a way out, by the way.

I caught him out a few months ago and it was something to behold. "Well, yeah, that's normally the rule, but here's why it's not when I do it."

    That sort of thing.

    All in good fun. ;)

We're looking at western NC outside of Bryson City. Deep Creek campground just outside the Smokey Mountain National Park. Offer tubing, canoes, fishing, hiking right at or very near the campground. Not sure what river for rafting, probably the New. Glad you liked rafting. It is a real thrill.

Oh, and we will use a few SUV's to carry all our equipment. We figure even by then we'll come out ahead over flying. :P

What is that sayinig about people who are buying a Tahoe or Expedition tomorrow?

"and always buy them before lease end, about 26 to 32 months in, I tire of cars quickly. "

    why is that?

" I do it is carefully choose a model I think in demand, the proper color, right options"

ok, now I understand, you buy what other people want!

Unfortunately I have the same problem, except with women

"And you're the guy who corrects OUR grammer (sic-grammar)?"

Hold on my observant friend. The word "payed" is an alternate spelling for the word "paid". While the word "payed" is the archaic form of the past tense and past participle of "pay", it has not yet been classified as obsolete---only as archaic. Therefore, it is permissible to use the word. I am glad that you "payed" attention to my post, but let us remember that this discussion involves spelling---not grammar.

To stay on topic: I "payed"/"paid" for my car.

Never heard of that one..."payed" ? Good story though.

I caught the "grammar" error as soon as I typed it but the phone rang and I didn't bother fixing it.

    "...what does fallacy mean?"

It means a false idea or tending to deceive or mislead a person. It can mean that you are in error, as when Joel said that you were wrong.

Car salesmen example: It is a fallacy to assume that all car salesmen are dishonest. Many of them try to help their customers.

I'm proud of you for asking that question. The only dumb question is the one that is not asked.

Well, if you insist, all right.

I believe he had his hopes set on a far more prurient definition of fallacy than he got. He has to work on his etymology.

i think you have come up with a new enticement to get people to buy a car.
salesperson pulls a paper from a container with a word written on it. if you can spell it, get $100, know the definition? another $100. get both correct, $250!
there can be many variations: spell it correctly or know the definition, get some towels. get both correct get some floor mats! :)

Oh, that's easily worth the towels!

This somhow brings up the old joke.....

Mary arrived at the Gates of Heaven. While she was waiting for Saint Peter to greet her, she peeked through the gates.

She saw a beautiful banquet table. Sitting all around were her parents and all the other people she had loved and who had died before her. They saw her and began calling greetings to her "Hello! How are you? We've been waiting for you! Good to see you."

When Saint Peter came by, Mary said to him, "This is such a wonderful place! How do I get in?"

"You have to spell a word," Saint Peter told her.

    "Which word?" Mary asked.

    "Love."

Mary correctly spelled "Love" and Saint Peter welcomed her into Heaven.

About a year later, Saint Peter came to Mary and asked her to watch the Gates of Heaven for him that day.

While Mary was guarding the Gates of Heaven, her husband arrived. "I'm surprised to see you," she said. "How have you been?"

"Oh, I've been doing pretty well since you died," her husband told her. "I married the beautiful young nurse who took care of you while you were ill. And then I won the multi-state lottery.

I sold the little house you and I lived in and bought a huge mansion. And my wife and I traveled all around the world. We were on vacation in Cancun and I went water skiing today. I fell and hit my head, and here I am. What a bummer! How do I get in?"

"You have to spell a word," Mary told him.

    "Which word?" her husband asked.

    "Czechoslovakia."

I have been perusing the online inventories of the local Ford and Chevy dealers looking at the mid and full size passenger cars and the one thing I find in common is that most of the stock consist of cars with a)black/charcoal interiors and/or b)rear spoilers. Because the end of the year inventory seems to be dominated by these two items leads me to believe that they are not big sellers.

Both of these are “deal killers” for me. When/if the sun ever comes out in Western Washington the black interior is too hot and the spoiler is a useless piece of hardware that looks bad and is difficult to wash.

The general public is a fickle bunch of SOB’s that can turn on a retailer (of anything) in a heartbeat so trying to second guess them must be a nightmare.

So how do you go about ordering your inventory? And who takes the hit for ordering stuff that won’t move?

The Spoiler is so appropriately named as it does spoil the appearance of every car I have seen one mounted on. IMO
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
I agree on the spoilers but as you know, I'm in the Seattle area too and I can tell you that a beige interior will make a car near saleproof.

Most people just don't like a light interior.

Too light of an interior would not be good. I like the grays, it matches the sky.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
A third of our Range Rovers are sold with ivory or parchment, think pure white and off white kind of cream respectively, interiors. A really high quality leather interior will wear very well in light colors as long as you clean it, feed it and condition it from time to time. Oh just don't wear dark blue jeans in the car too often as it will leave a blue stain on the light leather.

We've been looking at midsize cars and noticed the black interiors also. Neither of us like the dark interior and when we bought our Outlander last year we had them find us one with the tan interior.

I would think in warmer parts of the country people wouldn't want the black interior.

On the Accord we looked at the tan interior had a weird color to it, not attractive at all.

"...Most people just don't like a light interior..."

Personally, I like a light interior. It makes the car cooler in the summer and allows you to actually see what the interior looks like. It does show the dirt and grease though.

When I recently bought a car I had two interior color choices, black or blacker. Wished I'd had other options but almost all sporty cars have black interiors these days. Only one that didn't was the Accord coupe. It had the best looking interior of any I looked at. The tan color really looked good.

As to spoilers spoiling the looks, I say it depends on the car.

Exactly what I thought. I went to one those "no haggle" stealers yesterday to order a new 2009. They claim they sell at $500 over invoice, yet when they printed the sales sheet for me to sign it says FWP, not invoice price and is about $400 higher than the invoice price as listed on Edmunds. Of course they said FWP was their invoice price from the manufacturer. Can anyone lead me to source that explains the difference or offer advise on how I should go about disputing their claim?

    Transportation cost?

If that is not it then print up the invoice from Edmunds and ask them to compare. If they refuse just tell them to shove it and then go somewhere where you can haggle!!

I agree! That would be a step to simplify things wouldn't it? What a novel idea, simplify things? Purchase price plus state fees for tax tag & title.

But no, dealers here tack on all sorts of fees and bogus discounts after starting with an inflated price. You should have seen the figures on the sheet Universal Nissan started me with. It made the 4 square sheet simple. Orlando is more and more a snake pit.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
Maybe they have a advertising fee built into their invoice from the manufacture that doesn't show up on Edmunds.
  • dhamiltondhamilton Member Posts: 878
    1. Is $400.00 worth your time. To each his own, but it wouldn't be for me.

    2. I've been in the car business now for a little while and I've never seen a lighter color interior be cooler than a darker one. I sell BMW's in Texas where the humidity is very high. All interiors get hot, color is irrelevant. It's not an opinion I promise.
[More of a statement I realize.]

3.Congratulations to BMW Sauber for their first win in F1 since the 80's. [Again with the statement thing.]

If you don't think color makes a difference in temperature, go out on the lot on a hot sunny day and put your hand on a black car and then on a white car. Or even better, walk barefoot on some white sand and then some dark sand. Also not an opinion.

A car with all white interior and all white exterior is always cooler then a car with all black interior and exterior. I have a guy who buys two or so Range Rovers from me every year. For his New England Range Rover he usually gets Black or Silver outside with black inside. For his Florida car he always buys white outside with white inside. I have delivered both of those cars to him at the same time on a hot July afternoon and believe me the White one is cooler then the black one.
  • isellhondasisellhondas Member Posts: 20,342
    No question about it.

Go to Las Vegas or Phoenix and see how many dark dolored cars there are. I doubt if the interior color would make much of a difference.
