The frosting has the coconut and pineapple in it. It is out of this world! I'm going to have to talk her into putting some rum or brandy in it next time. If I can get her to make a few I will freeze one and send it to you. Just make sure you let it thaw and not put it in the microwave since that will ruin the flavor.

I've been duking it out with a couple of posters at the Sequoia 2008 forum. They seem to think I'm feeding them BS about the SUV. A couple got snooty with me but I put them in their place. ;) "Can't we all just get along?"

I have the same problem with you know who with the same food. She has no problem making it for cook-outs when others ask her but for me, well... "It's a lot of work. It's not like you don't get it a few times a year" (don't nobody touch that one).

I see you're from PA, me too. So maybe it's a PA thing, even though she's originally from Boston. :confuse:

I just saw the new car lineup for folks with kids from Parents Magazine on the Today Show.
Their recommendations included Toyota Rav4, Chevy Malibu, Hyundai Veracruz, Kia Rondo and Dodge Minivan. Now with all that publicity does that mean you guys inflate price by a couple hundred bucks or just sell more?

I saw the end to this story coming and I'm sure you learned some lessons here.

I would NEVER do a dealer trade unless I have a deposit and a totally committed customer. If the customer is the slightest bit wishy washy I won't do it.

And NEVER let a customer know where the dealer trade is coming from. They WILL drive there or at least they will call that store in an attempt to get a lower price.

" I am a man of my word". Sadly, for a lot of people, those words mean nothing nor does the value of a handshake.

Has the car business made me cynical? I have to say it has and after spending my entire life in the business world, I thought I had a pretty good handle on people.

You know what the worst part is Isell? I knew going in that everything you have outlined here is true. The manager and I made a decision that in this case we would ignoe established practices. We honestly thought that we could " get by" just this once. And not trying to justify anything but just to illustrate our thought process, we did need an Altima with that MSRP on our lot.
And just to tell on myself about what a poor sport I am, I called Slovosic and really chewed him out about ethics and integrity and what they mean in OUR country. I didnt curse him but my speech rivaled his in content.

I have to agree with you and I say it all the time to peopel I know and work with....

When I first got in the car business I was very nice and patient human being and thought I knew everything about anything

Now 5 years later... I don't think I know anything... Sometimes I don't even know what day it is... I also don't have much patients ( go ahead ... I probably spelled that one wrong ) either these days...

This weekend I get a offer on a Murano lease for $450 a month with xxx amount of dollars out of pocket.

This offer came after a awesome presantation and demo drive. Everyone is loving the car etc.

Before the offer I was at $530 a month... So I get the offer at $450 and go to the desk... Boss says bump $8 we have a deal. So I go back at $458... I moved $70 in the customers direction.

I don't if you guys are following this but the mistake I made was not getting a deposit when they offered $450. I thought I had the best raport.

SO when I tell the guy he says well I have to go look at the Ford edge. With zero down it is $360 a month.

Now I am on a fully loaded Murano with everything except Nav.

The customer is trading a vehicle that he is upside down on by $3000.

After he tells me that I go back to the desk and we Give him numbers at loosing $200 behind Net, Net... Payment now is $430 a month... The guy says we have to go look at the ford we will make a decision today. I said good because this number is only good for today. THat day was Saturday.

I call the guy back at closing time on Saturday and ask him if he is on his way back and he says no. I would like to see if we could get the payment lower. He decides to lower his milage to 12,000 miles a year and give a additional $500 down and we over allow his trade. I tell him if you come in tonight we will do $399. One dollar lower than what you want to pay.

Now this is second time I met his payment. He responds thats great G I will be in tommorow when you open on Sunday. Sunday came and the guy call me againaround closing time wants the car blah, blah, blah but has to talk his wife ino the payment.

I asked what do you mean talk your wife into a payment first you said $450 now we are $399. I said if this to much for your budget or you really don't like the murano I can understand. Sure enough that wasn't the case he said.

He calls back on Monday. FOrd said they would give me more for my trade. I said ok go buy it.

Call me yesterday asking if we could do a little bit better. No once again.

Now I told this guy on Saturday night that the deal was only good for Sunday.

Who knows maybe we'll see him today. My boss thimks he can't afford the lease payment and may be right. He was moving up in payment about $130 a month.. :confuse:

"..."I am a man of my word"....those words mean nothing..."

I have to disagree with you. Often those words mean a whole lot. I've found that when someone feels compelled to tell what they "are" or "are not" you can be sure that the truth is the exact opposite. Kind of like when Nixon said "I am not a crook". I think in poker they cause that a "tell".

In this case, when this character said he was a man of his word, I would have asked for a BIG NON-REFUNDABLE deposit.

    LOL!

There's a butt for every seat. Maybe he had the same realization. I don't know. It's a pretty automobile with little to no Ford content visible.

I didn't get the full story about it. We see a lot of vehicles getting traded in with very low mileage like that. Normally it's just another to these guys.

If it helps you any GP I guarentee that he is not getting an Edge for $360 a month $0 down with $3K neg. At least not on a Ford lease he isn't. His $3K is $108 a month on a 36 and $150 a month on a 24.

Now if they are leasing him through a bank I can't help you.

That sounds like how my whole month has played out!!!

Heres a tip but this depends on the policy of the dealership:

I put the customer in a like vehicle while we are doing the dealer trade. Makes it less likely (not foolproof) for them to shop. And get a deposit. At least $100.00 on a credit card in act of good faith. If it is some kind of freak car like a stick shift green passat wagon I get at least $500.. And I agree with the masses, unless he was getting you to a bonus, he is welcome to give his business to someone else. Those type of people wear you out. This has been the month of wack jobs, flakes, and sell outs (meaning customers who sell you out for 100 bucks) so I sooooo sympathise with you

The only thing I can think of is they are on a base Edge compared to my touring Murano... With all respect i do believe the Murano leases out better... Residual value 47% for 39 months but the money factor comes out around .5%

But that is what I told the guy also about his negative equity. The only other thing I can think of is that they are trying to grind me doen to everything I can. Only time will tell.

I used to have too much ego to appreciate a TO. I had the whole " I can do it all myself" mentality. Guess what? If my manager will come in on a TO and if he closes just one extra deal a month for me, thats extra coin that goes into my pocket. Those few dollars that I get at the end of the month dont care who earned em!
