Development of Easy-to-Understand Vehicle Malfunction Warning
Icons may mean confusion by the dashboard light
Fun stuff :P Keeps me employed
The problem with beta max was the length of hours it would play. It would only hold one movie. VHS came out with 4,6,8 and 8 hour tapes. Heard that on the history or discovery channel so it must be true
RE: Our discussion of the old Ford Contour we have already discussed how Americans need or are at least perceived to need "special amercanized" products.
For a XJR I either want a 1996 or 1997. If I want something newer then I am going for a Super V8.
Seems to me the pretty women would be doing better to sell the cars, if that were the case.
What about you mac? You ever try the old "oops I dropped my car keys and have to slowly bend over and pick them up" trick on your female customers?
I will let someone else take that 20,000-30,000 dollars of depreciation in the first 12 months.
Anyway, we enter the showroom (to basic silence, not a customer or employee to be seen) and I head over to an XKR Coupe. Salesman comes in side door from outside, asks if he can help. I forthrightly thank him and tell him that today I'm just a lookie-lou. He smiles and moves on, with an honest comment regarding the "back seat" in the XK. Ok, Evil Wife won't even attempt to get into the back seat after eyeballing it. I'm sure the kids would fit, though...
On to an XK 'vert. Out of one of the offices comes a handsome saleswoman who asks if she can be of assistance. Before I can id myslef as Mr. Lookie-Lou, the evil wife states, "My husband loves this car and wants to buy it. Write it up!" The saleswoman's face lights up and my mood sinks as I quickly apologize and inform her that at this point I'm in the pre-early-preliminary phases of maybe shopping for an XK. Saleswoman's smile turns upside-down. Offers me a brochure w/her card. (side note, don't like the brouchure, too avant garde. One of the loveliest designs on the road, just show the car! No fancy lenses, digital enhancements, thank you.) My EW meant no harm, was kidding. I later chastised her, explaining the error of her ways...
So, B_R, Jescue, LR44 if that was any of y'all again, my apologies!
As we left, a couple who looked like they just stepped out of the J. Crew catalog pulled up in a Yukon Denali. Biff had a a clipboard with a piece of paper covered in penciled in figures. Looked like Muffy was about to get a new RR!?
We skulked away... On to Home Depot where, as always, Lola will get what she wants and my garage will have to continue to be happy housing my (Zaino!) shiny Abyss Blue TL!
'21 Dark Blue/Black Audi A7 PHEV (mine); '22 White/Beige BMW X3 (hers); '20 Estoril Blue/Oyster BMW M240xi 'Vert (Ours, read: hers in 'vert weather; mine during Nor'easters...)
But you know what that is fine with me because...
I have six cars going this week, three used and three new, plus one more going on Monday for next week. That puts me one car away on both new and used for the first bonus level.

Oh wait I forgot one of my car collector clients is getting another Range Rover, his fifth from me in less then two years, this month too so that puts me at eight.
Agree on the back seat of the XK that is my only real complaint about the car. It has the smallest back seat of any GT car even then 911 back seats are more useful. I kind of want Jag to put a manual in it but a car in that segment/size doesn't really need one. Now if Jag ever makes a smaller coupe/roadster with the 3.2 liter Volvo Inline 6 they better offer a manual.
I was thinking the same thing...
Those that mentioned JVC and the longer time available on VHS get prizes. You are correct. JVC bought the complete licensing rights from Sony and then proceeded to license to all comers.
VHS got the longer tapes and such because people had an interest in furthering the technology. Another comparable thing happened when 8 tracks and cassettes became popular. Choosing an 8 track at that time was a reasonable decision. Of course the technology for 8 tracks didn't move while cassettes got better and better.
Of course now cassettes are obsolete so you can put them with your VHS tapes - right next to your 8 tracks.
Typical Sales Story... lol..

Maybe if explain it that will be easier.
The paddle at the bottom is the electronic park brake. You pull it to set it and push down with your foot on the foot brake to release it. Very easy to use and the message center in the instrument cluster will remind you if you forget to push the brake pedal down.
Starting from the top you have the Big knob there. That is terrain response which is a patented system from Land Rover. No one has anything like it on any other car in the world.
Remember Land Rover is a little company that sold a little over 200,000 vehicles to the whole world last year which was a record. They sell vehicles in 170 plus countries many of which do not even use western characters so you can't have English for everything.
Terrain response is like point and click four wheel drive. You look out the window see what terrain you are on and select the mode using the knob. The first setting is General mode for everyday driving. The second one going from left to right is Snow/Grass/Gravel. The Third is Mud and Ruts. The fourth is Sand Mode. The last setting is Rock Crawl.
You turn the knob and the various algorithms programed into the cars computers make you look like a pro.
The toggle on the left controls the air suspension. Press the down arrow to lower the car and the up arrow to raise it. Pretty darn easy.
The button in the middle with the car going down hill in Red is Hill Descent Control or HDC. Almost everyone has a version of that now but Land Rover invented it back in the mid 90s.
The last toggle on the right is the High and Low range Transfer case control. Just like low range in any other vehicle you must be in neutral going below a certain speed to engage low range. The message center in the instrument cluster will tell you to engage neutral or to slow down if you need to.
What could be simpler then that?
In a LR3 or a Range Rover I can take a complete novice to off-roading and make them look like a superstar in one day of instruction. Assuming of course they can listen to instructions and don't mind being yelled at if they make a mistake.
I'm suprised at that. I think it's a stunning car. Would be my first pick.
Working on #10 for July - already made more $ than I did on 14 last month
I guess the deal is never done, even on a Porsche until it's delivered. Would you guys call this grinding, or perhaps just a competitive market?
I promise to finish that story this week too.
I ended up with one for July and eight so far in August.
Poor analogy as what you described is someone renting and what we are discussing is someone buying. In the so called "straw purchase" the car is actually bought by person 'A' and that person owns the car. Person 'A' can assign ownership rights to the car to someone else as person 'A' is the owner.
In your example you are not the owner but a renter, as such you do have ownership rights assigned to you but you do not have ownership of the property. Rental leases do have stipulations to what you have mentioned.
Now with the car loan most do not have limitations on what you can or cannot do. Basically a car loan is you renting money, the loan basically stipulates that you will pay back a certain amount at certain times and that the car is their secured interest. Most, maybe all, stipulate that the property be insured to protect them from a loss. Beyond that a auto loan does not limit how the property being bought is used (like a rental agreement would).
In short your loan agreement is that you will take the money and apply it to the purchase of the car and use that car as security for the loan. It does not restrict your use of that car.

I doubt if most owners could explain away those icons a few months after they bought it, maybe they would guess 3 out of 5.
Didn't Chrysler just come out with a lifetime limited power train warranty?

The rest of the world has no problem with the symbols.
There is a Snowflake duh that is snow.
The next symbol has a big tree and a car driving through obvious ruts.
The next one is sand there is a freaking cactus on it.
The last one is a car driving on a boulder for crying out loud.
Oh and again whenever you turn the terrain response knob the message center in the instrument cluster says what mode you are in. It will say Snow/Grass/Gravel or Sand or whatever depending on the mode you select.
The 4x4 display on the nav screen will do the same thing.
Which was longer the 8 or the 8 hour tape?
Sorry couldn't resist

I do... in fact I can offer policies of 5 years 100000 additional miles for vehicles with up to 150000 miles. I will say that the number of peopl who call looking to get a warranty because that vehicle with 60000 miles on it has a problem and it is cheaper to buy a warranty then get it fixed amazes me... Just five minutes ago I had a guy with a $1300 tear down bill to get to a seal that cost $13 to replace... Then however much to put it back together... His warranty cost from me.. BB Wear and Tear and Seals and Gaskets included 5 years 100K $1756. Will every one need it ... no.... Do i get them Yes
Really, would you do so for a Hyundai thats approaching 150k miles? There is nothing wrong with it but if you can warranty it to nearly 250K miles it might be worth it as the older it gets the more likely it will need something.
But then again we are planning on replacing it in three years anyway.
