It did not last until Saturday 12-19-09. Hannukah started at sundown Friday 12-11-09 and it lasts 8 days so that means it is over at sundown on Friday 12-18-09. Then again you Canadians might be working to a different calendar.

Perhaps you have a hidden desire to be a car salesman and you don't realize it. Maybe you think you would rather be a dog catcher, but maybe you would actually like to be selling Gennies.
I used to work for Reynolds & Reynolds. I don't know for a fact but I douvt a 19.95 Memory stick would work for a typical dealership using ADP, Reynolds, UCS or otherwise. The software that those guys sell won't save on a memory stick (the software is not as common as MS Word), so all you would have is raw, unformatted data.
Because of the issues identified in earlier posts about dealers either not running regular backups or not doing them correctly, that the computer companies identified above offer a remote backup service as an option to purchase.
speaking of printers, ours stopped working, for seemingly no reason. it's too old to get tech support, although you could pay for some and take a chance that you could get an answer. i did an internet search, same as i do when researching a new car, and read a post about a built in bug that would shut the printer down after 10,000 copies. it also had a solution which involved pressing and holding sequences of buttons. guess what? It worked!

Just want to clarify the Hannukah facts - Since all Jewish holidays start at sundown, the first day of Hannukah would have been Saturday the 12th. The eight night was Friday 12-18 but the eight day was 12-19. My son, a freshly minted Bar Mitzvah this past Saturday, would want me to point this out.
The search now begins for potential reliable used cars for his older sister.
"Maybe Richard got mixed up and thought you would make a good Rabbi, not a car salesman."
What?! You've been in the eggnog. That is the Joke of the Year for 2009. I could have total dementia and never confuse those two professions as relates to our poster.
Of course, they just hose us on the ink cartridges now.
Take your old cartridge to an outfit that will refill it for less than half the price of a new one. That's what I've done for the last 2 years. Before that I bought a kit to refill the old ones myself but found them hard to come by thus I went to a refill shop. I guess I could have gone online to find the in home refill kits but I didn't.
So far no problems. You might want to look into this.

True story - a couple of years ago I was buying a printer and another customer in the store gets chatting. Says he found a place that sold refurbished HP printers with the ink cartridges for less than the cost of just buying the ink. He'd buy the printers, take the cartridges and toss the printer.

I mentioned a while back a new show on TNT called "Men of a Certain Age" and that one of the primary characters is a salesman at a Chevy dealership.
If you've Tivo'd (or otherwise saved) the show, please stop reading this post now as I'm going to summarize the episode that aired tonight I think the salesman who frequent this forum might get a kick out of it.
. , . . . . .
Father and daughter enter the dealership and our character greets them. They spot a used Solstice with a sticker price of $18,500. Dad says that daughter has saved $10K and, because she was on honor roll, Mom and Dad would kick in another $5K towards a car.
Salesman check with SM, who says they are into the car for $13,400 and could get $17,500 all day long. Dad and daughter are down. Daughter begins to cry, which causes Dad agrees to the higher price.
Salesman gets a conscience attack, and starts selling cars for a price that the customer writes down (I'm guessing invoice or close to it). Word of mouth allows our intrepid salesman to be #1 for the month - and then he opens the envelope containing the paycheck.
Husband comes home and gives wife (who, BTW, encouraged him to attempt this new approach) the envelope. As she reviews the dismal payday, he comments that, starting the following Monday, he's going to start making young girls cry again.
Classic - I guess you can't make it up in volume.
Lots of literary license taken, but enjoyable nonetheless.
I tried refilling the cartridges myself and the results were dismal.
From what I have been told cartridges are not good for refilling. They usually can be refilled once but you are pressing your luck refilling them after that. Personally I have never used refilled cartridges but places I have worked at have with dismal results. Most IT people will tell you not to use refilled cartridges as they perform poorly and can damage the printer.

jimbres....I just dumped my Brother color laser. Lasted a year, which I think is pretty dismal. It costs as much to fix as it would cost for a new printer.
Finally succumbed to an inkjet (as the consumables on laser printers is high, and they don't last as long as advertised). Got an HP 8500 AIO....wireless on one of those "Black Friday" deals from Staples. I'm loving it so far. Easy to set up....great print quality. Bought the extra large cartridges to go with it. Using it for about a month. No glitches. Haven't had to change the "small" cartridges in it yet, either. I use it every day, too.
I've mentioned before, I'd like to try my hand at selling cars. Doubt I'd be very successful. It would have to be a mark that I like (say, Acura/Honda, Porsche, Ford might be fun right now). I'd probably try to sell the same way as I buy. Here's the car....you like it or you don't. Here's the price.....you either like it, or we shake hands and part with no deal so I can get to the next "potential" buyer. I'd want to do my own deals, without manager approval (assuming I'd return good gross).
As I said, I probably wouldn't be very successful at it.
From what I have been told cartridges are not good for refilling.
That has not been my experience at all. In fact the ink that is used by the place I go to is better than the original. When I’ve used a high light marker on pages printed from the OEM I got smears. That has not happened with the refills from the place I go to.
IT people will tell you not to use refilled cartridges as they perform poorly and can damage the printer.
The only thing that I’ve noticed with refills is that the cartridge “getting low” indicator does not work. So I’ve been told, that is because with the OEM there is an element in the cartridge (possibly a resistor) that burns open when the level is low. Don’t hold me to this because I haven’t torn one apart to confirm this, I’ve only been told this. Once that circuit is made if you check for ink level it always shows low even on a newly filled cartridge. I’ve noticed this both when I’ve refilled my own (thought I screwed something up even though it printed fine) and when I’ve checked a store bought refilled cartridge as soon as I got home.
FWIW, the place I go to can either refill my old cartridge which I then have to drop off then come back to get when it’s ready or they can give me a cartridge that they’ve already refilled and I’m on my way. I’ve done it both ways so now I take the one that is ready to go and the people that work there are very friendly and knowledgeable too.

I tried refilling the cartridges myself and the results were dismal. I guess that's why I haven't tried the refill places but now
We used to buy cartridges from a guy who refilled them, and sold them cheap. One day one of them exploded in the printer. He cleaned the printer out, which took 2 days and we were without a printer for that time, and he offered to refund the balance of the amount of ink not used, which was most of the rest of the refill. I risk my printer, and he will just refund me the amount I didn't use. I told him never to come back again.
On the consumer show Market Place in Canada, they compared manufacturers refills to off brand refilled ones. The manufacturers brand actually ended up cheaper, the ink was of a better quality and the cartridge lasted much longer.
Quite often people try to save a few bucks, but it really costs a lot more.
The only thing that I’ve noticed with refills is that the cartridge “getting low” indicator does not work.
I think the manufacturer makes a code so the cartridge can't just be filled, until the refill guys can break the code.
Our refill guy always asked for our old refills when we got a new printer, so he could try to break the code.
If you are satisfied with the results you get then go with it. The thing is, most people look at the initial price and feel they are saving money, unless you know how many copies you are printing, you don't really know the true price.
ATTENTION BUYERS: BEWARE::::: First Choice Kia is using a company out of Chicago called Rev It Up, or Rush Hour Events! Both of these companies are owned by the same owners! They send out mass mailers telling you about this huge sale, and to come in and claim your prize! This is a HOAX! My friend worked for this company! Here is how it works: They come into the dealership, put prices on the vehicles that are approximately 5-7 K higher than book value, and the dealer actually lets this happen. Rev It Up and Rush Hour sends in a traveling team of sales people that actually don't even have homes to return to, they are referred to "Merchs" or "Mercenaries." They also bring what is called a "Closer" to rip your head off if the salesman can't get you hooked on a vehicle! They then pack up and leave hoping to never see a local buyer in that area again, as the buyer finally figures out they got completely ripped off! Do your self a favor, if you go into a dealer running a "Super Sale Event" and you get a flyer, call the dealership directly and ask them if Rev It Up, or Rush Hour Events is running the sale. If they mention yes and the name James Davis associated with these two companies appear, save yourself some dignity and don't fall for this marketing trick. These sales are being highly looked up by state governing agencies and there are many pending lawsuits being filed after every sale!
I worked for a company that tried to do this once. The company they used for the "sale" was G & A sales or something like that. It was embarrasing! They prey on the people with low income & low intelligence at these things. They bait people in with some cheesy give-a-way. Every customer that came in "won" some stupid time-share get-a-way that wasn't worth the paper it was printed on. The sales team they brought in were a bunch of sharks. They blatently lied to customers.
One of the sales sharks ended up stealing a license plate from the dealership and was using it a few months later when he was out of the state.
I was honestly ashamed to be associated with a dealership that would do this, but the Owner learned his lesson.
If you are satisfied with the results you get then go with it. The thing is, most people look at the initial price and feel they are saving money, unless you know how many copies you are printing, you don't really know the true price.
Like I said I am satisfied so far, no blown up cartridges or anything even close to that. As far as saving money, I don’t have and aversion to that as long as the quality is there and it has been so far. I don’t count the number of copies I make but the refills don’t appear to be any worse than the OEM’s. When the day comes, that me as a home owner, has to worry about the cost of prints I'll start buying Hyundais. :P
If I had any problems with refills like you have had, I wouldn’t want them in my printer either, just not worth it. It appears that not all refills are equal.

Ideal is an external hard drive. Use one of the free programs that saves an "image" of your hard drive to the external hard drive. Use a boot CD for your computer operation system to start computer without using original hard drive. Then use the external drive and the free program to write the copy of the hard drive to your computer's original hard drive. Be sure in advance you have a boot CD that will work for your OS and you can read USB external hard drive.
Presto, you have an exact duplicate of the hard drive as of the day you did the most recent backup. You lose only changes made since that last (frequent) backup. The settings, drivers, and preferences are all up-to-date unlike with a complete restoration of hard drive from a recovery disk where all the drivers and updates have to be applied.
I've gone to getting cartridges for my HP refilled at Walgreens. The color and black & White have worked very well for me. I had used Cartridge World before that and found Walgreens cheaper. The only ones who don't like refilled cartridges are the printer name companies selling the new ones.
It's like changing the oil in a car; it works no matter what good brand of oil you put back in.
Someone had trouble with a printer. Call the company helpline or use the Chat feature to talk to a technician. I love HP's chat. It gets around the language barriers so I don't have to call back until I get someone whom I can understand. I don't know how many other companies have Chat for support, but I like it really well and it will influence my next purchase of a laptop because of the ease of getting help.
call the dealership directly and ask them if Rev It Up, or Rush Hour Events is running the sale.
Yeah, because the dealership will actually tell customers who is organizing their sale. :confuse: I doubt that anyone other than management actually even knows, or cares what the name is of the organizing company as long as they move cars and get customers in the door.
Hey ‘jip’, you’re kinda cheap and like adventures, you’d fit right in with refills
I prefer the term "frugal", but close enough. Refills aren't my cup of tea. I keep imaging some poor sap in a back room, black ink all over his hands and face, trying to squeeze in that last drop of ink to refill a cartridge. I prefer to spend a little more for the convienece of high priced store bought ink. Which qualifies me for a "big spender" label, and leaves you still in the el cheapskate category. :P
I send the old ink cartridges into my sons school. They get so much money for each one they return for reconditioning purposes.
Let's all continue to work together. Maybe, we can get this thread on ink cartridges to last until the new year. :surprise:

One day, when your cartridge blows up, you'll have to send us a picture of you all coated in black ink.
Actually, I think the ink refill places are mostly pretty good. I think our ink refill guy was a little shady, the problem happened when he was trying to make a new kind of refill which he hadn't mastered yet.

Yeah, because the dealership will actually tell customers who is organizing their sale. :confuse: I doubt that anyone other than management actually even knows, or cares what the name is of the organizing company as long as they move cars and get customers in the door.

:surprise:
Thanks for the tip, GG.
I only use the manufacturer's ink cartridges and their photo paper. I'm a baby seal when it comes to printers
Although I buy regular print paper from Costco.

I am surprised a Kia dealer would get involved with something like this, there sales have been trending upward quite nicely.
I could see these guys being hired to clear out some Saabs, or Yugos where you won't have any repeat business.
