I'm sorry. My mistake. I didn't mean mortgage payments. I meant the proceeds from the sale of a house---or so the bank teller was telling me.

Yep. Proceeds from sale of a house, could lead to capital gains tax if you don't replace the house or qualify for the one time exclusion. So, the IRS would want to make sure all of your large transaction match what you file on your return to make sure you don't have any omissions. :-)

Today I had a dealer swap nightmare...

FOr the record when dealers do swaps they look at inventory on the computers. They than call another dealer and ask to swap cars or just out right buy the car they need from that dealer.

SO today I go on a swap to a dealer that is always a pain because they never have papaerwok ready and you ussualy just sit there.

Yes I/we a sales people are doing our own swaps right now because of budget cuts. We only have one swap guy and he has been in Europe visiting family.

Anyway the manager gives me the go ahead to go get this Murano. It is the Murano SL black on Biege. The color was the most important thing to the customer besides money. So the only way we could get the car was by getting it with Nav... That is locally speaking. SO the cust agrees for the bump in payment after and I tell her we will have the car today. SO I drive over to the other dealer with another salesman from my store who had to get a vehicle also. ( we were picking up 2 vehicles dropping off one) We get there and as I said we had to wait. And wait and wait. Finaly some one tells us they are missing the CO and they are looking for it. They say give us 15 minutes and we should be able to find it. So I start watching TV and a half hour later I go and check on the CO.

The manager says yeah we are still looking but the office girl went on lunch. Meanwhile they have known about the title missing for two weeks

In order to get a duplicate CO it takes about 3 - 4 weeks to produce one. I am frustrated to hell at this point becuase I had to basically force these customers into this vehicle. Now I have to call them and tell them something is screwed up and they can't come in today to do papaerwork like they suspected

We do have a chance at one 100 miles away so I'll have to put on my nice happy voice and try to keep this together

These are the true stories from the front lines

All you old people talking about old broken down jalopies got me all depressed about my future. So, I decided to enter the wide wonderful world of sales to cheer myself up. :shades:

Any of you so called pros ever sell 9 units in one day? My first day at work I sold 9 units! With a method so simple, revolutionary, and frankly pure genius... I'm surprised I hadn't thought it up before.

My daughter is on a traveling volleyball team. To raise funds to cover expenses, they (meaning mostly the parents) sell a restaurant coupon book for $10. i.e buy 1 get 1 free...$5 off $20 food purchase etc.

So, I go into work with a full allotment of 9 coupon books. As my wife sold the first one to a family friend... herself. O.k... so here's the part where you guys might want to start taking some notes. I go up to an ice cream licker (was actually eating ice cream), real nonchalant ya know, then suddenly I jump in front of them... pointing my finger at their nose and saying, "YOU LIKE TO SAVE MONEY DON"T YOU?" Well, you would be surprised at the look on their face. What they gonna do... say they don't like saving money? Well, of course they answer yes. So, I pull out my coupon book and explain that for only ten bucks they can save over $200 in food purchases. That was pretty much game set and match right there. Ended up closing 9 out of 18 (50% for non abacus users)... that's isell and greenpea territory man.

Now a few offer up some resistance, a jmonroe type of excuse that they don't have $10 on them. So, I counter with, "I take checks" or "I'll see you next weekend... I'll call you and remind you to bring your money." Then I also get a few of the "beeback"s... they say they don't have the money but will "beeback" next week to buy one. I also got one or two that said they would think about it. I reply with... "What's there to think about, I'm not selling a life insurance policy here! Just a lousy coupon book you'll probably never use". OOPS! .... guess that's why I never went into "the biz".

Wow I just realized that I have been posting here one year. Since April 21st with over 1200 posts. That is a average of 3 posts/day... :)

This place is a lot like the front lines. There are some veterans here, some newbies, and some have disapared never to be heard from again. Just like the dealerships ;)

My Windstall had a variation on manual windows - it had power ones that didn't work.... Actually that only happened once and it's the only time I've ever had a power window issue until right now where I'm replacing a switch on the Celica.

stickguy - don't feel too wrong on buying the car and THEN having it checked. I just did the same thing. I guess if the mechanic said it needed a ton of work it might have gone back on Ebay where it came from but the only things that seem to be up are the things I told him to fix anyway while checking over the car - the above mentioned switch and the arms that are supposed to open the trunk. They've got enough left in them that they'll hold the trunk lid once you push it up but won't pop the lid open when you want it to. Makes opening the trunk a two hand operation.

I never had problems selling those things at work because I never tried. I didn’t bother my fellow workers and they didn’t bother me. There were a few like me that had the attitude that when we signed our kids up for all of those sporting activities it was going to cost us money. Other than when the kids went to their grandparents and an uncle/aunt or two, I ate the cost of all those coupon book thingies. They couldn’t peddle those thingies in the neighborhood because all the kids were selling the same thing.

If I could have found a way to not buy all those books/raffles/candy bars, etc. and I had invested that money, I’d be at least halfway to buying another throw-away. If I only had more kids I would have made it. :(

I bet you were wondering how I was going to keep this on topic, huh? :shades:

I have seen these coupon books in the past and they always crack me up because you have 20 coupons for one place that you have to use in a month. Along with the other 30 stores. I would say some of them are good and some of them I would never use.

Now I see that Jipster was very successful in selling them. Not really sure if it was a guilt or fear factor. ;) Or it could be he really has sales skills.

At least once a year we have these hot girls walk in the dealership trying to sell them. And yes sex sells :surprise:

My manager ended buying one and it just sat on the desk. Luckily that day I didn't have any cash on me or I would have bought one.

Other things I have seen sold in the showroom are:

    1) suits... There used to be a old Italian guy who would go around the dealerships take your measurements and make you a suit. He would finance people also. You would give him a $100 to start and than every week on payday he would come around to all the dealerships to collect. He was a nice guy but he passed away a year ago. He would even coem in on snow days to sell gloves and hats.

    2) Bootleg DVD's... We had a little Vietnameese couple that would come by every other week selling Boot leg DVD's that ussualy had someones had in the picture because it was filmed at a movie thearter or it would be in chinese with english sub text. Also they would sell CD's that just or were just about to come out. And they would also sell porn... The funny thing was the porn always had perfect pictures. At least that was I was told ;)

    3) We have had fake watch guys... They would sell rollex's where the second hand was a swift moving part like the real ones. Fake Movado's...; Any kind high end jewlery... And we would buy them... Crazy... A month later your hand would turn green from wearing them :P

4)We have had shoe shine guys that would come to the dealer

    5) Guy's trying to sell insurance life/disability etc...

    6) one of my favorites... Sports pictures of world series and superbowls and star athleetes

7 And once we had a guy trying to sell us Omaha Steaks and burgers out of his ice box truck. I was only interested in buying the dryice. I gave the guy $5 for a little bit of dry ice so I could make it explode by mixing it with water in a 20 oz. bottle and throwing it. BOOM

And that is all I can think of right now.

Damn, those guys are all the way up there to?

My personal favorite are the guys who show up in a van, park it around the corner then come in and tell you that "The boss said these TV's and Stereos have to go today, and they are so cheap because they have no owners manuals or warranty paper work"

I still have a $1500 TV I bought from them for $350 about 5 years ago.

Dealerships are also a target for every kid in the country trying to sell candy bars and raffle tickets to buy there team new uniforms. If I donated to every kid that came in selling crap I would spend $200 a month just on that, and thats not including supporting my co-workers kids. they bought my crap so now I buy theres and one day my Grandson who lives with us will pedaling that crap to.

I usually don't bring my kids fund raising projects to work, as it is against company policy. But, I've often bought candy bars, girl scout cookies and mulch from co-workers (the ones who ignore the policy) , so I thought if may be fun to try to sell a few coupon books for my daughter... even sold one to my supervisor.

I know most of my co-workers fairly well though, so I could mess around with them... give them the surefire sale approach so often used by the pros here. The ones I didn't know as well I'd just say, "If you're interested... take a look... no pressure."

I'm still chuckling though at the signt/response of several of my co-workers when I asked if they liked to save money. They became confused... started stammering for words... like their wallets were about to be probed for a possible withdrawal. :P

Heck, I'm just signing mine over to the state of VA. Like I do every year. For some reason I always end up oweing them money. Otherwise I would just put it in my savings although I've been wanting a flat screen TV and a new Stratocaster guitar! I told myself that once I learned how to play I would get me a nice guitar. I've started my lessons and am practicing the chromatic scales. I learned all the parts of a guitar, know how to tune by ear and with a tuner, and starting to learn a few chords. It's not easy but it is fun. :shades:

Boy, you pay him THAT much? Can I apply for that job, I've never been to Europe? ;)

It seems counter productive to use sales staff to do grunt work like driving swaps. The only way that would make sense is if it is so dead that it's either grunt work or out of work. Salespeople should sell, that's what they do best.

BTW, that Murano is a very nice looking SUV. I'm not an SUV guy but if I was that would be on my list.

Well? Is it worth the bandwidth to retell that story?

The hardest thing I ever had to sell though was popcorn for my sons cub scout fund raiser. It was $8 for a box of 5 mini packages of popcorn. The medium size tin cans of popcorn were like $17. So, horribly overpriced it was embarrassing to try to even sell them. Sold 3 orders to relatives... who I no longer get Xmas cards from by the way. Now, those "Worlds Finest" chocolate bars... people love those things. You could sell those things door to door dressed up in an ape costume. The price has stayed the same, but over the years the things have shrunk down to about 1/4 there original size.

Copy cat. I'm thinking of telling 'you know who' that ours should go for my local taxes that weren't taken out of my pay for 6 months but I'm afraid to bring that subject up again. Believe it or not she hasn't even mentioned it since I wrote the check 2 weeks ago.

I believe in leaving sleeping dogs lie but that won't last forever. Just yesterday at a great nephews first birthday she brought up something I said at a birthday party 38 years ago. I swear she has this stuff chronicled by events and I can't remember what I had for breakfast, TODAY

Traindriver -- the 1% under invoice is for affiliates of DCX.

I am looking for the actual real DCX employee discount.

It's between 3-6% under invoice from what I can gather... (but I do know for a fact it's more than 1%.)

I guess I could have my father call his HR rep and go through the red tape of getting the answer that way, but I'd rather find this info on my own... my dad's got enough to deal with being he's almost been laid off about 10 times in the last 2 years!
  • kiawahkiawah Member Posts: 3,666
The fastest easiest way to find this out, is to have him take his ID card with him to a dealership, pick any car so they have a VIN number, and the dealer will pull the detail printout of the vehicle which will show the discounted price for DCX employees. You could have a definitive answer in 15 minutes.

You'll burn much more time than that in HR and/or on this or other boards, getting opinions and interpretations of what it should be or they think it is. Go right to the computers, and get the definitive answer.

I have to agree with kiawah 100%. You may have to get the actual number from DCX who ever that is... I don't know...

If someone came in with a VPP program from Nissan we can give them a sample on what ever program they have. But they have to get the actual a,b,c,d, plan number from Nissan. Nissan use to let us give the numbers as long as they had proof of who they were but stopped doing that about 6 months ago making anyone have to get the numbers from Nissan.

Edmunds lists the current incentives for a Mercedes CLS as $2,000 in marketing support. Also under leasing incentives it indicates $2,000 lease cash and $2,438 that the dealer may contribute towards the lease payments. Does this mean that when negotiating a lease, there is $2,000 in marketing support being provided to the dealer, PLUS $2,000 in lease cash (or is the $2,000 in lease cash equal to the marketing support)? Also, is the $2,438 in optional dealer contribution money that the dealer receives back from the Mercedes or is that just a suggested amount that the dealer should discount the car? Basically, I'm trying to figure out whether I should be subtracting $2,000, $4,000 or $6,438 from invoice when trying to determine the true dealer cost in the vehicle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So this past week, I finally settled on my truck to buy. I had been working with my local dealer during the process. We finally decide on an extended cab Silverado. I get quotes from several dealers around the area to make sure the dealership I've been working with is fair on their price. After the quotes, I find that his prices are about 2 to 3% higher then anybody else around. I ask him to at least bring it down to be inline with the average of the other dealers. (About 7% off MSRP before rebates). he balks, Manager balks, as I'm leaving he says all the other dealers (I showed him the list of 14 other dealers) are lowballing us.

In the end, I ended up driving 6 hours, but saved over $2,000 on the deal. Meanwhile, the local dealership, has sold 3 cars in the last 3 weeks. Hmmm wonder why that is?

    So that's my recent story.

On a sad note, on the drive up there, the car I was trading in, took a rock to the winshield putting a quarter size chip in it. Oops!

Been lurking here for a while. Just thought it was funny that the guy claimed I was being lowballed by 14 other dealers. 2 of the dealers gave me offers for trucks off the local lot, offered to drive 4 to 6 hours and deliver it to my doorstep. And they still beat their price. *sigh* I highly doubt that a sales guy is going to lowball me when he's driving 4 or 6 hours cuz if he did, I'd send him on his merry way. :) Heh

Anyways, Rapid Chevrolet in Rapid City South Dakota! Good place to buy. Even the F&I guy was friendly!

LOL! I trust you are joking on that one? Not even a family of jipsters should get that upset over a rip-off popcorn fundraiser. But I know exactly what you mean. Our son goes to a charter school, and it seems they hold some sort of fundraiser every quarter. Sometimes we just buy it ourselves, without going thru the embarrassment of asking anyone else to purchase..

In any case, your relatives shouldn't be upset about small fundrasier rip-offs, as long as they are for a good cause. The characteristic I hate about a small subset of relatives, and I'm guessing we all have at least one relative like this, is when I never hear from him/her/them for over 10 years, and then out of nowhere I get a wedding invitation or a graduation announcement (i.e., gift request) for a cousin's son or daughter whom I never knew!

Since I've posted a couple of other types of stories here, and most didn't seem to mind, I'm at it again. I've posted this a couple of other places, so forgive me if it is redundant for anyone...

Greetings! Just back from a road trip/family vacation to Washingmachine, DC. TL was flawless, packed to the gills with the four of us and detritus, encountering several traffic jams and some local driving, drove 1124 miles and averaged 49mph and 27 mpg.

I'm sure y'all have been, but if not, I most highly recommend a trip to our Nation's Capitol. If nothing else, it reminded/reinforced that the idea, conception, governmental model and ideals of this country are just so right. I'll leave the execution of our ideals throughout history to your discussion. Where is George Washington when we need him? A nation turns its lonely eyes to you...

Toured the Capitol Building, sat in the House Gallery and was entertained by a Representative from the Great State of South Carolina. Thank you, Rep. Barrett for a fun, enlightening time. Watched a resolution presented and objected to regarding The Delta Queen. Kids were getting fidgety, so had to leave before all the yeas and nays were tallied, it was a close race. Fabulous tour guide, Albert Caswell the "unofficial Poet Laureate" of the Capitol.

Also, rode to the top of the Washington Monument, toured the Bureau of Engraving and Printing ("The buck starts here!") several Smithsonian Museums, showed the kids the White House.

I had two very emotional moments, chilling, prideful, patriotic, depressing, scary...:

First was at the National Air and Space Museum at Dulles Airport. Go, do not miss this museum! One section of the museum was dominated by a large, familiar looking, shiny metal aircraft. As I drew closer, I noted the name: THE Enola Gay. Stopped me in my tracks, as a cold shudder engulfed my body. A show-stopper for me...

The Second was the Vietnam Memorial. Crowded, beautiful, chilling, depressing, stunning, reverant. I would imagine any Baby-Boomer would have such feelings. I looked through the index for the name of my summer camp counselor who, if memory servers, received a draft number in the 30s that summer oh so long ago. To this day, I remember his name, the look on his face when he received his number. Much to my relief, his name was not on the wall. "Tin soldiers and Nixon coming, we're finally on our own..."

Also visited the WWII and Korean monuments which were also sobering, but Vietnam was, unfortunately, "my war." Stopped in front of the IRS building and booed rather loudly.

Stayed in Landover, MD. Took the T, I mean Metro, into the city daily. A relatively clean, efficient subway system. One funny note: Each day the Metro would go by RFK stadium just before going underground. ONe day it appeared that there was a tractor-trailer school training future 18-wheel drivers in the parking lot of RFK. The next day, one of the very tall light towers was on the ground in that same parking lot, no sign of the tractor-trailer folks!

Great vacation, so much to see and do. Almost all free, but you do need tickets for the Washington Monument tour, Capitol and Bureau of Engraving. All worth it.

Go, even if you've gone before.

I am trying to help my sister research & purchase a new Minivan.

How much would you take in to consideration for a "never titled" demo depreciation?

The Nissan dealer had a 2007 Quest SE demo on the lot w/ 4k miles on it. The only other options added were the Nav & entertainment systems. Edmunds TMV for this vehicle used is 30k. The dealer wanted to sell it for 35k.

    Is "never titled" worth 5k?

I am not sure what the total value added should be. Any help on how to research this would be helpful. Thanks!

richard- a co-worker was selling fish dinners one year to raise funds for her church. I ordered a dinner for $7.99 as I do like fish. Well, to my "udder" shock and disgust, the fish dinner arrived with the fish whole... like in bones, head, eye balls and tail. I thanked my co-worker then threw it in the trash after she left.

cotmc- No... the jipster never jokes over money or food. I wouldn't say I was "upset" over the high popcorn prices.... just pretty much in a state of shock. It was almost like a flat donation. On the ape costume... my wife says I don't need one.

I got my oil changed at the dealership today....$19.99 Those guys are getting pretty lazy on the upsells. Could have sold me some windshield wipers and a air filter, instead they pulled my car out front saying it was ready, and said I should have those parts replaced soon. :confuse: I already had bought an air filter, just hadn't installed it yet. But sheesh... they're really not that busy.

Naw, they know you and how tight you are with the buck.

They probably guessed (correctly) that you had already bought your own parts at some discount store and just hadn't gotten around to installing them. :)

That is too high. I would look for a new one at that price.
