When I was negotiating with a Volvo dealer for XC40, I found that they are actually using selling price to calculate residual value for their payment(selling price * RV% to get their residual value). I am a little confused cuz what I learnt in this forum is that residual value = MSRP * RV%. Location 95129. They offer 7.5k down with 511 monthly for a 45k xc40. Any comments? Much appreciated!

Dealer is doing it wrong. It is always MSRP that is used to calculate the residual value.

You can politely point that out to them, or you can find another dealer.

Frankly, I'm surprised the software allows this to happen.

I'll guess there is a communication gap between you and the dealer.

Also - have noticed how much higher MFs are on XC40s vs. XC60s. This may be an obvious question, but since MF is primarily based on credit score (I thought), why would this be?

Pretty much. The lease programs haven't changed all that much since they were introduced, which tells me Volvo has no problems moving the inventory.

I wouldn't start a lease with $4600 out of pocket - in NY, just first payment, registration costs and taxes.

While I originally asked for the values on a 2019 XC40 T5 Momentum, it turns out that I would be better off just buying based on the significant miles the driver in our house will put on it (15,500 miles, M-F commuter alone). That said, I did want to share and thank kyfdx for the A-Plan notice! When I asked the dealer for A-Plan pricing, I got it plus another $1,000.00 off. MSRP $43,905.00, I paid $40,809.00 + TTL.
