I bought one - depends on what region you're in - some regions stock them (not many though), and some don't. Bottom line is if you want one, you can get one.

    Mine was on the lot.

I think Mac's region gets them.

Is this a new profit generator for dealerships?

No it is not a new way for dealers to make profit. Just like Joel said we get a ten day pay off and the Bank sends you the differance ussualy take a couple weeks sometime 6-8 sometimes longer but that is who owes you the money not the dealer.

this method started to gain popularity
about 6 or 7 years ago and is now used quite regularly in many places, the success rate of people coming in by themselves to get a "prize" is fantastically high.

I wonder if Chris Hanson had anything to do about that?

Take a seat right over there! :P

That show blows my mind some people are very sick :confuse:

But with Toyota, "availability", as defined by their sales literature, is not the same as availability at the dealerships. Are dealers actually taking delivery of Camrys with the manual tranny?

Of course they still order Manny's. Where do you think they get there add cars from? ;) :P

We do get them at my store and they actually sell quickly since we blow out Camrys like they're going out of style. The ce is no longer called ce in my region. It's Camry, Camry Le, Camry SE, etc..

4 Cyl Accords are available with five speeds and the V-6 Coupes can be had with a 6 speed manual but these sure don't sell well.

We try to keep a couple around but they usually sit and sit.

I just had a customer that just had to have an EX-leather NAVI Accord
with a manual and it had to be a certain color too.

I pulled a locate and there just happened to be ***ONE*** EXL NAVI in the entire states of Washington and Oregon and by chance, it happened to be the color he wanted. I'll bet that other store was happy to see it gone.

Nothing wrong with manuals and I'm sure they sell better in areas that don't have a lot of hills and heavy traffic like we do.

the witch i mean mrs deskman wants me to curb the viper to free up some space in the garage and put some cash in Jr's education fund while i am on leave.

I think i should ask the car guys/gals which should stay and which should go.

viper or gt3 what would you keep?

viper 3500 miles in the wrapper 1 of 50 made black with black guts.

gt3 1200 miles mexico blue with black guts probably 1 of 1.

I think the quickest 0-60mph Toyota is now a Camry V6 with its 268-hp engine -- only if it is not equipped with traction control. One of the rags listed this version at sub-6 seconds. However, the Tundra is very close to that, and it probably handles almost as well! :P

i just assume this is what should happen with every bank.

How do you car biz guys explain this:

As best as I can remember, about 3 weeks after I bought in 2005, I receive a check from the dealer for something under $30. The tear off sheet says for overpayment of 2005 XG350 on such and such date, contract number such and such.

I called and asked for the business office and the woman that answered said that must be the over allowance on your trade. I told her it was a cash deal, no trade. She says are you sure, everybody trades in their old car. :confuse:

I said thanks and hung up. Since I had the F&I guys business card I call him. He says yeah, I remember you, cash deal so it can’t be for an over allowance. He then asks the amount and I tell him and he says, “oh, that amount is the difference between a new plate and a transfer of plates (transfer of course being cheaper) but you bought a new plate so I can’t understand why you’re getting that check”. He then asks, “can you tell me who signed the check”? I said, “you gotta be kidding me, that’s one of the most scribbled signatures I’ve ever seen”. If I wrote like that when I was learning cursive in the fourth grade, my teacher would have sent me to reform school.

He goes on to say this could be a mess to figure out. Do yourself, me and the dealership a favor and just cash the check. He emphasized PLEASE cash the check. Don’t throw it away, otherwise this will be another mess. Consider this as a gift from your friendly dealer.

So, I cashed the check. What else should I have done? I didn’t want to mess up their accounting dept. ‘snake’, you stay out of this. :P

a impact fee reduction that the sales software did not catch.

Just a guess but let me ask you this. Do you live in a different County then the one the dealership is located in?

The reason I ask is that my F&I software has some defaults on it. When ever we start a deal it automatically loads in the $96.50 for tags. Thats what it cost in the county we are located in. A neighboring county we do allot of business with is only $66.50.

To change the price of the tags is in a sub screen and I will sometimes forget to change the tag price from the $96.50 to $66.50 which results in coincidentally a $30 refund check being generated to the customer.

Either that or your magnetic personality, charm, and charisma, prompted them to send you $30 just for being such a nice guy. :D

this one on topic with auto sales stories at least somewhat:

Mid-seventies, an officer attempts to stop a traffic violator on a busy street, suspect doesn't stop but pulls into a Dodge Plymouth dealership during busy day time. As this occurs, a salesman parks and gets out of a new Dodge sedan along with two passengers, a man and woman, apparently they had just completed a test drive, the three are all standing by the car discussing purchase etc. All the doors are standing open, keys still in ignition.

The next thing our genius fleeing dude does is bail out of his car, jump into the new Dodge slam the doors and lock it, the officer pulls up directly behind the Dodge and blocks it in, Dodge was nosed into front of showroom so no place to go. Officer calls for back-up, myself and several others get there and we got a stalemate,

Still not too serious yet, but when we run his plate he's got an outstanding warrant for domestic violence and child abuse, known to carry weapons in the past, of course that is why he wouldn't stop originally.

I tell salesman give me the second set of keys inside and we'll open the door, he goes in and gets the big bosses and everyone's outside. Gets hotter now, dude is screaming I got a knife and I cut the first one through the door, (ended up he had no weapon but we didn't know that.)

I asked the GM, hey man can I break the rear window to end this? He says get this guy out of my lot now and I don't care what you do. We broke out the rear window with a nightstick and laid in two full cans of mace, and dragged him out.Several days later I go back to the GM to get some insurance type info and he says the lady and man test drive people were impressed with whole thing and bought a Dodge sedan just like the one that took the beating, I asked if I would be getting a referral or split commission with the salesman, he said good try but my guys put too much pressure on a potential customer and he doesn't want our sales assistance.

well, according to albeedigital and motortrend, the GT2 was almost a full second quicker than the ACR in the 1/4 mile. I only see 0-60 time for the GT3 and that's about 3-tenths quicker than the ACR.

In addition, isn't the GT3 supposed to be some kind of track god?

    oh, and its a Porsche.

What could you get for each one? Owe any money on either?

I'm not even sure why I'm asking those last 2 questions. I just see no choice here, personally.

    "any horsepower with a stick?"

I think the closest thing that Toyota sells to a performance vehicle with a stick would be the Tacoma X-Runner: 236/266 HP/torque, 6-spd manual, curb weight 3735 lbs. My complaint is that they have gotten too big and too ugly.

why bhph? when you can have a nano !

Well, you'd have to fly over to India to buy one.Or, you could have it shipped over. So, bhph may still have the edge over the Nano. :P

Nice article in the paper today about the Nano. It's being billed as, "The Worlds Cheapest Car", and is being sold for a whopping $2,500. Man... and you guys probably thought the Yugo was a POS when it came out and was being sold for $4,999.

Insiders think the Nano, "will set off a transportation revolution as big as Henry Ford's Model T." "They are creating something that has never existed before, the utility of a car with the affordability of a motorcycle."

The vehcile can seat five. The basic version has no radio, passenger side mirror or power steering... has only one windshield wiper. (I presume drivers side) The shape resembles "a mango".

The Nano has a two-cylinder 0.6 liter gasoline engine with 33 horsepower, giving it a top speed of about 60mph, getting 50 mpg.

Though I think I could dust the Nano in my John Deere riding mower on straightaways, the Nano may be able to make up for it on the quarter mile turns. :lemon:

I think the Nano would make a nice addition to your garage fleet deskman. :shades:

What protocol did they put you on? I've been on FOLFOX and now on FOLFIRI..got meds for the nausea so it doesn't bother me as much. No probs with diarrhea or constipation. Mainly hair falling off, tingling and numbness of hands and feet. Makes it hard for me to type or even write my name. Not as bad this time as last year when I couldn't even hold on to my car keys to open the car. The numbness in my feet is worse this time, makes it hard to walk and chew gum at the same time. I've been walking around barefoot at home to keep my feet cool. There lots of dead nerve endings in them and my hands. Sometimes they get better after chemo sometimes they don't. It's up to the individual. I did break out in a rash that looked like ringworm. The funny thing is it was on the inside of my upper arms, both arms. Looked really crazy like, they gave me so cortisone cream and that seems to have helped although you can still see the circles in my arms. Doc told me to stop the cream and see if they come back. It happened the last time too but only a small rash.
Hang in there bro, try to keep busy, read books, listen to your favorite music, watch movies, anything to take your mind of the disease otherwise it will drive you crazy. If you have any questions e=mail me and I'll pass on my phone number. Im_brentwood has cancer also and is in remission and a great guy to talk to. I also have his number if you need it. I'll be praying for you.

Actually the Yugo started out as $3999 as I recall and met (presumably barely) all US safety and emissions standards in effect at the time (no airbags then required).

This Nano will not meet Western safety or emissions standards, but will beat a scooter on both and a rickshaw on safety at least.

So, if the porter has to pay a tow fee for the Dealership's hook to drag the blocker out of the way, maybe next time he will empty his pockets before going to lunch. IIRC the salesman or sales manager pulled the car in behind so the customer could not leave. If they are responsible, then they need to get the dang thing moved or pay for the landscaping. Responsibility is what matters in this case...the dealership is responsible to get that out of the way, whatever it takes... What they do internally to lay blame or rectify the situation does not matter, at least to me...it is their problem not mine if I am blocked in and need/want to leave.

Four weeks treatment is good, you will be back to your old self in no time. I just finished my 7th cycle today and it wore me out. I had lunch twice since I felt tired and hungry one and a half hours after I ate some delicious Green Chile with shrimp Enchiladas my wonderful wife made me. !! Then I left for the hospital to pick up some documents and traffic was a bear. It took me an hour and a half before I made it to the dealership around 4:30 pm. Had an appointment with a customer to look at a pre-owned certified Tacoma, clean as a whistle and only 7330 miles on her. It has been on our lot for over 80 days so we marked it down to the bare bones to $24,990.00 customer offered me 20k. LOL This even after I had told him about the price reduction. The only objection left was the interest rates. His credit union quoted him a rate so I got one of our business managers to look at his credit (excellent) and see if we could match or beat it.
I put him out riding and he's going back to his credit union to verify the rates.
After I finished with him I took a couple of rides for a test drive. One was an Acura TL. Steering felt too heavy. Nice pick-up, nav system not very user friendly. Maybe I'm used to the Toyota systems.
Next was a 2006 Miata MX5. I'm in love!:blush: Six speed, handles like a dream! Took some corners at high speed and the pup took it like a champ! Reminded me a bit of my old MR2. Then I came home, ate more enchiladas and also a piece of pumpkin cheesecake Mrs. Mack cooked. God I love that woman!
Oh deskman, one thing I forgot to mention was the loss of taste buds. I can still taste the cheesecake and the enchiladas. Some foods taste like cardboard, so I'm enjoying what I can before I lose all my taste sense.
