Bless your heart...13 degrees and no heater! Don't cars have a way of calling our attention to them? Still, I know you must love your Tahoe. I loved mine. Hope you can get that rental to get home. You need a bowl of my vegetable stew. I slow cooked it over night. I could FedEx you a pot of it along with some corn fritters.
Oh not even close, last summer I went north for a conference to Iqaluit. Now that is close to Santa! (to put perspective on that, get on a plane in Buffalo and fly almost due north for just as long as it would take to fly to Caracas, Venezuela) Early July and temps in the mid 30sF
imid....nothing so eccentric as the motorized vanes. Just the electrical module where the auto temp gauge/temp and fan speed resides. I guess the whole thing tells the heater core, and the A/C comp, as well as the fan speed how and when to function. They've got to order it.
They HOPE it will come in tomorrow. Then, they have to install it.
I guess if there is an upside, they said they'd cover a hotel room. That's not much of an option since I don't have any clean underwear anywhere that I can find in the vehicle. That doesn't mean there isn't a pair of underwear somewhere in the back, just that I can't find any. Plus, what in the world am I going to do on the outskirts of Columbus when it's snowing and 15 degrees outside? Go to the hotel and watch reruns of "Jeopardy"?
I took option "B". A nice new Aveo that I'm getting ready to drive back home, in hopes of returning and getting into a nice warm Tahoe.
Thought I had the service writer talked into letting me use a 'vette", that is, until he spoke to the Service Manager.
>, they've been making the same crappy part for over 15 years!
What's to be changed in a motor with nylon gears in a casing and an output arm? If it were a brand other than GM people would say how dependably designed it were. :P
Actually I made an assumption that it's the single manual AC unit. If it's the dual unit the parts might not be shared with cars using more basic parts.
Local guy had a black Marauder with those plates on it, and ran around tailgating folks like he was some undercover detective or something. He even put in those hard-to-see narrow rectangular red or blue light housings inside the windshield. He wasn't a policeman or sheriff, in my opinion. Unmarked cars are not legal to be used in traffic control in Ohio.
I have a feeling the local police stopped him. Haven't seen that car around for a year or more.
Depends, if you live some place where it is always cold in the winter then people just deal with it because it is part of life. Kind of like waiting for the rain to stop in Seattle.
Now if you live someplace like here in Nashville where the norm is in the high 30's low 40's in the winter and we get a 10 degree day then ya it slows it down allot.
As far as a better deal it depends on how late in the evening it is and how many we got out But that holds true any day. If the owner wants 8 units with no excuses and you show up 30 minutes before closing and we are sitting on 7 then there is a real good chance you will get a hell of a deal
I took option "B". A nice new Aveo that I'm getting ready to drive back home,
Sounds like an oxymoron. You'll have to tell us how you liked that experience. Maybe you'll be trading in the Tahoe for an Aveo. No Walmart around to buy a pair of underware?
If the owner wants 8 units with no excuses and you show up 30 minutes before closing and we are sitting on 7 then there is a real good chance you will get a hell of a deal
Sounds like your best hope is near the end of the day...the dealer might be desparate to get in another sale. Early could be worse, he still has hope.
If the owner wants 8 units with no excuses and you show up 30 minutes before closing and we are sitting on 7 then there is a real good chance you will get a hell of a deal
That’s what happened when I bought my 95’ Bonneville Beast. I didn’t have the 30 minute rule down pat then but when we got up to leave after the salesman disappeared going for the OK from the SM (right after they were turning out the lights), he comes out smiling and said, “congratulations, you just bought yourself a car”. When I said, “why couldn’t you accept this offer 20 minutes ago? He said, “this is the last time today we have a chance to sell that car”. :surprise:
This is right in line with what Son #1 told me when he worked as a lot boy for a very large Chevy place in the summer after his junior year of high school. He had to help close the place a couple nights a week and he said there would always be a couple of salesman that would come to him and say something like, “clean that Blue one because it’s going out of here tonight” and another salesman would say the same thing to the other kid. Finally after he saw that those cars were sold, he asked one of the salesman how he could be so sure that he was going to make the sale. The reply was, “I wouldn’t take that deal at 9 AM. but I’m not going to lose it at 9 PM “. Makes sense.

So, how late can you get there before close and get the deal?? What is the record for walk-in, get the deal done, the porter prep the car, and F&I? Well forget F&I because they don't leave until there done.
My friend's Pontiac Grand Am died on the way to the Airport about 15 years ago. His parents who were immigrating from India, were pretty upset when they did not see their son at the airport. He vowed never to buy American after that.
In 1982, I bought a new Accord.. Showed up at 5:00pm on Saturday.. they closed at 6:00pm... Drove home in my new car at 8:45pm, after we called out for pizza...
Oh yeah... I went there to shop for a used Civic... :surprise:
Let's hear it for Portage & Main -- supposedly the coldest intersection in Canada (as long as you ignore the Yukon & NWT, plus Edmonton).
Generally, Edmonton & Winnipeg compete for the title of coldest city in Canada. I saw it a bit over 43 below in still air in Edmonton the winter of '71-'72. They played youth hockey outdoors then, and only cancelled practice & games when it went below -20. Farenheit then, & Celsius now. The good news is that at -40, they both read the same.
the coldest i can remember seeing here is ct is -10F. there is a cold spot on my way to work. a soon as i passed it, i heard a piece on the rear hatch of my explorer go 'crack'. fixing it was a $500 repair, but ford picked all but $50. anyways, there is no way my wife is going to go out car shopping in these temperatures. my daughter is soliciting donations for the 'penguin plunge', so i guess the low temps don't bother her as much.

It depends, 1) is there a NEED for it 2) what's your definition of cold?
1)Yes, if you really need a car, usually a Pontiac that breaks down on the way to the airport you must get a new one right away. 2).Something about a brass monkey?????
Yes, stating "nice" and "Aveo" in the same sentence is indeed an oxymoron. I don't know what I can say about them. They've got a steering wheel, 4 tires, a heater, and they "GO" (kind-of). I guess the best thing I can say about it is it probably drives better than a SMART car. But, that's not a compliment, by any stretch.
Speaking of SMART cars, I saw not one, but two of them stuck on the side of the road (I-71) abandoned, yesterday.
Tahoe has heat. Heading for home. Some mumbo-jumbo about this and that "module" replaced. Bottom line, it was all electrical related, not mechanical.
As irritating as the inconvenience was, Tahoe has some of the best heated seats in the "biz".
Speaking of SMART cars, I saw not one, but two of them stuck on the side of the road (I-71) abandoned, yesterday.
I was wondering about those Smart cars....haven't seen one with snow tires on it.
I would feel silly going in and ordering 4 snow tires for a Smart Car, what could they cost $19.99 each?
As irritating as the inconvenience was, Tahoe has some of the best heated seats in the "biz".
I don't know how much better Tahoe heated seats can be. Any car I've had with heated seats seems dangerous if you forget to turn them down fairly soon...feel like I could get 3rd degree burns if I don't watch it.
Speaking of SMART cars, I saw not one, but two of them stuck on the side of the road (I-71) abandoned, yesterday
They're rear wheel drive, maybe that's why. There's a ton of them in vancouver, but we had them for about 3 or 4 years now. Many are used for advertising. I've never driven one myself though.
Tahoe has some of the best heated seats in the "biz".
Living in Florida, really no need for heated seats. But last year I was in Dayton, Ohio on business in January and my rental had heated seats and I loved it. Definately a "must have" for the north, especially right about now .
I have never used mine in my Avalon, of course my GF uses it everytime she sits in the car. Did anyone see the new commericial with Howie Long making fun of the heated steering wheel in the Dodge pickup?
Yeah.. it's girlie to have a heated wheel, but it's not girlie to worry about your gas mileage?
I'm not sure why they bother with the macho truck marketing... Chevy guys would never buy a Ford or Toyota truck, and Ford guys wouldn't switch, either.. They are preaching to the choir...

Follow up question, for the few buyers on really cold days, is there a chance of getting a better deal than if the weather was warmer?
I love that! BTW, you really are a smart boy with all of those heater drawings and descriptions. I'm impressed.

Bleh. Once my Mazda dealer was out of loaners so they called Enterprise and all that was left was an Aveo. It beat walking.

There should be a heated keyless remote too in case the unlock buttons are too cold to press.
Also heated door handles, heated shifter, and heated stereo buttons would help too. Last but not least heated heater buttons would be a must. :P
