Wouldn't it be the invoice price less the holdback which is two percent? :confuse:

    :)
  • joe131joe131 Member Posts: 998
Not by reading the CR ad. Invoice minus holdback would be too simple.
It mentions not only the holdback, but also secret incentives and reductions in dealers' true costs, but does not name them.
I'm just wondering if anyone here actually PAID for the CR service and would be willing to share the "secrets".

I bought the CU 3-month, $39 access back in November, just to see what they recommended I try to pay for the Azera. When I went to the Hyundai showroom, they gave me a price a few hundred LESS than CU said I should try for! $39 down th' drain...;)

    derrelhgreen,

Are you associated with a Hyundai dealership? Where did you get the following info:

"Forget that "knocking sound" you read about.
I believe that it was addressed long ago by the factory, and there may even be a TSB on it."

I'd sure like to have Hyundai fix mine!

    No. I wish I were.

If there is no TSB, there should be one by now, as there have been many people that have had the problem.
Some have even fixed it themselves.

As we grow in numbers and strength, we will go to the dealership with the
'fix' in hand and all printed out as we have learned how the hard way.
Don't laugh at that, as we have done it before over on Freds,' the TDI group.
'Course, there are over 18K active members World-Wide!

Where are you located BTW? :confuse:

To keep my post topic related, I have an email from a greater Los Angeles dealer
who quotes a price of $26,750 for a loaded LTD with an MSRP of $30,545.
Isn't that $3795 below MSRP, or $1626 below invoice?

I hear others speak of even lower quotes. :surprise:

I paid for it 2 weeks ago and they showed the dealer holdback as $508 on a 2007 ultimate. I knew that wasn't the case since my dealer was deducting the holdback from the factory invoice to arrive at their advertised price and it was $800 or $900 (don't remember exact figures). However, CR was good enough to credit my VISA account since the report was basically useless.

In addition to the holdback, there has to be factory to dealer incentives (bonus per unit sold). My business bought an '07 Sonata at $1800 under invoice in Feb. and then an additional $2500 in factory to consumer rebates was deducted. We got the car at $4300 under invoice.

A friend of mine is getting an '07 Azera from the same dealer on April 25. Price is $1500 under invoice plus $1,000 consumer rebate for a total of $2500 under invoice. The car has XM, Ultimate package & floor mats...$25,705 plus doc fee ($189) & TTL.
  • stcroixboystcroixboy Member Posts: 63
Fabulous price on the Limited w/Ultimate including XM! Thanks for sharing. Is this dealer in the Northeast?
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
Yes. It's Towne Hyundai in Denville, NJ. This is an internet deal, check their web site. Price is supposed to be valid until the end of the month. Dealer had to get this car from another dealer to get the desired color. Original price was for a car without XM, but salesman said he would honor the original quoted price.

I never met the salesman. The Sonata was for my brother so he & his wife drove the approx 100 miles to pick up the car on Feb 24. He said there were a "ton" of people there that Saturday to take delivery The salesman told my brother they had sold 70 Sonatas so far in that month, which represented about half of their Hyundai sales.

They were great to do business with, no hidden charges or BS. Just a nice, honest straight forward deal.

I just got a new '07 Venetian Blue Limited w/ Ultimate and floor mats yesterday for $25,173 after rebate. After I was quoted that price I checked around and no other dealer could even get close. This was at Hyundai of Everett in Washington. Very hassle-free experience. No extra fees with only a $35 doc fee.
    Love the car!

We just purchased a new 06 Azera with the Ultimate package and are having trouble finding a dealer that sells the Hyundai Protection Plan. I would like to shop the 10/100 plan. Does anyone know of any dealers that sell this warranty and discount the price? I have only been able to get two prices so far and both were in the 1200-1300 range. Thanks for any help/information you can provide.
  • derrelhgreenderrelhgreen Member Posts: 234
    :)

    An excellent price for sure.

If Edmunds is showing us a correct invoice figure, you bought yours at $3083 below invoice.
That price is $5267 below Maroney.

Now if only I can find a price close to that here in Southern California?

    :)
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
That is a terrific price...about $530 less than the NJ dealership (plus $155 lower on the doc fee). I don't think anyone will beat that price for a new (non-demo) Azera comparably equipped.

It's $500 lower than you posted a few days before. Was the difference due to more negotiating, a different dealership or some other "special?"

    RE: 566
The price of the Hyundai OEM warranty depends upon the state where the car is purchased. FL considers an extended warranty to be an insurance policy and all dealers are required to charge the same fee. I believe that at the time I purchased my Azera, the price was $1118. This fee was filed by Hyundai US Motor Company to the State of Florida Department of Insurance.
  • burneedogburneedog Member Posts: 19
Can the OEM extended warranty be purchased after the new car purchase? In other words, how long after I buy the car do I have to buy the warranty if I want it?
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
    RE: 581
I believe that the OEM extended warranty can be purchased for up to one year(?) after original date of delivery, but at an increase in price.
  • stcroixboystcroixboy Member Posts: 63
Wow, their website is really an eye opener! They have offers considerbly under invoice on most models.

Makes me wish that I still lived in Mahwah, NJ. Maybe I can use their website offers to loosen up the dealers here in Chicago. Or grab a flight to Newark and drive.......I don't think so. :)

    Thanks for the info.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
That's a decision you will have to make. I must admit ignorance of your milage from Chicago to NJ. If there's a big enough savings and you have the time, it could be worth your while. 2 years ago, if flew from CT (actually took airport "limo" service from CT to JFK) to Ft Meyers FL to pick up my Sonata.

I spent 3 nights with my elderly parents and then drove home (1365 miles). Total cost of my trip, trans to airport, airfare, gas, tolls & one night in motel driving back) was just over $300. If I had just flown down and driven back, I would have had one more night in a motel which would have added about $50 (although I spent more than that while visiting :) ).

I had the time, so it was worth it to me to save $1500 (after expenses of trip). Figure all the angles. Maybe it will work, maybe not.

    Good luck.

Does anyone know if Azera's sold outside of California are Calif. compliant? I'm thinking of buying an Azera in Texas and then giving it to my mother in California in a few years.
  • floridabob1floridabob1 Member Posts: 1,190
I believe that most, if not all, cars sold today (07) are CA compliant.
  • derrelhgreenderrelhgreen Member Posts: 234
The next time you are at a dealer, raise the hood on an Azera and read the label located
somewhere there under the hood, and it will tell you if the car is fifty state certified.

Almost all new cars sold today are fifty state legal.
The only new car I can think of off hand that is not legally available here is the
2007 Mercedes Benz E-class Bluetec model equipped with the diesel motor.

That car is also not available new in the four copy-cat New England states that foolishly follow the C A R B lead.

However, it is possible to bring in one of these non certified vehicles as a used car,
that being defined as any vehicle having more than 7500 miles.

So in your case, I am sure that if a Azera by chance did not meet our strict emission rules
which I seriously doubt, it would be possible to register it here as a used vehicle.

    HTHs

I've gotten a dealer down to 24,000 + TTL for a 2006 model. Is this a fair price? Sounds like 2007s are selling for the neighborhood of 26,000.
  • derrelhgreenderrelhgreen Member Posts: 234
    No. That is too much!

Which model with what equipment and color? Where are you located?

A dealer in the greater Los Angeles area has a used one for $16K.

    Check on AutoTrader.com . . There are 128 new 2006s listed.

If you include the new and used 2006s together, more than 700 listed.

True, you can get fully loaded 2007s with all options in the mid to high $26K range.

    :)
  • ericonlineericonline Member Posts: 21
It's a 2006 Limited Ultimate Package Black on Beige. I'm in Houston.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
I don't think that that is a real good deal. It's already an extra year old as far as depreciation is concerned.

One of my friends is getting an '07 Azera Limited w/ XM, Ultimate Pkg and floor mats for $25705 + TTL (plus $189 doc fee). Does your $24000 include doc fee? Watch out, that $24K price could easily balloon up several hundred dollars when all dealer fees are added in.
  • ericonlineericonline Member Posts: 21
I think you're right. I'm gonna hold out for close to 23,000 or else I'll just get the 07 model. There seem to be quite a few 2006's left out there. I wouldn't be surprised if the rebate goes up on May 1.
  • jack_spratjack_sprat Member Posts: 29
you should be able to get it for 22,500 incl all dealer fees. The 2008 models will be out soon and the price on the2006 will fall even further. In dec 2006 I was quoted $24,700 +ttl for the same fully loaded LTD.
  • ericonlineericonline Member Posts: 21
Got a Black with Black leather Azera with Ultimate Package and Floor Mats on Tuesday. It was the model display car from the showroom. It already had tinted windows so I didn't have to negotiate that. I got them to sell me the car for 26,000 and 500 more for my trade-in than what CarMax quoted me. However they insisted that I pay for $300 etching that was supposedly on the car. I got them to cut that in half, and they also charged a $50 Doc fee. Overall I think a good deal.
  • bg523bg523 Member Posts: 4
I have read these posts pretty carefully, and tried to use them in my search for an '07 Azera Limited, XM, Ultimate, black-on-black. I have contacted dealerships mentioned in NJ, CT, and NY. (I live in CT.) The price I gave was $25,705, before TTL, which I found here. That was for a non-xm, but even given a markup for that feature, I have had every single dealer bow out, stating the offer was too low. I think I have priced myself out of the market - the process seems to be - the salesman who contacts me is interested, but wary, because of the numbers. Then he or she speaks with the sales manager, and they have invariably come back saying the offer is too low. By almost 1,000 dollars, is the consensus. These aren't negotiations - the conversation is over, done. I am in the middle of this situation now - need the car, but can't seem to put my finger on the correct price. Any ideas? Am I off by a grand or so?
  • derrelhgreenderrelhgreen Member Posts: 234
Do not try to buy for a good price by talking to the salesman or as we sometimes call them out here . . Greeters.

Those are the people standing outside at the dealership who are there just waiting for you and are only to happy to meet you at the curb and even help you out of your current ride. They want a commission, and their commission must be paid by someone, and that person is you.

Talk instead dealing by email or telephone with every dealership within a distance that you would consider to travel to.

If you call, always ask to talk to the Fleet Manager' as he is the person at the dealership that knows exactly what the bottom line will be. Tell this person what you want and ask him what is his best price.

How many dealers are within your area? Have you tried all of them?

There is a website where you can, using different zip codes other than your own, contact five dealers closest to that zip.
If any of those dealerships are interested, they will respond with a fair price.

Your price may be as you have indicated perhaps a few hundred dollars to low? Just keep trying and see if that is so.

    Good luck.

    :)

I posted the $25,705 price. If you check Town Hyundai's web site and click on "internet pricing" you will see that they are currently offering the Azera's at $1800 under invoice, plus there is a $1,000 rebate, making the net price $2800 under invoice.

My friend is getting the black on black. Towne had to get the car from a nearby dealer, as they only had a couple Azera's on the lot and he didn't care for the colors. His wife can't get off work Wednesday, so I'm driving him the approx 100 miles to get the car. We're leaving from Trumbull, CT. Don't waste your time trying to get a car from the Bridgeport dealer. The salesman there wanted wanted $26,580 (after $2500 rebate) + their doc fee is $398 (vs $189) and, when I bought my Sonata 2 years ago they would have charged a $500 advertising fee. Oh yeah, that price was for an '06 in Bridgeport vs '07 at Towne.

This price is available. Just check their web site.

Consider trying to close your deal on the last day of the month. Dealers and salesman are a bit more interested -- to make their numbers. By 4 PM on the last day of March, I had 3 dealers willing to take my price. No one told me there was going to be $1000 rebate two days later, though. Several rejected my offer for a fully loaded 2007 Ultimate XM at $28K + TTT. Then 3 were interested and one made the deal. I thought that was a good price ($2600 below sticker) but others have apparently done better.
  • elvisluvselvisluvs Member Posts: 29
Bg523- I had a similar experience when we bought our 04 xgl. I go in with my cars direct print out and the internet ad from towne- they said they couldn't touch those prices. Milford wanted $21-22 for a loaded 2004 sonata. We bought the $27.7 sticker xg for the same price in New Rochelle. The bad- they closed in the last year or two. Bhmr has the right idea. If you don't want to go south to get it- autofair seemed to have quite good pricing in the past. Iirc there was someone here with the moniker hyundaisalesman (?) who might be able to help. I do think it boils down to how much do you want to save vs. how far will you go to get it. I have no experience with Lia but every once in a while their online ads seemed pretty good. Between the mentioned places (towne, fitz, autofair, even lia) my guess is most of the smaller volume places around here would be hard pressed to get you a better deal. The previous poster who mentioned eom purchases- great strategy to remember. If your future car isn't black- is it a deal buster? I suspect some colors are more negotiable than others- gl

I want to thank all you guys for pitching in with the advice. Just for the record, I am in contact with Towne - the probelm is with the color. No black-on-black's is what they tell me. Bridgeport gave me a run-around, and Danbury was even worse. Way worse. Also spoke to Lia in Hartford, but they couldn't get close on the price. The guy at Towne seems up-front. He gave me the option of ordering, but that takes 6 weeks, and puts me out of the current rebates. He won't make the deal, not knowing what the new rebate/incentive structure is. Which is honest. So I may wait to see, as well. Or change color, or just drop back and punt. (I did read an article in some car mag about the new Hyundai "Genesis" which makes the Azera look a bit fuddy-duddy. Amazing looks, specs, should be out in mid '08.) Meanwhile, I'm still looking. Last info - I have a solid offer of 26,200 plus TTL for the model/color I want. I think I'll take that, rather than wait for Towne. This is from another dealership in NJ - problem is, he has to go get the car. He says he has three possible. We'll see. When I make the deal, I will post the location, if anyone is interested. Again, appreciate all the help.

I wish I could read all that fine print in Towne's weekly ad specials. The Elantra price looks really good at $9388 with automatic, A/C and keyless entry among other things. Can anyone post a link to a pic which allows me to read the fine print in that ad?
How'd they come up with that price?
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
At Towne, the internet price is the internet price. Time of the month means nothing.

Towne's current advertised internet price is $2800 below INVOICE, not sticker (including teh general rebate).

Forget their "weekly special ads." Like all other dealers, those ads are designed for the uninformed. I, too was skeptical, before we bought our Sonata on 2/24, afer seeing the "weekly specials ads." One phone call showed the internet pricing beat the stuffing out of the week special prices.

We had no BS on the Sonata, $4300 under invoice including the rebates + $189 doc fee + ttl. OTD $18,189 for a car with MSRP of $22,080 before doc fee and TTL (6% sales tax).
  • joe131joe131 Member Posts: 998
So then, how do you think Towne came up with the $9388 price on that Elantra? Can you read the fine print in the ad?
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
No, I cannot read the fine print in the "weekly specials ad". But ignore the ad and contact the dealership telling them you saw their website deals.

We picked up my friend's Azera today. Everything as promised, no BS, no F & I pressure. Very friendly people. Salesman was well informed about the car, explaining various features and knowing the answers to all questions.

They are a very professional dealership. This was my first personal experience with them as I did not go to Towne when my partner picked up his Sonata on Feb. 24.

There must have been another half dozen customers in the show room when we arrived at about 11:30 today (a Wednesday). I thought that was good activity for a mid-week morning.

The sales manager even told me that he recently had a customer tell him that he learned of the dealership by reading postings on "Edmund's forum" by someone in CT  . They sure seem to take an interest in their customers and I highly recommend this dealership.

P.S. They even include a free oil change @ 1,000 miles. Salesman offered, "since you're not from the area, anytime you're near here we'll do a free oil change." That's not likely to happen, but thought it is useful information that the first oil change is free.

    +62 cargo mats
    +150 national advertising
    =26085 Total Invoice of car
    -1800 dealer takes below invoice

Do you think this is a good price. I know the 1000 rebate is over by it will most likely come back. The advertising fee and the doc fees are just add ons no matter what they call them. Just wondering if the end price is a good one. Thanks.Oh and its an additional $1530 for the premium package.

What year is this quote? That sounds like a good price for a 07' but and okay price for a 06'.

    Good Luck with you purchase.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
That's a real good price for the '07 Azera Limited. Invoice on the premium package is $1411 according to Edmunds. They will probably offer the package at invoice also.

Towne is hard to beat and easy to do business with. No games, just a nice straight deal. Very nice staff.
  • jasesun23jasesun23 Member Posts: 2
It is a 2007. It's good to know that is a good price. I'll just have to see what the rebates are for this month. Oh and the 1530 is invoice plus tax. They are giving us the premium package at invoice.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
Your price before tax and dmv fees is $23,474. That's $2040 less than Fitzmall is quoting!

You are talking with Towne Hyundai, right? Haven't found anyone better than them. They'll treat you great. (mention the guys from CT to them, they'll get a chuckle out of it)
  • monkeycbmonkeycb Member Posts: 4
Not that this is anywhere near Towne Hyundai, but I did have a great experience with Hyundai of Everett, just north of Seattle, WA. Bought an '07 Limited w/Ultimate package and floor mats for $25,173 +TTL And no other bogus fee's besides a modest $35 doc fee. Fantastic experience and I'm loving the car.
  • rob87rob87 Member Posts: 10
My wife and I were planning on getting a Sonata, but we thought we'd take a look at the Azera. We drove it and loved the quietness and comfort. The one we drove was a 2006 SE, and we bought it for $20k out the door. So far we love the car - the power, space, comfort and serenity. Not to mention it looks beautiful. My only concern is that I haven't seen anothe Azera anywhere. Hope it isn't going to be a rare, discontinued model.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
Your price is better than Towne's price. If you don't have XM you'd have to add $260 (or whatever) to get the same car my buddy bought. But that would still be a couple hundred less that Towne, not that anyone from the east cost would go to Seattle area to pick up a car.

Did your price include an owner loyalty rebate?

    Discrimination at Sunnyvale Hyundai
    Sunnyvale Hyundai
    Sunnyvale, CA 94087

    Felt mentally stressed.
    Felt totally discriminated.

Trying to press charges to this dealership by treating unfairly the customer and also discrimination.

This is regarding an incident happened on May 20th 2007 (around 4:00 PM ~ 5:00 PM) at Sunnyvale Hyundai.

As a customer, I went into the dealership to look for an used 2006 Azera.
I searched internet and had the cost figured out.
The first sale person was good to deal and he said that he has to talk to the manager. Then the manager came.

    The problem starts from here.
I was not going to pay more than the amount that I had in my mind, and since the price did not match, I just walked out. At this point I had several brochures with me (2007 Azera, Sonata, Santa Fe).

Suddenly the sales manager takes the brochures from me and he says that I can not have more than one brochure.
I asked why and also asked if there is any enforcement on how many brochures the customer can have.
He said, yes and just one brochure for you.

I felt violated and discriminated. Then I asked, if I could have his business card. Then he said "no". Then he tries to throw me out of the dealership threatening by calling the cops.
He then tells me to give the home phone number so that he can call my parents???
I am 38 years old working professional as an Semiconductor design engineer at the multibillion company.

I asked if I did anything wrong.
Then he says "get out" and continues to threaten me by calling the cops.

The only thing that I did was to walk in the dealership and ask the best offer that they can give me. Since the price was not reasonable, I just walked out.

First, I don't understand why the sales manager took the brochures out from me.
Why insist to have my phone number to call the parents???
    Threatening to call the cops.
    Unfair treatment from the dealership.
  • chuck1chuck1 Member Posts: 1,405
    Wow!

You know, I am sure there is two sides to this story. But the same thing happened to me when I kept asking a question regarding rebates and they (the dealer at the time) wouldn't give me a straight answer.

So they asked a question - are you going to buy today? And then I said, "No I just hang around car dealership to waste my valuable time!"

The Manager decided I was too much for him and threw me off the lot!

I wouldn't worry about law suits and such things. Just vote with your pocket book and tell all your friends not to buy there either.

You might want to consider reporting the incident to the owner of the dealership.
