How does he like the vehicle? I just bought one from Carmax the other day at an out of state Carmax and am waiting for it to be shipped here. The price was way lower than anything I've seen locally and their doc. fee is only $149. Even paying the transport fee, the price was too good to pass up.
So far he really likes it; much better than the 05’ Solara convertible he turned in when his lease was up. He likes the idea of leasing because he gets a new car every 30/36 months. We don’t think alike on this issue but we do when it comes to dealing. That’s why he bought here in the Burgh. Like I said it was January 08’ and the dealer up here had 5/6 they were willing to deal on, not like the guys in Delray Beach.
FWIW, I rode in the car several times when I was down there this past January (the week before the Superbowl; I told that tale too) and it rides nice. He offered to let me drive it but I like the idea of being chauffeured around when I’m on vacation.

Well, there goes my offer to get you a deal up here and deliver it for you. I was about do for another vacation.
Congats on your new ride it’s a very nice car and you have the perfect weather for it.

I have a friend who lives in Florida and he said that thru the entire month of June, the state had declared a "tax holiday" ie, no sales tax, for anyone buying a car at any time during June. Plus all dealers were waiving the doc fees for the month. Here are the details:

It's a one owner 2004 330xi fitted with a manual tranny as well as the Cold Weather, Premium, and Sport Packages. The only problem is that I'm a bit concerned that the AWD may make the car somewhat less than entertaining on the track. It will almost certainly need more sporting springs and shocks since Munich doesn't put the sport suspensions on their AWD cars- even with the Sport Package  It's at Mercedes - Benz of Cincinnati so I left my contact info on the web site. If I could trade the Mazda and only pay another $1,000-$1,500 OTD I may be tempted. I'll have to drive it and see if it's as dull to drive as some of my fellow track geeks claim...

I've traveled out of town to get cars before, and it's worked out fine. The local guys may think they have you by the short hairs, but. . .
Have fun!
Twenty years ago and more, a lady who worked with us bought her Jaguar in Detroit, bypassing the one dealer in Dayton and the dealer in northern Cincy. She still has it, 85 or 86, and has a newer little Ford Jaguar X in the garage too. I forgot to ask where she bought the latest one when I was visiting a few months back to setup her computer.

Now that's what I call planning. Had everything worked out didn't ya? That's the use of 'psychology' I was talkin about. Works every time.
Everything really worked out well with this adventure so far. I'm usually not that lucky. I am the planning type and try to look at things from a 1000 different points before diving in. It is a bit out of character for me to "go for it" like I did with this deal.
Welcome to the Florida doc fee, highest in the country.
Thanks to you, Mike, I was prepared for this one to be a shocker. I would have died had I not known this beforehand. In addition to the pre-printed $599 doc fee, there's the pre-printed $6.50 "FL Law Acid Battery & Waste Tire Fee" and the $2 pre-printed "Motor Vehicle Warranty Enforcement Act" fee. (Bill of Sale) I ought to call Tallahassee and tell them that since FL will not be disposing of my tires and batteries, I would like a refund sent asap. I'm sure they will send a check right away, huh?
On the finance contract, there's a $106.05 charge for doc stamps. What the heck is that about? Up here, the only stamps I've ever paid was on real estate. Geez, at least you have no state income tax. Then again, it looks like they make it up elsewhere. The tax man will get his money, one way or another.
it kinda looks like a Nissan Maxima
That's OK, farmer. That was our #2 choice, so I will take that in stride.
You didn't think you'd get away without a dig from on of us jealous people, did ya?
Don't be jealous, go out in the cow pasture and make a withdrawal from the Bank of Chase & Sanborne. You've probably forgot where you buried all that dough over the years, haha.

Houdini, my eyes about popped out of me head and I have a bruise on my chin because of you. You got me on that one, big time!!! As I was reading your post, the first part was at the bottom of the screen so I did not see that it was a joke until I scrolled down! Your joke worked like a charm I am ashamed to admit. My brain had not processed the fact that there's no way that all of the dealers would ever agree to waive doc fees en masse.
Richard, thanks for your comments. I had fun helping you look for the GM; the pleasure was mine. I like a challenge sometimes. I am also glad that you are very happy with your Sebring if I haven't mentioned it before. The GM would have served you well but you'll get a different sort of enjoyment out of the convertible. I mentioned to the wife several times that a convertible would be nice to have. I think she was a little concerned for our 9 year old's safety if there was ever an accident. She's probably right, as she will gladly remind me of, and it wasn't the most practical choice for sure. If I ever win the lottery....
Roadburner, I can't help you with the track part of it but the car itself is very sharp. I've always liked that body style. Now I need to learn all of the codes so I'll know what the heck folks are talking about when I drop in on some of the other websites. I'll google for a cheat sheet that I can print out so I will know an E39 from an E60 and so on.

Oh, they're not taxes, they're fees, LOL, don't ya just love it? And yes, everything you listed is legit. When I discuss prices with dealers now, all I car about is the figure that they use to determine sales tax, which in my county is 6% plus $25. All the fees added after that are state fees.
thanks for the codes.
Beat 'ya to the punch on the bmwcca. Joined on Saturday.
I considered joining last year, knowing that we had an expiring lease coming up --- just in case we ended up going this route. I wish I had; I'd have a $500 check for the CPO coming my way. I put it off and ended up passing the one year eligibility requirement by which I would have already had to buy something to replace the Jeep. Oh well, maybe on the next one.
My BIL said he might be interested in the Jeep if they offer a reduced buyout. I know the residual is $18,xxx and it wasn't worth that in May of 2008. ( IIRC, I would have been 5k underwater on a trade... so the only option was to ride out the lease to maturity) Maybe I'll have another sales story in a few months.
BIL wants me to find out what it is worth so I think that I will see what volvomax has to say.
The pressure to join the ranks increases.....

I'm still waiting until there are no other car payments around. So far the two older kids are being nice and starting in the county college which is downright affordable. Of course the older one will finish up with that soon at which point I fear I'll be finished in another sense.

Are you kidding me :confuse: You have no idea what you are talking about. One using Cap One is a nightmare. and by the way we don't except them here, it is a draft check that takes for ever to pay the dealerhsip. If a dealer doesn't match your credit union than go with your credit union. If a dealer is delivering a vehicle before they have a approval than shame on them and those are delaers you shouldn't do business with but you probably already knew that but did it anyway.
Cap One is so full of BS it is funny.... they say "funds will be available in 24 hours" Bull sh7t.....
Just my 2 cents............. Once again don't truist the dealer.............. Consumers should shop for experience instead of best price.... Pay peanuts and get monkeys!!!

Anyway, all I can do is speculate that a customer tried to avoid the 25% off MSRP he was promised and went straight for the 50% reduction from sticker. Obviously rebuffed by a salesman he decided to tell of his unfortunate experience here...on this forum...Stories From the Sales Frontlines.

Not a question of- trusting the dealer etc etc.U cannot cancel your deal if for example the dealer has u approved for say 7% and u take delivery ,and 1 week later says--Sorry Mr.Smith but your financing did not go through due to unforseen circumstances and as u have already taken the car the new rate is 11%.
So what options does the buyer now have? Can he cancel the deal and return the car?I don`t think so.No dealer would take a car back.
That`s why Always get financed through your local bank or credit union.Banks only finance u if u are approved. They do not and cannot change terms 1 week down the line after they have approved and financed you. U are locked in that rate immediately.
How would a buyer know which dealer does this or not?Especially after u buy a car.U are stuck with it,I guess.
And it`s not a question of trust. It is just business-nothing personal.
Will u as a dealer trust me if I say,I will take delivery today ,,take home the car and then give u a check tomorrow ?I don`t think so and any GM who does this is setting himself for trouble and potential financial disaster.
That`s why it`s always better to get your own financing. With your financing u are not held hostage to the dealer rates and also on the final OTD price.
Your opinion folks?
I actually did this once. We drove from KC to Omaha to buy a RX 300 in 2000. We had made the deal over the phone and all went fine when we arrived except we had left the checkbook at home. Lexus of Omaha said, no problem just send the check when you get back.
First and only car we ever bought from them as the KC Lexus dealer got more competitive in later years...but we always gave them a shot.

So what options does the buyer now have?
You Mr Buyer have every right to nullify the contract and you just had a free ride on them.
You don't even have to replace the gas you used. They made a big mistake and they pay. ps, sure hope you didn't have a trade-in as that may become a sticky wicket, but hey...tell them you want an even more expensive car "for free" to use next time.

They just got moved to Smart Fortwo.
tidester, host
SUVs and Smart Shopper
But as most people trade,,they would be stuck. The dealer can say the car has been sold or has been wholesaled. What do u do then?U are totally stuck with no car to drive.
And I dont think the dealer would take back the car without any compensation? Why?B`cos, then he will have to sell it as a used car after a 10-30% depreciation hit.I am not sure ,here,if he can again sell it as a new car as it has already been titled.
So,too many problems here..Yes,,the majority of dealers are sincere,,but u as a buyer never know who u end up dealing with?
Better safe than sorry and u get to hold all the aces!!
In all my years I've never run across that but if I ever did I'd let my lawyer handle it if it came to that.

I'm pretty sure contracts have a clause that the deal is contingent on financing. If they did their due dilligence this scenario should be pretty rare.
The dealers are not stupid. Try to pay with a check, and more often than not, they will wait for the check to clear before they let you drive off with the car.
You certainly won't with the guys on here, but some of the snap delivery places may try it.
Any change to the contract is an invitation to call it quits. They change it, you decline it. Contract is over. As far as giving the car back and titling, it wasn't titled to you because they knew they were going to gouge you for an increased rate and never did paperwork. Hence low mile "new" demo for the next guy.

That happened to me when I bought my Mitsubishi Galant in 2001. The funny thing is, it was the opposite. It was on a Saturday afternoon, but by the time I got to the Finance office it was evening. The FM offered something like 9.8%, so I said "No deal, I'll finance through my Credit Union, see you Monday".
FM: "Oh, which one?"
Me: "Twin City Federal CU"
FM: Hm, let me see", pulled out a chart "Good news, for your tier you get 7.49%, 7.24% with ACH payment"
Me:"OK, much better, let's do it".
And, being somewhat new to the country and car financing, I bought GAP for $499.00 and extended warranty for something like $1,795.00
On Monday next week I get a call: "Well, you have to stop by. We have to resign."
My heart sank, thinking about stuff being too good to be true and such.
"Your CU has a special I didn't know about" (It was the beginning of the month).
"They have 5.99%, 5.74% with ACH."
No kidding, it was for real. I also had thought the whole thing over and since we were resigning, requested to cancel the GAP and EW. FM was not happy ("Man, I shouldn't have called you"). He canceled the GAP, but did not want to budge on the EW. At the end agreed to add the refundable option (full refund if no claims). I got all on paper.
For a month or so I had a feeling something was going to happen, but never did.
After reading horror stories here about spot financing I find mine very interesting.
And after reaching the mileage of the EW (one of the requirements) for the refund I carefully completed the documents and got the full refund (the check cleared too). If anyone is interested in that part of the story, it's posted in the Extended Warranty discussion here, with the follow-up here
The sale itself had an ugly development, but that's a different story.
Sunday the wife and I crossed state line and visited another dealership that was open. They had my # 1 color and everything was good until we headed toward his office. My wife caught sight of a new 2010 Prius and it was love at first sight. She took it for a test drive and explained to me that our marriage could be in danger if we left without "HER" car. As a wise man once said" When wife is 6 months pregnant and half your age it is best to listen"
The salesman insisted that we pick the one car that we were going to buy. I explained over and over that we wanted a price on both. He couldn't fathom the fact that I was over a barrel and was either leaving with 2 or 0 cars.
Will finish in another post.
