One would think so. But one Mz. hairgal thought otherwise and it ended up as her shouting at me because I showed her a link that stated that the delivery is excluded.
I guess the emotorcon was too weak for the statement. You know that I would never hurt my Indian friend's feelings. Your country and people are too lovely. :shades:
The schools closed when it reached 90 degrees?!!! If we did that in the South, we would never complete a school year. It was 103 degrees here today and the schools were on regular schedule. Tomorrow is their last day for the year. Now, for the next two months, it will be up to the parents to keep the children cool. :surprise:
"...wanted the AC to continue to run while he/she was doing her/his shopping."
This must be a new social trend. I just noticed it about a month ago. The cars that I see have no pets or children in them. I have to look to see if the people are being cautious or just stupid. What a waste---gas, engine wear, money, safety, etc. How low will a person go to have creature comforts?
Had another person wanting to trade in an FJ this weekend because they couldn't see out of it and almost ran a couple of cars off the road. Too bad they were 8000.00 upside down.
Of course they do look pretty cool. I guess looks are more imprtant than being able to see?
We are trying this new thing in our schools called air conditioning. Seems to work pretty well, regardless if it is a standard 105 degree day in August outside it is still nice and cool inside.
I'm glad that Larmar Alexander did SOMETHING for your schools when he was Secretary of Education. He certainly didn't do anything else for education in this country. In fact, he sent his children to private schools while he boasted about public schools in Tennessee. What a jerk.
To stay on topic: I bet that he didn't drive a Ford.
I would like to order one truck load of your 1:00 AM weather. Send it COD. I'm willing to pay.
I guess i did make it sound like I was complaining, but not really. I did build a fire in the wood stove today, then an hour later had the doors open becuase it got too hot.
I can tell you my tomato plants don’t like this weather, they need some of that southern heat.
I hear you little brother. We hit 106 on Saturday, 100 on Sunday, and I don't know what the temp is today but I just spent an hour with a couple of flakes! This is not my weekend, and monday is not starting out that great either. Mack

Back in the late 80's or early 90's Toyota was sued in California over "hidden fees". This suit required that Toyota Motor Sales USA list every fee on their invoices like dealer holdback, wholesale financial reserve, TDA, Destination Charge (called Delivery, handling, and processing fee on the Monroney sticker), and gasoline. This opened up a big can of worms since customers that have an invoice fetish and want to see the invoice always to not pay the fees. Before the lawsuit it was listed as: Dealer invoice: Retail: Base price: xxx Base price: xxxx Options: xxx Options: xxxx Freight xxx Destination charge: xxxx ________________ _____________________
Yep. It's got a big old blindspot. That's been the only complaint from buyers. You know I have not seen a Pilot in person yet, only the pictures that are circulating around the net. What's up with all manufacturers putting big ugly chrome grilles on their vehicles?

Do all the kids in TN go to school in August or just the ones that weren't paying attention from September through May? :shades:
We here in the Burgh area are due for a return to normal temp. (low to mid 80's) by the end of tomorrow. We've had low to mid 90's for 4 days now. Today while coming home on the PA Turnpike my car outside thermometer said 95 while cruising at 70 MPH. When I was stopped in traffic about a mile from home it read 98 but that was radiated heat from the road, my car and other cars but still that is what it was to the joggers going by. Now those people are nuts.

Ha many of the school buildings in this area are of that era or slightly newer. Where I went to Middle school in Virginia was the old black high school when Virginia schools were still segregated. I think it was built in the 30s and it showed.
I went outside and was actually cold this evening. A cool front went through to the north and it's down to 75. It's been 90s here today and was in 90s down in JoelCountry for an extended weekend. :shades:
We drove a car to get there and back.
Was Lamar Alexander the Secretary of Education Bush brought from Texas. That one had done a wonderful job increasing the dropout rate in the county schools so GW brought him to Washington. Trouble was the computer system for the county schools was having the data altered to make it LOOK like more were graduating. Don't you love how these types manage their resumes! :P

Yeah but in the south schools shut down when you get an inch of snow.
That’s true.
When I lived in S. C. one time when it started to snow (never got more than a ½ an inch that day), while Mrs. jmonroe was in the grocery store she couldn’t imagine why the store had become so crowded so fast. When she commented to one of the other shoppers about the crowd the woman said, “how long have you been in here, didn’t you see it’s starting to SNOW”? :surprise: They were making their last run for essential food items.
When watching the 11 PM news from Augusta that night, I noticed that there wasn’t a telephone pole in that city that didn’t have a pickup truck helping to hold it upright. :confuse:

Long ago I flew to Atlanta for a long weekend in February. I left Dayton in the usual snow falling, deicing the plane, 2 inches on the ground. The next day in Atlanta they closed the Lennox Mall and a bunch of stuff never opened because everyone couldn't go anywhere. There was maybe 1/2 inch of crusty ice and snow mix covering half the road in spots.
With all the accidents that had to be good for the car sales business and the auto repair shops! Even whitewater rafting wasn't popular then.
With all the accidents that had to be good for the car sales business and the auto repair shops!
You brought up a very good point about the sheet metal repair shops.
I worked with a guy in S. C. who was born and raised there. He said his brother-in-law had a collision shop and even though it didn’t snow there often (Only once in the five years I was there. That BIG ½ inch one I just posted about) his shop had more work than they could handle on the few occasions when it did snow. To the point that they took only the cars that weren’t driveable first, then the fender bender types and it took quite a while to get to them.
All the shops down there operated like this but the customers screamed just the same.

That is correct. We don't have the equipment to fight the snow. There is a joke in the South that when it begins to snow, you go to the grocery store and buy bread, milk, and eggs. Also, you stop by the package store and pick up liquid refreshment. :P
No, Lamar Alexander was from Tennessee. Speaking of the dropout rate, there is a trick to it to deceive the public. After a child drops out, you go to the home and get him to come back to school for one day. Now he is re-entered and the dropout figure is erased. If he doesn't come back the second day, you are not required to count him as a dropout figure twice. My office used to hire temporary "Dropout Specialists" just for that purpose. Talk about your creative data entry.
Here's another trick for you. To keep school test scores from looking bad to the public, you remove the dumbest students from required testing courses and place them in art or music classes. The following year, you place them back in the required courses and remove a few others to the art and music rooms. This calls for creative scheduling and secret bookkeeping. Some of my students used to disappear, and I wasn't allowed to ask where they went.
We talk about the tricks of corporate America, but educational systems are no better.
To stay on topic: We used to fail some students in Driver's Education so that the instructors could be assured of keeping their part-time jobs. The things that I saw in 40 years in education.
The local school system administration got burned on this a couple of times a few years ago. Kids at school and the weather turned, so nightmarish chaos ensued trying to get the kids home, inexperienced drivers had a few accidents, buses sliding around, all in all a logistical cluster . . .
Snow has the effect of rendering us blithering idiots for a while.
Now they are very quick to pull the trigger on canceling school. The local joke is "School is canceled because it might snow."

I absolutely agree.
Then there's the fact that the desert or other southern areas with hellish summer weather routinely get to deal with it when the days are longest.
Up north, the bad weather is accompanied by short days. In the summer, while there are rainy and/or humid days, many are very pleasant. . .and long.
You'll not be surprised to hear that the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce doesn't ask me for comments.
