air conditioner has not yet brought the cabin to the desired temperature, if the battery is not adequately charged or if the driver moves the steering wheel.
The Auto Start Stop function is coordinated by a central control unit that monitors data from all relevant sensors, the starter motor and the alternator. If necessary for comfort or safety, the control unit will automatically restart the engine: for example, if the vehicle begins to roll, the battery charge falls too low or condensation forms on the windscreen.
Furthermore, the system also recognises the difference between a temporary stop and a full stop.
2017 MB E400 , 2015 MB GLK350, 2014 MB C250
I do 100% agree with Mike on this. If the car shuts off the A/C for even a minute the cabin is going to get warm.
All I know is, I will A:) never buy a car with stop/start or B:) if I do, know there is a PERMANENT way to disable it.

Boy, you are going back to May 5. Actually, I believe after I did say they can choose to price their cars however they want.
I agree, they are not unethical, they are just low-life, slimeball, bottom feeding slimesucking pigs, but they certainly are not unethical.
I am just partly joking. The fact is they have a captive customer base who have the incomes to pay full price.....most of those people do not want to drive 30 minutes to save a few thousand dollars.
In this day and age few people pay full price for anything. As I definitely did say, my complaint wasn't so much the price they were charging, my complaint was with the way I was treated by the sales manager...trying to sell me a 2011 demonstrator and telling me in 4 years it would be worth only $1000 less than a 2012....THAT WAS UNETHICAL

The 2012 5er does have electrically charged battery, if it is a hot day and you are concerned just turn off the feature. 5er gets 30mpg highway, 26 city, probably more if I used the shut off feature more. It is the way of the future!

I thought it was primarily a drive train upgrade for the base car (2.5/CVT?) But if there are nice changes coming for the 6 cyl my wife might be more interested.

Oh, the humanity!! I've been listening to those guys for a long, long time.
I'm not knocking that “super secret internet email price” BUT when Mrs. jmonroe got her 2012 Legacy Limited at the end of November 2011, I got an E-Price from the dealer in Columbus that was more than a grand less than the $30,800 you mention. I will say this, the MSRP on her car was $32,812 not $34,115 and I thought it had almost all the options other than remote start which was $420 MSRP and the trunk cargo tray $86 MSRP. It even had the who-needs-them puddle lights option (can’t remember what the MSRP was in November 2011 but it was at least $250). So, I’m curious what that $34,800 MSRP included. Maybe Subie had a price increase, that’s not unheard of but possible.
In any case if we got what we got at the end of November 2011, I’d think you should be able to do better as the model year is closer to ending. I’ve said this before, the Subie 6 cyl. (3.6 liter) is a nice engine but not as nice as the 2012 Sonata 2.0 Turbo that I test drove when the XG350 blew up. The ‘judge’ just commented on the Optima with the same Turbo engine so you don’t have to take my word for it. However, we all know why I wasn’t going to buy the Sonata.

I hope they are out by early September. But, depending on what the wife thinks of the Subaru, might have to make a decision on that (if buying) sooner to take advantage of blow out pricing on the 2012s.

What happened to me started with a very bad dealer although Hyundai went along with it. The chance of you having a similar experience is pretty remote.
If you’re anything like me, once you drive the Turbo you will not be satisfied with the measly 4 banger. I’ve already admitted that I don’t buy a car with any consideration being given to gas mileage but if mileage is a concern for you don’t drive the Turbo because it will always be in your head what you could have had.

'15 Genesis V8 with Ultimate Package and '18 Legacy Limited 6 cyl
with that car, pretty sure I could not talk myself into the 4 cyl, coupled to a CVT.
I most likely would go turbo with the Santa Fe, largely because it would be competing against some V6 models. my wife might not notice, but since there is not a big MPG tradeoff (probably smaller in a CUV than a sedan also, being heavier), why not?
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
Because I am not a mileage geek, to tell you the truth, I can’t remember the last time I even looked at what the computer said it was but I seem to remember a few months ago it said something like 21 point ??? Mrs. j is the primary driver and it has only been used around town. She does not drive the interstate so that probably accounts for what I think is not so good mileage. However, maybe she is more of a lead foot than I thought. The car doesn’t even have 3600 miles on it yet (bought at the end of November 2011) so that might be part of it too.
BTW, is anyone else having problems with this site the last 2 days like me, both at work and at home? I don’t know how it could be the computer I’m using.

Yes, problems here as well. Sure is frustrating. It seems to work well for a while, but then they start fine tuning it and completely mess it up. I visit many forums every day, and have for years, but none seems to have the problems Edmunds does. They should fire those responsible (not the hosts, of course) and hire more competant people, Or maybe I should just ask for a refund on my dues....... :P
Yeeeeah, I know. Trying to find out what the trouble is this time. *sigh* It's always something.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I went back to the original post and I can see where I clearly missed that ‘stick’ was talking about an Outback and not a Legacy. No excuse for that other than he’s gotta start capitalizing proper nouns. How did he ever get out of 3 rd grade? Not a good excuse, I usually catch those things, but I’m sticking to it.

During this hectic process, I suddenly noticed something while in the garage yesterday morning. Part of the right passenger door and the rear panel is dented with four round dents on the convertible. No blue paint is knocked off with the exception of the blue guard that runs down the middle of the car. I believe that a grocery cart is the culprit rather than another vehicle. What burns me up is the fact that we both make a special effort to steer clear of grocery carts. We always park a good distance from the stores. Still, things happen no matter how hard you try to prevent them. There's no Chrysler dealer back at home and I don't have time now to see my dealer here. There is a good body shop back at home so I'll just wait until next week and try to see them. I was lamenting to my wife about the situation. Based on the fact that she is on over load with the move, she actually didn't show much interest. Naturally, I'm sick over it. My poor convertible has survived being stuck in the mud, dog poop, spilled iced tea (or was it lemonade?), and now the grocery cart. Didn't I leave out an incident? I'm too tired to remember.
Thanks for these few minutes from harsh reality. I've seen so many posts to which I would like to have responded. Hopefully, I'll be back in the swing in a week or two. All of you take care, especially Fezo and Mike. You're still on my prayer list.

You always wanted a Ford truck....it wasn't red was it?
Your car being hit by a grocery cart is very upsetting. I find I have more inceidences if I try too hard to prevent it from happening. I think your wife has the right attitude, leave it on the back burner for now, you have much greater priorities to deal with......all the little things that go with moving which includes change of address info, signing up for electricity, cable, etc. etc. etc.
Good luck with the move, looking forward to having you back.

With the regional differences in terms, here in Ohio I had pictures of a runaway Amish horse-drawn buggy had hit Richard's convertible. Although there aren't many in the immediate area, in parts away from here within an hour's drive there are areas of higher population. I pictures Richard and wife having parked next to the hitching posts side of a country store, shopping and looking for antiques. I thought a buggy impact surely would have been more dramatic so that he would have known it had happened.
But I already had known abuot the use of the term buggy for a grocery cart in Tennessee from our friends living there. So when I finally caught on to my mistake, I had to laugh at myself.

Once again we have something in common.
I told about the right front fender of Mrs. j’s Subie being walloped in a parking lot in February this year. It is very annoying to say the least. IIRC, the car just turned 1300 miles. Then a few weeks later the windshield had to be replaced. Your damage is to two panels, hers was only one. So that may cost more to have repaired.
A nephew-in-law who works for a body shop was able to get quite a bit of the dent out by just removing a few plastic pins, that hold the inner fender in place, and reaching in with the handle of a screwdriver to tap and push most of the dent out.
We still haven’t decided if we are going to do a full fledged repair but she’s leaning that way. If we do, his shop can probably do it for just a tad over $300.
Good luck with the move and hurry back. You otta see the grammar being used in this place lately.

Well Jmonroe, I think I have regaled you and others with my never-ending body saga--a once a year event for me. My cursed Mazda3. Fortunately, it has had no other issues:
2008--Wheel/tire damaged on interstate when attempting to get around vehicle not fully pulled out of passing lane with engine or tire trouble. $900 I pay.
2009--Older woman parked next to me backs up, but turns too tight and damages driver's side front and rear doors. $650 Her insurance pays
2010--$2500 hail damage. My insurance pays.
2011--$3500 damage when some dipstick backs into my car with huge truck. Attached trailer hitch crushes rear hatch and ruins back bumper cover. Hit and run. Curiously there are virtually no cars in the lot and the accident is caused because the jerk can be bothered to follow the proper flow of the lot. My insurance pays
2012--Pickup truck kicks up semi tire remnant on interstate, which damages front air dam, a couple of minor sensors and a bracket. Fortunately one of my students used to own his own body shop. We order the parts from Mazda and I'm only out of pocket $150.
What do I have to look forward to in 2013? Plus it's unlucky 13! The Mazda has never been off the road once for anything other than body issues. For only two of the incidents was I actually in the car. Sheesh. Now you all know why I spend so much time bicycling everywhere.
